There may appear complications, which follow appendectomy, from which the most frequently encountered is the conversion of the incision into an actual wound that can vary in intensity or complexity from one case to another. The easiest forms require only antibiotics, while the serious ones may drive to another surgery. Sometimes, the infection is so serious ,that it needs antibiotic treatment in order to back off, and only after that, surgery can be performed, to avoid over-infection in case of a new incision.

Almost as common as the previous one is the abscess, generated by the localization of infection in a specific place, close to the appendix. Pus must be extracted from the abscess by surgery or non-surgical methods.

Researchers couldn't determine whether there is a purpose for the appendix inside of the human body, so that long-term consequences for health generated by appendectomy don't usually appear, except for particular cases, such as Chron's disease.

General information regarding appendectomy:

- The appendix represents a structure attached to the large intestine having the form of a worm.

- In case of viral or bacterial infection of the appendix, appendicitis appears.

- Appendicitis may complicate and evolve into peritonitis or abscess.

- Appendicitis is frequently indicated by pain, fever, and increased sensitivity of the abdomen

- Diagnosis can be given in most of the cases by taking into consideration medical record and physical exams but also by means of leukocytes count, X-ray abdominal scan, barium enema, ultrasounds, CT and laparoscopy.

- Infection of the wound and abscess are the most common complications of surgery

- To cure appendicitis the use of antibiotics and appendix removal surgery are necessary.

- Appendicitis is difficult to diagnose because it shares common symptoms with other diseases that affect the abdomen or pelvis.

In the case of appendicitis, the visit to the family doctor is the best thing to do if symptoms have been seen. Because of the number of conditions that generate abdominal pain, he's the person that can give the most appropriate diagnosis. Quicker treatment will eliminate the risk of later complications. <bio>For more information visit http://www.whatcausesappendicitis.com </bio>

A precise diagnosis for appendicitis has a high degree of difficulty, due to the resemblance of appendicitis's symptoms to those indicating other inflammations. Thus, a frequent method is to keep under observation the patients with appendicitis suspicion for a temporal interval, to see their evolution. The problem may disappear, or develop to classic appendicitis or other disease.

It is the duty of the surgeon to eliminate the suspicion for any other condition similarly to appendicitis or that has similar symptoms. Such conditions are:

* - Meckel's diverticulitis represents little excrescences of the small intestine which are usually found in the lower right abdomen right next to the appendix. Same as the appendix, the diverticulum can rupture or inflame and it is necessary to take it out by surgical intervention.

* - Pelvic inflammatory disease. Found closely to the appendix, the ovary and the right fallopian tube may be affected by sexually transmitted affections of infectious nature, but in most of the cases medication using antibiotics can successfully replace surgery.

* - Right upper abdomen conditions of inflammatory nature. Diseases like duodenal ulcer, gallbladder disease or affections of the liver may generate fluids drain from upper to lower right abdomen and cause a very similar inflammation to that of the appendix.

* - Right =96 side diverticulitis. By exception from the common situation of the left sided diverticulitis of the colon, there can also appear on the right side and, when rupturing, have a strong similarity to appendicitis.

* - Affections of the right kidney such as abscess which, due to the close position of the kidney to the appendix may simulate appendicitis.

Because many conditions of the abdomen share the same symptoms, the causes are in more than one case difficult to determine, but the good thing is that only few abdominal affections are so serious to require more than medication at home. So, the nature of pain is more likely to be determined by severity, location or other aspects. <bio>For more information visit http://www.whatcausesappendicitis.com </bio>

The appendix is a strange organ because it does not serve any purpose. No one really knows what its function is. However, an inflammation of the appendix can cause death.

What is Appendicitis?

The appendix is located on the lower right side of the abdomen. It is a 3-1/2 inch finger-like organ that extends from the colon or the large intestine. Although there are arguments about the purpose of the organ, no one is absolutely certain of its function. People can live without this organ. Its removal does not cause any unfavorable consequences. Ironically, when the appendix becomes inflamed, reddened and filled with pus, this results to appendicitis which, if untreated, can cause death.

Anyone can actually develop this condition; although it is common among people aged 10 to 30. It rarely occurs in babies or toddlers. However, 1 out of 15 people will likely suffer this condition.

This often requires immediate medical attention. People suffering from this medical problem will have to undergo a surgical procedure to have the organ excised. In fact, there is no other alternative treatment but surgery. The appendix needs to be removed before it bursts or perforates. The perforation can lead to peritonitis which can cause death.

Causes of Appendicitis

This medical condition occurs when the appendix is blocked by foreign bodies or body wastes. Appendicitis can also be a complication of or symptom of cancer. An infection may also cause the inflammation because it often swells when there is an infection.

Symptoms of Appendicitis

Symptoms of this condition usually begin with a pain that starts around the navel. Over time, the pain gradually shifts to the lower right side of the abdomen. As the condition worsens, the pain increases as well. Over 6 to 12 hours, the pain can worsen from a localized vague pain to something that is completely debilitating.

Other classic symptoms of the condition includes loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal swelling, fever, inability to move your bowels, difficulty to pass gas, dull upper or lower abdominal pain, back pain, rectal pain, pain with urination, vomiting, severe abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

Not all of these symptoms manifest however. People actually experience varying symptoms. Some may experience a combination of these symptoms while others may only experience severe abdominal pain. Of course, there are some people who actually suffer all of these symptoms.

Treating the Condition

It is difficult to diagnose this condition. The symptoms are oftentimes vague and non-localized. They can also be similar to symptoms of other common illnesses like urinary tract infection, gastritis, gallbladder diseases and other medical problems.

To properly diagnose the condition, the person suffering from it may have to undergo an abdominal and rectal exam. They may have to undergo a urine test and blood test to rule out possible causes like urinary infection or other infections. The physician may also advise an ultrasound or CT scan.

When to Call Your Physician

If you are suffering from abdominal pain that is similar to the above mentioned symptoms, you need to seek prompt medical attention. Make sure that you do not eat or drink anything. Avoid taking pain killers, laxatives, antacids and do not use heating pads. The latter remedy may cause your appendix to burst.

Prompt medical attention when you are experiencing symptoms of appendicitis is vital to its treatment. You should immediately seek medical intervention or visit the nearest emergency room.<bio>Peter Garant is writing articles about <a href="http://www.appendicitissymptoms.org/">Appendicitis Symptoms and Appendicitis Pain for a site about Appendicitis.</bio>

If there is one body organ that does not really serve any purpose that would be the appendix. It's a big question why it exists. Despite the many theories surrounding the probable purpose the appendix serves, its purpose still remains a mystery.

Unfortunately, despite its apparent uselessness, appendicitis can cause your death. When you develop appendicitis, you will need to undergo an operation to have it removed. Curiously, however, once the appendix is removed, you will live just fine. In truth, this is not surprising considering that the organ does not seem to serve any purpose. So, how do you know if you are exhibiting symptoms of appendicitis?

The Primary Symptom -- Severe Abdominal Pain

First of all, appendicitis occurs when your appendix becomes suddenly swollen for no obvious reasons. It can happen to you regardless of your age or sex; although, it occurs more in people between the ages of 10 and 35.

The first thing that you will likely experience if you are suffering from appendicitis is abdominal pain. It is nowhere near the kind of pain you will suffer with indigestion or gas. People suffering from pain caused by appendicitis will likely rate their pain between 8 and 10 and even over 10. Indeed, this pain can be debilitating. People usually find relief by lying on their side and bending their knees upwards toward their chest. It's highly unlikely that you can relieve the pain by taking painkillers. Only surgery can effectively relieve and remove the pain.

The symptoms of appendicitis usually start with a localized vague abdominal pain. Usually, the pain would start somewhere near the belly button or the navel. Over 24 hours, this pain will eventually move to the lower right abdomen.

Other Symptoms of Appendicitis

The classic symptoms include nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting and fever. Not all people suffering from the disease, however, experience all these symptoms. In fact, there are people who suffer the debilitating pain without any other accompanying symptoms of appendicitis. Commonly, however, people suffer only a combination of symptoms.

The full-blown symptoms of appendicitis take time to develop. In fact, it may take up to 48 hours or 2 days for you to develop signs indicating appendicitis. During this time, you may experience varying degree of pain. You may lose your appetite and you may experience bouts of vomiting. There are people who have reported diarrhea or constipation while many also reported no change in their bowel movements or habits.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to diagnose appendicitis in its early stages since there are other stomach conditions that manifest similar symptoms. People suffering from gastroenteritis, for one, suffer from stomach and intestinal inflammation. They also suffer from severe abdominal pain. Because the symptoms are fairly similar, there are many people actually suffering from appendicitis who leave the hospital with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis. These cases are especially common in children and the elderly. Often, they have fewer symptoms of appendicitis, so it is far more difficult to diagnose them properly. Unfortunately, misdiagnosis often leads to severe complications.

The appendix does not serve any purpose, but appendicitis is not something you can ignore or trifle with. If you are showing symptoms of appendicitis, you should visit your physician immediately. There is no cure for the pain except surgery.<bio>Peter Garant is writing articles about Appendicitis Symptoms and Appendicitis Pain for a site about Appendicitis.</bio>

The child should be put to bed immediately at the first symptoms of severe pain, vomiting and fever. Rest is of utmost importance in the treatment of this disease. NO solid food should be given for one or two days. The child should be given plenty of water to drink. He may also be given fruit juices diluted with water. Low enemas of warm water may be adminstered in early stage to cleanse the bowels, if the child can tolerate it. An ice bag should be used again for 15 minutes, followed by hot application for three minutes. The alternate use of the ice bag and hot applications may be continued until the pain has subsided.

After the acute symptoms have subsided, the child may be placed on a diet of liquid foods and fresh juicy fruits such as oranges, lemon, pineapple, apple, grapes and papaya for further two or three days. Thereafter, he may be gradually allowed to embark upon a well-balanced diet according to his age. The emphasis should be on whole grain cereals, fresh fruits and raw vegetable salad.

Certain home remedies have been found beneficial in the treatment of appendicitis. Green gram has proved effective in the acute phase of the disease. A handful of this pulse should be soaked overnight in water. This water is used as a medicine for treating this condition. It may be given in small quantities of one teaspoon to the chld two or three times daily.

Regular use of tea made from fenugreek seeds has proved helpful in preventing the appendix from becoming a dumpting ground for excess mucus and intestinal waste. This tea is prepared by putting half a tablespoon of the seeds in 250 ml. of cold water and allowing it to simmer for half an hour over a low flame. It should be allowed to cool a bearable temperature and the strained. It can be given to the child once daily.

Certain vegetable juices, especially carrot juice, in combination with the juices of beet roots and cucumbers, have been found valuable in appendicits. In this combination, 50 ml. each of beet root and cucumber juices should be mixed with 150 ml. of carrot juice. It may be given to the child-patient twice daily. The use of buttermilk is beneficial in the treatment of chronic form of appendicitis. About 250 ml. of buttermilk may be used for this purpose.

The patient of appendicits should adopt all measures to eradicate constipation, if it is habitual. Much relief can be obtained by daily application of hot fomentation and heating compresses. Once the waste matter in the caecum has moved into the colon and thence eliminated, the irritation and inflammation in the appendix will subside and surgical removal of the appendix will not be necessary.

When all the measures have failed and infection is so severe that there are chances of perforation or formation of appendicular abcess then only surgical removal of appendix is necessary. <bio>Author's sites: http://www.easyhomeremedy.com , http://www.healtharticles-lk.com , http://www.home-remedies-for-heartburn.com </bio>

The first steps in order to determine whether a patient has appendicitis or not are the patient's medical history and a physical series of exams. The abdominal lower right portion has a great sensitivity when it is pressed and the patient may also have increased fever. If the pain gets worse in the moment of releasing pressure, it means that infection got to the peritoneum causing rebound sensitivity.

Leucocytes Count

The number of leucocytes inside human body increases in case of infection. This increase is produced in different degrees following the stages of inflammation. This is not a specific situation for appendicitis, also occurring in case of other diseases so that this method is not enough to give a diagnosis so that other tests are necessary in addition.

The analysis of urine

By means of the microscope, the composition of urine is analyzed to establish whether besides leucocytes and red blood cells there are also bacteria. But this procedure is not recommended in case of inflammation or affection of the kidneys or bladder, because it looses accuracy. Diseases of the urinary system can often be confused with appendicitis and it is also possible for urine to appear normal in case of appendicitis.

Abdominal X-Ray

For children, X-ray scan proved itself very effective in the identification of faeces that block the appendix, this method having sometimes the same good results in diagnosing appendicitis in adults.

Ultrasound

This procedure implies the identification of internal organs by means of sound waves, but the appendix is perceived only in half of the cases. The impossibility to perceive this structure doesn't necessarily exclude the possibility of inflammation. Ultrasound is more effective in women because of its capacity to identify ovarian or fallopian tubes problems that can be taken for appendicitis.

Barium Enema

This method uses an insertion of liquid barium through the anus to fill the large intestine. This test usually identifies modifications of colon's shape that might suggest an inflammation and also the presence of other affections such as Crohn's disease.

CT scan

Besides the cases of pregnancy CT scan is very effective in identifying a possible abscess and excluding the possibility of other conditions with similarly symptoms to those of appendicitis.

Laparoscopy

Through a small camera attached to a thin tube inserted in the abdominal region, a general view of the internal organs, including the appendix in obtained. This method is very useful because it also provides the possibility of immediate surgery but it requires general anaesthesia.

No test can tell for sure whether the patient has appendicitis or not, so, in case of suspicion, the patient has to be supervised by a doctor for a while, take one or more of the tests above or have a surgical intervention. <bio>For more information visit http://www.whatcausesappendicitis.com </bio>

One of the more celebrated situation comedies of all-time, All In The Family dominated the Nielsen ratings throughout much of the 1970s. Carroll O'Connor plays the title role of Archie Bunker, the politically-incorrect head of the Bunker household. Loud and opinionated, Archie liberally dispenses his often bigoted remarks and ignorant comments from a recliner in his Queens, New York living room. Living with Archie are his loving, yet airheaded wife Edith (Jean Stapelton), progressive daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers), and ultra-liberal son-in-law Mike (Rob Reiner) who Archie regularly calls "Meathead".
Statistics show that in case of the 70 000 uninsured children in the U.S. affected by appendicitis every year the situation can aggravate because of the delay of diagnosis and surgery; appendix rupture can be the consequence of that.

Dr. Kurt D. Newman, a paediatrician and surgeon at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. thinks that a new look should be taken in children evaluation regarding conditions generally and abdominal pain in particular. He considers absolutely necessary to take these children into the system and insure them proper care. These opinions were published in the Oct. 27 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association together with his and his team research results.

The tubular structure attached to the colon which has no particular role can inflame, what makes appendectomy necessary in most of the cases. The infection produced by its rupture extents inside the abdomen, and the toxic substance spreads, unless it is discovered and dealt with in time. This situation can even be lethal, and, in the easiest cases, as Dr. Newman says "Then you're dealing with five to 10 days of hospital care, with lots of expense and complications down the line".

One of the main purposes of the doctor and his team was research in the national centers of pediatry in order to determine whether all children with appendicitis were properly cured and attended. 24400 surgical interventions performed on kids at schooler age from 1997 to 2002 in 36 important U.S. children hospitals were studied. The result proved Newman to be right: the chances for appendicitis to be discovered and treated in time were a lot higher in case of white or privately insured children than in minorities or those who don't have medical insurance. Asian and black American kids were 66%, respectively 18% more exposed to appendix rupture than white children.

In absence of clear reasons for racial discrimination, the doctor invokes the differences of language and culture together with differences in health care coverage.

It is 36% more probable for uninsured children to suffer appendix bursts, and 48% in case of these insured by Medicaid, compared to children with private medical insurance. Doctor Newman also supposes that families that don't have private insurance often bring their children with appendicitis too late to the hospital, having a tendency to take appendicitis symptoms for routine stomach aches. Some unsophisticated clinics are, in Newman's opinion, in no condition to perform accurate tests and analysis, so that a proper diagnosis is impossible to give.

Even ignoring the motivation for this kind of situation, the doctor gives some criteria for the population to suspect appendicitis, and not to take a simple stomach problem for it: "If it's a tummy-ache that seems out of proportion to the usual, if it's persisting, if it's localized to the lower right side of the abdomen, or is associated with nausea and vomiting -- those are all real warning signs that the child should be evaluated". He also suggests that both doctors and the category of people predisposed (or which have predisposed children) to appendicitis need to receive more information and education regarding this problem. He even gives the possible solution of visits paid by specialists at the predisposed people's homes, to describe them the disease and its complications.

Health-care coverage remains another part of the solution, however. For many children, lack of insurance may be "impacting their ability to get either diagnosed, or to get the care they need," Newman said, and Child Welfare League of America, represented by their spokeswoman, Joyce Johnson, shared his point of view.

She underlines the necessity for all children, not only for the insured one, to receive proper medical care whenever they need it. The parents, according to her, should be aware of the fact that there are programs that can give them access to highly professional medical assistance. Same as Doctor Newman, she thinks education and a good information policy of the states to be decisive factors in the achievement of a solution. The programs exist, they can provide support, and the population must be aware of it. <bio>For more information visit http://www.whatcausesappendicitis.com </bio>

While most people are familiar with many of the pure breeds of horses, there are many interesting crossbreds. Each breed has its own benefits, and it is not unusual for people to try to get the best of both breeds by crossing them. The following are some common crossbreds and their usual characteristics.

Arabian Crosses

Most Arabian crosses are designed to refine the horse, without adding much height. Arabians are known for being highly sensitive and intelligent horses, who can be a bit flighty or silly at times. Most of the breeds they are crossed to tend to be solid citizens who could use a bit more pep. Many Arab crosses make excellent all-round horses who do well for children and for pleasure. Some make excellent dressage horses or hunters, combining the beautiful Arab movement with the solid personality of their crosses.

Some of the most common Arabian crosses include the Morab (Morgan x Arabian), the Quarab (Quarter Horse x Arabian) and the Arapaloosa (Appaloosa x Arabian). Another common Arabian cross is the Anglo Arabian (Thoroughbred x Arabian). Anglo Arabians are unlike the other crosses in that they are highly sensitive, have good height, and are excellent athletes. The cross has been so well established in France, that it became the foundation of their Selle Francais breed. Arabians also cross very well with some pony breeds such as Welsh Ponies.

Thoroughbred Crosses

Thoroughbreds are the most common horses to see crossbred into other breeds. Adding size and refinement, the Thoroughbred is an amazing athlete who generally produces crossbreds with excellent performance potential.

One of the most popular Thoroughbred crosses is the Appendix Quarter horse. Not only are half-breds accepted as Appendix Quarter Horses, a high percentages of Thoroughbred blood is permitted in the registry.

Smaller thoroughbreds are also crossed onto many pony breeds to produce pony-sized offspring with horse-type bodies. This type is highly popular in the hunter ring. Many successful ponies that near the highly desirable 14.2hh size are in fact part Thoroughbred.

Many breeders like to cross Thoroughbreds to draft horses. These crosses are lighter weight than drafts, and are well suited to riding. Many draft crosses become field hunters, but some of the more refined crosses become good performance horses.

Appaloosa Crosses

Appaloosas are hardy horses who are renowned for their unusual coloring. Some breeders like to cross other types of horses to Appaloosas to attempt to get the Appaloosa coloring on a horse while retaining the type of the breed they are crossing to. Arapaloosas are the Arabian x Appaloosa cross mentioned earlier, but other popular crosses include Pintos (Pintaloosa) and Tennessee Walkers (Walkaloosa).
A cross between a Shetland pony and an Appaloosa mare produced the colourful Pony of the Americas, now an established breed.

Gaited Horses

Some people enjoy crossing the highly popular gaited breeds, such as Tennessee Walkers, to other breeds. They try to retain the gait, but gain the size, substance or coloring of the other breed. Some gaited crosses include the National Show Horse (Arabian x Saddlebred) and the Tennuvian (Tennessee Walker x Peruvian Paso).

Other Crossbreds

No matter where you look, you will see other types of crossbred horses. Some are popular enough that breed registries have been formed for them. Others are still rare. While many breeders consider crossbreds to be no different than grade horses, others will defend their crossbred "breed", claiming that it has as much validity as other breeds. Either way, you can find a cross of almost anything if you look hard enough.<bio>Lydia K Kelly is a writer for HorseClicks, classifieds of horses for sale Saskatchewan, horses for sale Yukon and other provinces. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of death among cancers in the Western world.

Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

Therapy is usually through surgery, which in many cases is followed by chemotherapy.Colorectal cancer can take many years to develop and early detection of colorectal cancer greatly improves the chances of a cure.

Therefore, screening for the disease is recommended in individuals who are at increased risk. There are several different tests available for this purpose.Surgical treatment is by far the most likely to result in a cure of colon cancer if the tumor is localized.

Very early cancer that develops within a polyp can often be cured by removing the polyp at the time of colonoscopy. More advanced cancers typically require surgical removal of the section of colon containing the tumor leaving sufficient margins to reduce likelihood of re-growth.

If possible, the remaining parts of colon are anastomosed together to create a functioning colon. In cases when anastomosis is not possible, a stoma (artificial orifice) is created. While surgery is not usually offered if significant metastasis is present, surgical removal of isolated liver metastases is common. Improved chemotherapy has increased the number of patients who are offered surgical removal of isolated liver metastases.

Laparoscopic assist resection of the colon for tumour can reduce the size of painful incision and minimize the risk of infection.

As with any surgical procedure, colorectal surgery can in rare cases result in complications. These may include infection, abscess, fistula or bowel obstruction. <bio>Colorectal or colon cancer is the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer related deaths. http://coloncancersymptoms.info </bio>

Endometriosis is a medical abnormality, which is characterized mainly by the appearance of the endometrial tissues in other parts of the body. During normal condition, endometrium is found in the uterus. It develops as the egg cells mature in the ovaries so as to provide a conducive place for housing the fertilized eggs. If in cases this tissue develops outside the uterus, then that would be a good sign of an unusual and potentially questionable condition which in most cases affect the fertility of a woman.

Usually, endometriosis affects areas like the fallopian tube, ovaries, rectal-vaginal septum, uterosacral ligaments and the pelvic sidewall. However, other rare locations include laparotomy or laparoscopy scars, intestines, bowel, colon, rectum and appendix. And for the rarer cases, endometriosis may appear on areas like vagina, spine, lungs, brain and the bladder.

The main symptom of endometriosis is pain radiating at the pelvic area. Normally, this pain is associated with the menstrual cycle of the patient yet some cases record that this is not always the condition. Nonetheless, the pain of endometriosis seems to be debilitating that too few can resume normal work while suffering endometriosis.

Some common symptoms of endometriosis include:

§ Pain while, before and after menstruation § Pain during ovulation § Pain during urination § Pain felt in the bowel while undergoing menstruation § Lower back pain § Pain while and after sexual intercourse § Diarrhea § Irregular bleeding § Unexplainable fatigue § Abdominal bloating that is associated with menstruation

For the advanced stages of the condition, scars in specific reproductive organs will occur which may cause more than imaginable pain and discomfort. In fact, with the severe conditions the internal organs affected may become fused, a case we call as frozen pelvis.

Endometriosis is responsible for around 30 to 40% of all recorded cases of infertility. Obviously, this link is found on the correlation of abnormalities in certain areas that are required for ovulation which is only possible when all organs are functioning an in good condition.

Women affected by this condition are naturally advised to gather as much data on the nature of their disease to help the handling of the condition more possible. (However, they are recommended to be wary of misleading information since even in the medical literature, there still lingers some myths for which we lay our beliefs on.) Nevertheless, management of endometriosis is normally a lasting one. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy. It may be used only in its entirety with all links included.
It is well documented that stress has an impact on health and the ability to heal one's self when in a state of illness. How many stressed people do you know that also suffer from headaches and pains in their bodies, or reoccurring colds? My own personal story is that I used to work in a very stressful and pressured environment. I worked through my lunch breaks and at the weekend. If I got sick, I still went to work. I worked when I had tonsillitis and sickness bugs. I covered other people's shifts when they were off sick, but I was sick myself! Everyone kept telling me to take a break or else I'd get really ill. And I'd reply "Yeah I'd have to be half dead in order to stop me working!" So guess what happened? I got appendicitis! I had to have my appendix removed and was signed off work and unable to do practically anything for a month! It was as if my unconscious was telling me "If you really belief that you need to be half dead in order to stop, then that's exactly what you're going to get!"

When we are in a good state of mind it inevitably has a positive impact on our body. We know for example that laughing and exercise cause the body to release endorphins, which are not only the body's natural painkillers, but also alleviate stress, therefore impacting on the health and immunity of the body.

Yes laughter really is the best medicine! But your jokes do not have others rolling around on the floor laughing, then Hypnotherapy Hemel Hempstead could be a beneficial alternative.

We know already that there is a loop that is created between stress/ illness or stress/ pain. For example, when you are stressed you may start getting headaches. The headache then becomes a fuel for stress in itself. Causing the patient to anticipate the onset of a headache and stress further about any aches or pains they start to get in their head. Then they create more stress and anxiety once they have actually managed to get the headache because it prevent them from doing the work they should be doing, or it prevents them from doing work that they do not really want to be doing.

By throwing Hypnosis Hertfordshire into the equation, we stimulate the hypothalamus which is responsible for creating moods and emotions. This can be used to induce suggestions of feeling happiness, relaxation, carefree, and fun. In fact simply by vividly remembering times in the past when these emotions have been experienced can onset the emotion itself. The release of the endorphin chemical can also be directed to reduce any pain that the patient is experiencing in that moment to begin to alleviate it.

Thus the cycle is broken. The endorphins aid the relaxation and pain relief and the stress reduces. <bio>Gemma Bailey is a hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner based in South East England.
Stroke is one of the most serious nervous system diseases prevalent in old age. It is an important cause of disability and a major contributor to mortality in old age. Also known as apoplexy, stroke is a sudden acute disturbance of brain function of vascular origin. It may result in loss of consciousness, paralysis or death.

Good nursing care is of utmost importance, especially during the acute stage. The patient should be made to rest in bed, and he should be turned frequently from side to side to prevent development of pressure sores. Cold compresses may be applied to the head to relieve pain. The patient should be protected from visitors and all forms of excitement. He should not return to work for several months.

The most important factor in treating this disease is fasting. The patient should fast for the first few days and he should be given only water to drink, if he can take it. Thereafter, he may be given orange juice and water. The fast should be continued till the severity of the stroke has passed off. He can then be allowed to take fresh fruits such as orange, apple, pineapple, pear, grapes, peach and papaya. The diet can be extended to include fresh and unboiled milk, and as convalescence progresses, the fruit and milk diet can be gradually followed by a well-balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts and grains, fruits and vegetables. The emphasis should be on fresh fruits and raw vegetable salads and fruit and vegetable juices.

The patient should be encouraged to use the paralyzed limbs and move all the joints several times daily. The paralyzed muscles should be gently massaged. As soon as possible, the patient should come out of bed and walk around the room. When he is able to move about, he should take Epsom salt baths twice weekly. He should also take breathing and other exercises daily, together with the daily friction and sponge as explained in the appendix. Regular habits of living should be encouraged from then onwards. The consumption of alcoholic beverages and smoking, wherever habitual, should be completely given up.

The liberal use of fruits and vegetables has been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of stroke. Researches carried out more than a decade ago, indicated that consuming fruits and vegetables prevented strokes and reduced the damage if they occurred. British scientists at Cambridge University discovered that older persons who consumed large quantities of fresh green vegetables and fresh fruits were less likely to die of strokes. <bio>Author's sites: http://www.herbalremedieslk.com , http://myshabi.blogspot.com , http://myaroma.blogspot.com </bio>

Only those who suffer from constipation fully understand the term constipation relief. Why, it is all about getting free from that crappy, uncomfortable feeling you don't seem to understand where it's coming from. Worry and fret no more. Just try the following for constipation relief and you will achieve that feeling of freedom from discomfort and pain.

Constipation Relief Seldom Tried But Always Effective Methods

Fruits: Fruits contain fiber. Aside from this, they are usually juicy and so give your body a lot of fluids. For constipation relief, take more amounts than the usual serving. They are great for desserts or snacks so you have a lot of opportunities to have them. They are also laden with natural vitamins and minerals for overall health. And last but not least, they don't have side effects and are not fattening.

Oils: Supplement your diet with different kinds of oils that have been proven effective against constipation like coconut oil, sesame seed oil or flax seed oil. You can buy these from your grocery store or you can prepare them yourself. There are a lot of materials you can consult on the proper extraction of the oils. You can use these oils to cook, bake or as salad dressing. They are safe and natural, so nothing to worry about. So, if your bowels need some more movement and activity, oil them with these oils.

Massage: You can self-massage your abdominal area daily for constipation relief. You can do this either lying down or standing up. Use oil to lubricate the movement of your palms on the abdomen. To do this, just slide your palms on your abdomen, starting on the right side where your appendix is. Then, move in circular motion upward toward your ribcage.

When you have reached your ribcage, move towards the left part of the abdomen and go downward again toward your groin. While massaging, be alert for some pain. If you feel any pain, see if it is intense or tolerable. If it is tolerable, you just continue massaging gently and observe if it goes away after a few days. If it is something intense, discontinue the massage and visit your doctor.

If your baby or child suffers from occasional constipation, this is also an effective way to relieve his discomfort but do it as gently as possible. The added benefit of touch therapy also strengthens the bond between the two of you. Massage your abdomen on a daily basis, applying more pressure as you progress each day.

Exercise: This increases the muscular contractions in the intestines, facilitating the passage of stool. Exercise also relieves stress, which is one cause of constipation. Walking is the simplest way to exercise for constipation. Generally, increase your physical activity and limit your time sitting down.

These simple steps to achieve constipation relief can help a lot in improving one's condition, not to mention his mood. Of course, don't forget to maintain a healthy diet with lots of fiber and fluids to avoid constipation altogether.<bio>If you are looking for instant constipation relief on demand look no further. Your wait is over because the Poop Doc has come to the rescue.</bio>

What is a Scrapbook?

For those of you who have been living under a rock for the last few centuries and don't know what a scrapbook is, this is it: Basically, it's just a book full of stuff. What stuff? Anything you can think of. To most people, it's a hobby of making collages full of writings, pictures, drawings or even ticket stubs, airplane tickets and museum passes. Don't be too quick to dismiss the idea of scrapbooking as childish or unimportant.

Scrapbooking, on the surface, is a simple creative outlet. But, on a deeper level, it's a way of recording our histories or notable events in our lives. Scrapbooks are a great way to express yourself or show others who you are and where you've been. Today scrapbooking is a multi-billion-dollar industry. There are scrapbooking clubs, blogs, etc. and it doesn't appear to be going anywhere in the near future.

When did Scrapbooking Start?

A "scrap" used to be how you refer to a picture that is unmounted. People kept entire books full of unmounted pictures and those were, literally, the first scrapbooks. Scrapbooking is not a phenomenon that came about recently. Though not in their current form, the idea of scrapbooking has been around for centuries. The first scrapbooks were in use as far back as 1598.

Scrapbooks gained prominence during the Renaissance. These precursors of the modern day scrapbook were called 'commonplace books'. Hamlet writes in one saying: "Smile and smile and be a villain." John Locke, the philosopher, highlighted them in his manual titled: "The New Method of Making Common-place Books." In 1769 came the Granger books, books used by William Granger. Granger used this form to publish a history of England with extra illustration of the text in the appendix. Granger books were also called extra-illustrated books.

A major interest in scrapbooking came about in 1826, with the publication of "Manuscript Gleanings and Literary Scrapbook" by John Poole. The term 'scrapbook' was, however, coined a few years prior and had until then existed under various names. During the late 1800s, Mark Twain also popularized the usage of scrapbooks by patenting a series of them in 1872.

Photography and Scrapbooking

The invention of photography took the concept of the scrapbook to another level and changed the way it was done completely. Now, it became possible to also capture scenes of the events being described in the text as well.

In the 20th century, the popularity of the scrapbook declined. This was because, during the time of the first Word War, recession caused businesses, even the business of recording happy times, to close down. Another reason was that around 1940, the mass production of photo albums started and people ignored the scrapbook as the preferred method of recording events in their lives. The resurgence in scrapbooking started with Alex Haley's "Roots".

Ever since, there has been renewed interest in scrapbooking and, today, it has acquired a newer shade with the introduction of digital technology. <bio>Get scrapbooking vellum at http://www.gluearts.com/vellum.html </bio>

Apparently one in ten British people have committed travel insurance fraud. Sure, most will have made exaggerations, rather than having claimed to have been robbed of their million pound winning lottery ticket, but its still a substantial amount of lies. Worse, the subsequent increased premiums hit the pockets of the honest undeserving folks who use their UK travel insurance in legitimate ways.

It's not all bad though, and it makes it all the more rewarding when those cheap travel insurance scammers are exposed -- especially in the manner in which some of these holiday makers' shame was made public:

It's best to be Original...

It's perhaps best that those without a creative bone in their body don't make up some weird and wonderful UK travel insurance claims, because all too often they'll run out of innovation and tell the same story twice. Well, twice would be understandable, but what about the man who claimed costs for having his appendix removed no less than eight times while on holiday in Cyprus? On the other hand some people are incredibly creative, but make a simple error -- like the woman who claimed for the loss of the same eye five times, with different explanations each time. These unique stories included losing it during an attack, and while jumping into a swimming pool!

That's not included in the Cover

Another man had a heart attack while in West Africa. Part of his claim for costs included the receipt from a brothel, which turned out to be the backdrop to his cardiac development. It emerges that the man felt he did not get full value from the experience, so thought his UK travel insurance company should foot the bill for the visit!

Don't blame the Apes!

In another instance of holiday makers being imaginative with their travel insurance claims, a couple told their insurers that apes had stolen their expensive video cameras while they shot footage of them in Gibraltar. The truth turned out to be far less exciting -- they'd just been dropped and broken.

Of course, it's not just the world of cheap travel insurance that gets scammed -- here's some of the best from other industries...

Hell hath no fury...

Having just successfully claimed £385,000 worth of compensation, a man was reported by his wife for exaggerating the injuries he had suffered in a car crash. He'd been pretending to be crippled for three years, so why did the wife turn him in only when he got the payout? He'd just announced his plans to leave her!

Bang to Rights

But my personal favourite is the man who had been claiming compensation for being unable to work following an accident. A quite reasonable claim, until his amateur football team proclaimed him their player of the year, and his photograph appeared in the local newspaper. Unsurprisingly, his insurance company were more than happy to hear of this interesting revelation...

While hundreds of people commit travel insurance fraud every year, if you're tempted, just remember this: You're only hurting yourself! The huge numbers of people committing travel insurance fraud are directly responsible for the higher premiums everyone pays!<bio>Patrick Chong is the Managing Director of Journey's Travel.
Detoxing or body detoxification is a strenuous effort and the symptoms associated with eliminating toxins from body are similar to withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking, alcohol or drug withdrawal. It is however necessary to detoxify our body for the sake of fitness and health.

At times diseases attack out body and we feel stressful. Pains at body, constipation, diarrhea, drowsiness and unexplainable weight gain can be signs of accumulating toxins in the body.

Toxins found in body are stored in fat cells. The extent of toxins within our body is so severe and so common. But in normal cases, we don't identify the presence of toxins in our body. Because we are so accustomed to the system of living with toxins =96 tons of them.

Pay attention to the elimination organs that eliminate the toxic waste from our body. Such organs have an important role to play in detoxing body. Detoxing in turn is essential for healthy well being of everyone.

Liver Liver recycles the chemicals in our body and eliminates unwanted components. It quarantines the toxic materials and sends it for elimination. Toxic materials will be stored in our body for quite a while before eliminated from our body.

Lymph Glands Lymph glands clean our body by removing toxins. The main lymph glands are located in the appendix, thymus, tonsil and spleen. The lymphatic glands help in isolating and eliminating toxins from our body.

Kidneys Kidneys keep the blood free of waste materials and play an important role in water management of the body. Kidneys are responsible for maintaining the composition of the blood. Drinking plenty of water daily helps kidney work smarter and helps flushing out more waste matter from the blood.

Lungs Lungs supply fresh oxygen to blood and remove waste gas from the blood. Blood carries carbon dioxide or other gases to the lungs, from where it is sent out into the air. Breathing fresh air and practicing deep breathing exercises help in getting more fresh air to the blood. Practice deep breathing early morning and at areas that are less urbanized.

Colon Colon is the area of the body that deals with solid waste management. It is found that the colon can (unhealthily) hold mucus and solid waste materials in its walls. Detoxing colon ensures lesser instances of constipation and greater general health condition.

It is normal to experience serious detoxing symptoms. Regular walking exercise can reduce some of the symptoms. To make detoxing faster, you can try drinking limejuice or grapes juice. This will help with quicker detoxification and faster health gain. <bio>George Knight is a health-lover and the owner of several information sites, including 101 Health Matters (http://101healthmatters.com) and also a sister site at 101 Relationship Matters (http://101relationshipmatters.com) </bio>

Business planning is one of the most important steps towards building a successful startup business, and you can use some specific strategies to create a comprehensive outline. An effective business plan will help you determine your goals and help you organize all of your small business ideas with ease. If you've ever been stuck with too many ideas and not knowing where to start, business planning will help take the pressure off. Understanding the business planning process is important for creating something that works, and something that will help you reach your goals. Launching your small business startup is much easier with a clear, step-by-step outline; here's what you need to know:

Step 1: Organize your table of contents. This will help you outline each area of your business to include your mission statement, products and services, number of employees, and any basic market research information.

Step 2: Collect attachments and appendix materials. These are especially important if your business plan will be reviewed by potential investors or business partners, and can also help with your online business planning strategy.

Step 3: Create a list of key topics and sections. Not only will this create a cohesive document, but you'll also be able to jumpstart your business planning process with a clear `map' or guide of all your strategies. This list is especially helpful if you're not sure where to begin, since you can just put each item down on paper and organize it accordingly.

Step 4: Assign projects and tasks for each area. This is an effective business planning strategy as it helps you break down each goal into actions steps. Assigning tasks and objectives in this way makes it much easier to stay on track during each step.

Step 5: Check for grammar, spelling, and even factual errors. Making sure your plan and notes are clear of mistakes is especially important if you'll be presenting it to others. Doing a quick check will also help you determine if you missed any pieces of critical information and help you fine tune the final draft.

Step 6: Write up an executive summary for your small business startup. This is an important step for all business owners, and can help you pull together the entire plan in a few short pages. Many business owners turn to this summary when they need a briefing on objectives during the course of business, and you can include basic points and topics as if you were presenting it to a board or audience.

Step 7: Get an outsider's perspective. While you need to keep your business planning strategy and ideas as confidential as possible, sharing your plan with a trustworthy person can help you catch a few key elements of your project. Get an objective view of your plan and notes so you have everything in well-organized and presented in a logical way.

Business planning doesn't have to be difficult, but many startup business owners are intimidated by the process. Take the time to organize the critical areas of your business and put them in a logical order. Then, break them down into specific objectives and tasks so you have a strong idea of how you can be successful in each area. The time and effort you put into business planning will pay off for the long run, and help you launch your small business startup with success. <bio>Clinton Douglas IV, teaches people about internet home business.
Understandably, there is a lot of concern among patients and physicians alike as they try to determine the mystery surrounding an irritable bowel syndrome ovarian cyst link. It is already a known fact that women are three times more likely to be effected by irritable bowel syndrome than men, but it would not be safe to say that the syndrome is the cause of development of ovarian cysts.

Irritable bowel syndrome is not a disease and has not been proven to lead to other diseases or physical conditions. However, some existing factors may connect both. Knowledge of these can put people a step forward in identifying the real cause and symptoms of the syndrome.

The colon, which is essentially the large intestine is around six feet in length and links the small intestine with the rectum and anus. It plays an important role in transiting waste from the stomach toward successful evacuation.

It primarily absorbs or adds water from digested matter after it is expelled from the stomach. The muscles will then contract to transport the matter through the intestines. Hormones and nerve impulses trigger the muscular contractions.

Continue reading to sign up for our free newsletter and discover natural methods to relieve IBS that really work.

However, irritable bowel syndrome patients have hypersensitive colons, which may stem from the disorder itself, or from trigger foods that aggravate the symptoms. This hypersensitivity causes the intestinal muscles to contract intensely and frequently which leads to abdominal cramping and diarrhea. A common irritable bowel syndrome symptom, abdominal bloating causes the bowel to swell and distend which can be very painful for the patient's hypersensitive nerve endings located near the area.

The connection between irritable bowel syndrome and ovarian cyst development can be well explained by alterations in colon function. Since ovarian cysts form from changes in the process of egg production by the ovaries, it is considered a functional disorder just like the intestinal syndrome. The problem does not lie in any structural abnormality.

One potential link between ovarian cysts and irritable bowel is as follows. During irritable bowel syndrome, there is colon dysfunction so the intense contractions in the long term may eventually lead to tissue stretching in the intestines which can affect the ovaries.

If the stretching continues over a long period of time, scarring can result not only in the intestinal walls but also to the nearby organs that the distension comes into contact with like the kidneys, the ovaries and the appendix. This scaring of cells may form ovarian cysts and even other types of tissue anomalies.

The irritable bowel syndrome ovarian cyst link is debatable, even though the exact cause of IBS is unknown. Evidence does show that the development of the cyst and the dysfunction in ovary production of egg cells may have been impacted by the symptoms of the intestinal condition. Both conditions are chronic in nature and it is highly recommended that any symptoms should lead you to discussing the problems with your doctor. <bio>Sign up for Susan Reynolds' free IBS newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about irritable bowel syndrome ovarian cyst at http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/?source=is </bio>

In the realm of disorders that affect the digestive tract there is often some confusion over diagnosing specific conditions. Many of these disorders tend to overlap in terms of symptoms and signs. Since it is often difficult to distinguish one form of irritable bowel disease (IBD) from another, diagnosis is often a time-consuming procedure wrought with the painstaking approach of trial-and-error.

Two forms of IBD that are frequently confused are Crohn's Disease and colitis. Each of these diseases is strikingly similar in symptomology. Each condition can result in severe diarrhea, extensive episodes of abdominal cramping, loss of energy, fever, reduced appetite, and weight loss. Each of these diseases is caused by tissue inflammation. According to current data up to two million people in the United States have either Crohn's Disease or colitis.

Crohn's Disease usually affects the small intestine, however, it can manifest in other places throughout the body including the esophagus, stomach, appendix, anus, duodenum, and large intestine, colitis, on the other hand, strictly affects the colon.

Sufferers of both Crohn's Disease and colitis experience periods where the respective diseases fade into remission. Each, however, is marked by the tendency to experience sudden flare-ups which can drastically reduce quality of life. While the physical symptoms are similar, the psychological effects from the diseases also mimic one another. Many sufferers fall into depression and withdraw from social situations due to the fear of sudden flare-ups. Surprisingly, one of the most commonly prescribed medications for Crohn's and colitis is antidepressants.

Treatment, disregarding the emotional impact of these forms of IBD, is also similar. Drugs are generally the first option. The classes of these drugs include antibiotics, immune suppressants, biologic therapy, immunomodulators, and corticosteroids.

Drugs will not cure either disease. Colitis can be cured, but surgery to remove the colon is required. Since Crohn's can affect a wider region of the body, surgery can alleviate some of the more severe symptoms, but this does not mean that the disease cannot spring up in other places, thus it remains incurable.

Experts on IBDs recommend similar methods of approaching the maintenance of each disease on a daily basis. Exercise, reducing stress levels, maintaining a healthy diet and avoiding certain foods, taking various vitamins and supplements, and keeping a food diary can all be excellent ways of keeping the diseases in check. With either condition it is important to schedule regular medical check ups to ensure serious damage to the digestive tract is avoided. <bio>Sharon Dobson has an interest in Health related topics.
