The scenery is primitive and has understandably, been the setting for films such as the Tarzan films.

Apalachicola Barrier Islands

Apalachicola, an old town south west of the forest, is the state's oyster capital. The three marvellous Barrier Islands are across the bay.

One of these is St George Island - a 28 mile barrier island. It is still the least inhabited and is unspoilt, even though you can get there by road. Its miles of white sand beaches are uncrowded, great for swimming and catching a variety of fish. You can see many gracious wildlife like turtles.

Take a break from the beautiful seashore and visit one of the many restaurants serving fresh local seafood such as oysters of course.

Or go shopping on the Island for clothing, beach stuff, gifts and art.

Another of the Barrier Islands is Little St George Island. Perfect for those who like a measure of isolation. The island is about 75 miles from Tallahassee and is reached by bridge and causeway from US 98.

You can camp for free, but bring your own facilities. There is of course, the white sand beaches, bird watching (ospreys and eagles), wildlife (yes, and racoons) and last but definitely not least - fantaastic fishing.

The third of the Barrier Islands is the St Vincent Island. You can only get there by boat.

But is has many fresh water lakes and salt water swamps. It is a birdwatchers paradise. <bio>Tim Burton writes travel articles for the popular Orlando Villas Florida by Owner website at http://www.milkriver.co.uk and Worldwide Villas by Owner website at http://www.worldwidevillas.net Article may be reprinted but must include the all the author's bio </bio>

There are several reasons one might consider learning more about the Forest VA Real Estate Market and why a Real Estate Buyer or Real Estate Seller could benefit a great deal. Forest VA is a city that is very rich in United States History and Style and is one of the older cities in the state. This city is the rural outskirts of Lynchburg, which is loaded with city attractions and amenities. When you decide to make your move out here, you will find very quiet living with a rustic flair. There are many pretty, colonial style houses in this area and it's quiet so you won't have to worry about being bothered all the time. This city is close to Lynchburg, Madison Heights and Washington DC so there's plenty of things for your family to do on weekends or holidays.

The biggest region in Forest, VA. is Ivy Hill. Ivy Hill is built around the Ivy Hill Golf Course and displays Forest VA Homes carved and spread out in and around the circumjacent timberland. Property in this region run in the $400,000 - $500,000 range and provide spectacular views of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains and a myriad of other simple ideas to occupy your time.

If you prefer houses that are a little less prodigious, the Forest, VA. Real Estate Market has a dwelling for you as well. There are a myriad of Forest Virginia Homes available in the $100,000 - $200,000 price range that are still very attractive and breathtaking. When you are belaboring purchasing houses in the Forest region, you have to keep in mind the cost of living in the region and its close distance to Washington, DC. As a reminder, you may pay a little more here for a dwelling than you would for a home that is located some place in the Midwest, for illustration purposes. But be assured, you do acquire what you pay for in Forest.

Although many of the surrounding cities of Forest, VA boast lots of city attractions, Forest itself is guilty of sporting some of their own. This city is the home to Poplar Forest, which was Thomas Jefferson's summer home. In fact this home is now on display and anyone can visit it during certain hours. His home is still to this day studied by Archaeologists. Also in this area is the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, which isn't too far. You can also visit the Peaks Of Otter located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Point Of Honor in Lynchburg. If this isn't enough, there are 4 schools in Forest and just recently 2 new shopping centers have been built, which in and of itself is a testimony to this area.

As far as Forest Virginia Real Estate statistics are concerned, Forest was home to approximately 8,000 people in a 2000 census and the median income for a family in Forest was $67,000, which is much larger than the national average. The preponderance of the people in this region are in the 25-44 age price range and 62.9% of the houses in this area are comprised of married couples with families. What you will encounter in Forest Lynchburg is a gentle, rural, established, family-oriented region of hard-working folks who are more than willing to promptly socialize and greet you into the region and into their hearts.

All in all, if you are looking for a nice place to settle down and raise a family, consider the Forest, VA. Real Estate Market. It's a great place to do business for a Real Property Buyer or a Real Property Seller. Forest is already home to many young and middle-aged families who are just doing their best to live the American dream and raise the next generation of Virginians, so there's no reason why you cant make this beautiful city your next home as well.<bio>Allow Virginia Real Estate Guru Jeffrey D. West teach you more with relation to Forest VA Real Estate right now.
A Kenyan Safari to the Mount Kenya National Park and Reserve should be on your list of options when planning a safari if only because of its height, being the second highest mountain in Africa. Mount Kenya is 17,058 feet high and the National Park and Reserve has 1300 square kilometres of forest reserve with 715 square kilometres above the 10,500 ft tree line, where the entire mountain is National Park

This height means that what you are going to see a huge variety of spectacular scenery which makes the Park very special. There are lakes, tarns, glaciers, peaks, natural mineral springs, and the vegetation changes quite dramatically with the height from sea level. Add to this high altitude adapted plains game, and unique alpine vegetation with eleven species of endemic plants. The surroundings in the Mount Kenya Safari Park are truly breathtaking

You will find dry upland forest in the lower slopes, then after about 7000 ft this changes to montane forest of cedar and podo which then changes to thick bamboo at a little over 8000 ft, and then these die out as you climb higher, and you find smaller trees and high altitude mosses. After 10000ft you come onto high altitude heath and shrubs , and then finally above 11000 feet there is open moorland.

A Kenya safari is mostly about wildlife, and Mount Kenya national park has its fair share, again changing with altitude, and the season of the year. During the rains it is the dispersal area for Meru National Park especially elephant and buffalo. In fact electrified fencing has been put up near populated areas to keep the elephants off farmland.

The wildlife in the forest below the Park Boundary includes the aforementioned elephant and buffalo. To which can be added lion, several different species of antelope including the very rare bongo. If you are incredibly lucky you might see up to eleven species unique to this area above 2500 metres. There are the black leopard, black and white Colobus and Sykes monkeys, bushbuck, buffalo, elephant. Then lower down Olive baboon, waterbuck, black rhino, black fronted duikers, leopard, giant forest hog, genet cat, bushpig and hyena.. The very privileged few might even see albino zebra. Above the treeline you'll find high altitude zebra and eland.

The accommodation in the Mount Kenya National Park consists of one lodge, seven climber huts, and three self help banda sites , and three lodges and a self help banda site just outside the park.

To summarise the attractions of the Mount Kenya National Park and reserve.

There is excellent game viewing, fantastic scenery, with the lakes, tarns, glaciers, and high peaks. A number of rare birds and animals, and the high altitude plains game and the mountain forest. Added to this the natural mineral springs, and for a few intrepid souls mountain climbing itself, but this is not for the hill walker but more the skilled mountaineer.

If you are planning a memorable Kenyan Safari then a trip to the Mount Kenya National Park and Reserve promises to be a wonderful experience.

For more information on In Kenya safaris go to http://www.in-kenyasafari.com/pages/Site-Map.html <bio>Peter Stewart writes exclusively for http://www.in-kenyasafari.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and has visited personally many of the places he reports on, and has done extensive research on the others </bio>

A Kenya Safari Holiday must include a visit to the Aberdare National Park, not only because a visit to Treetops possiblt the most famous safari lodge is Kenya is here, but also because of the amazing scenery, and the variety of wildlife that can be found.

Aberdare National Park is a great Kenya Safari destination for both these reasons.

The Park varies from around 7000 feet to 14000 feet so there is everything from moorland to rainforests, bamboo forests to mountain peaks, all broken up by deep river valleys with streams rivers and beautiful waterfalls.

This in turn means a large range of wildlife to view on your safari holiday and Aberdare National Park of course has te best known safari lodge in the world which is Treetops. At Treetops and the Ark, both of which are treehouse hotels, where the walkways and rooms are up in the sky in the forest canopy. They are marvellously situated beside waterholes and natural salt licks, there is all day and all night game viewing without leaving the hotel, thanks to the floodlighting. There is even a bell system in the room to waken guests if a good sighting arrives in the hours of darkness!! There is even an underground viewing hide so close to the waterhole, that you could almost reach out and touch.

The great spread of height in the Park means different species in different environments, and up high the moorland is very reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, butat 10,000 feet the bamboo thickets hide the bongo a rare and elusive forest antelope.

If you have come to see the big five, then elephants dominate the waterholes, and lions hve to give way. Leopards can be sighted there but mostly a night.

The Park also contains large numbers of black rhino.

Aberdare National Park is not a malaria area because of the height, butrecautions must continue to be taken, because you will be coming from or going to spots where Malaria is a real danger.

In summary no Kenya Safari holiday would be complete without visiting Aberdare. <bio>Peter Stewart writes exclusively for http://www.in-kenyasafari.com as well as http://www.worldwidevacationspots.com and he has in depth knowledge of the places he writes about. </bio>

The beauty of Colorado is quite inviting to nature lovers everywhere and the miles and miles of scenic trails winding through the state make Colorado even more appealing. There are thousands of miles of trails in Colorado, ranging from easy to quite challenging and strenuous. Some trails are designated for hiking and bicycling, while some are used for all terrain vehicles and off-roading. There are also hundreds of miles of bridle trails winding through the gorgeous landscapes of Colorado.

There are 54 national recreation areas in Colorado that offer several miles of trails for horseback riding, including 6 national parks, as well as 20 Colorado state parks with equestrian trails. Three US Forest Service campgrounds provide horse camping sites and 2 of Colorado's state parks offer campgrounds with nearby horse corrals. There are also horses for rent at several of the recreation areas and state parks.

San Isabel National Forest in central Colorado has four designated trails for horseback riding and 2 campgrounds that offer horse sites. Alvarado Reservation Campground has 3 horse camping sites that allow 8 people each. Toilets and drinking water from a hand pump are provided and the campground is near the breathtaking and challenging Sangre de Cristo wilderness trails. Don't forget to carry a Coleman emergency poncho in case you're caught in one of the common afternoon thunderstorms.

The Purgatoire Reservation Campground also accommodates 8 campers with horses and provides a selection of 8 horse camping sites. Jacks Gulch campground in northern Colorado just west of Fort Collins offers 5 horse camping sites with corrals and several nearby trails for riding. Visitors to Jacks Gulch can also enjoy bicycling, hiking, fishing, riding ATVs, and observing a variety of wildlife, especially an abundance of birds.

Vega State Park in central Collbran, Colorado has convenient parking for horse trailers with access to hundreds of miles of trails for horseback riding in the Grand Mesa National Forest. Horse camping is not available in this Colorado state park, but corrals are located next to the rustic cabins and not far from the family campgrounds. Corrals can be reserved ahead of time.

One of the four developed campgrounds in Colorado State Forest State Park, Brockman Campground, has recently added corral facilities for horse camping. State Forest State Park offers over 50 miles of trails and roadways that can be used for horseback riding, as well as hiking, bicycling, boating, and fishing opportunities. This park also has cabin and yurt rentals year round.

If you're interested in camping and horseback riding in Colorado but don't own a horse, both Cherry Creek State Park and Chatfield State Park have stables conveniently located within the facilities that offer guided tours and horse rentals. Just south of Denver, Cherry Creek State Park is quite popular year round because of its extensive and scenic trails and wide array of amenities, including a marina and a model airplane field.

If you are horse camping in Colorado, it is important to remember that all the horse feed used on state or national grounds must be certified as weed free. This includes hay and pellets. Check with the campground or park you plan to camp at ahead of time for other regulations regarding your horse. Some corrals do not have water so it may be necessary to bring buckets or a hose. <bio>For more tips and information about Camping Gear, check out http: http://www.summitcampinggear.com. </bio>

Enjoy a slow and relaxing drive through the park, experiencing gorgeous views from the many picturesque overlooks along the way. There are plenty of opportunities to see wild animals and to enjoy the fragrant and beautiful flora that decorates the mountainsides.

Skyline Drive offers bed and breakfast inns and other nearby lodging, as well as numerous camping opportunities, including backcountry camping in the Shenandoah National Forest and family campgrounds along Skyline Drive. Whether you're filling up the Coleman chest cooler for an afternoon picnic at one of the picnic areas along Skyline Drive or planning a backpacking trip through the more than 500 miles of hiking trails through the Shenandoah National Forest, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy along the way, not to mention the beautiful vistas and many nearby attractions. This guide to Skyline Drive will help you plan your visit to this popular scenic roadway.

Skyline Drive's northern end is in Front Royal, VA, off US 340 and just 500 feet above sea level. Both automobiles and bicyclists share the curvy mountain drive, so it is important to obey the 35 mph speed limit along the parkway. Backcountry camping is allowed throughout the Shenandoah National Forest and a free camping permit can be obtained by mail in advance or at a ranger station after you arrive. A small entrance fee is charged for entrance to Skyline Drive and the pass is good for seven days.

Shortly after entering Skyline Drive from the northern end, you will come to the Dickey Ridge visitor center and picnic area at MP 4.6. The visitor center offers a variety of information as well as exhibits of the surrounding area. The first campground on Skyline Drive, Mathews Arm, is located at MP 22.1. Campers can enjoy hiking to Shenandoah National Forest's tallest waterfall or stroll through a relaxing nature trail near the campground. Nearby, at MP 24.1 is Elkwallow Wayside for groceries and camping supplies and the Elkwallow picnic area. The Wayside also features a grill serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to carry out to the picnic area or outdoor patio.

At MP 31.5, you can exit Skyline Drive via Rt. 211 to visit beautiful Luray, VA in the peaceful Shenandoah valley. Luray is home to the amazing Luray Caverns where you can take a guided tour of the magnificent cave formations, including the famous singing rocks. Luray also offers a variety of bed and breakfast lodges, as well as secluded cabin rentals. Just ahead, at MP 32, you will pass through Mary's Rock Tunnel, the only tunnel on Skyline Drive. There is an overlook shortly after the tunnel that offers great picture opportunities of the structure.

The Pinnacles picnic area is located at MP 36.7 on Skyline Drive and offers a peaceful, picturesque spot to enjoy a picnic lunch or cook on one of the available charcoal grills. Restrooms are available here as well. <bio>For more tips and infomation about Camping Gear, check out http: http://www.summitcampinggear.com </bio>

Two of the National Parks of the East which supposedly receive the most number of visitors every year are "The Sunderbans National Park" and "The Kaziranga National Park". Home to scads of endangered and rare species, these National Parks provide an experience of a life time to nature lovers, who come down in scores to visit these places.

Sunderbans is the world's largest delta and mangrove forest, which is the chief reason why tourists come flocking in to this place. The region boasts of a 2,585 sq km wildlife sanctuary-the largest estuarine wildlife sanctuary in the world. Though the place is inhabited by abundant wild animals like Macaques, Wild Boar, Fox, Common Grey Mongoose, Pangolin, Chital and several others, the star attractions of the Sunderbans are the Royal Bengal Tigers, who are on their verge of extinction.

Not only does this forest boast of it's wildness, it equally houses some of the best Hotels, which provide excellent accommodation facilities to the guests visiting these forests every year. There are a huge number of Hotels in Sunderbans tailored to suit the budget specifications of the tourists. Some of the famous Hotels include, "Sundar Chital Tourist Lodge", "Sunderban Tiger Camp" and "Vivada Cruises". Each of these Hotels is very well maintained with fully air conditioned rooms and attached bathrooms. With spacious and well furnished rooms, excellent dining facilities, state of art business facilities and much more, these Hotels successfully lure tourists to visit this place in jillions.

For all those who need a thorough experience of this place, these Hotels also organize numerous sightseeing tours headed by a proficient guide, to provide their guests with the entertainment and recreation which they crave for in this wilderness. This is also an excellent time for the wildlife photographers to have a pick on these wild rangers.

Another must visit National Park in the East is the "Kaziranga National Park" located in Assam. This world heritage site, as declared by UNESCO, is especially popular for housing two-thirds of the world's Great One-Horned Rhinoceroses, which can reach a height of over two meters and weigh more than two tones. It also provides a natural habitat to several species of mammals, birds and reptiles including Water Buffalo, Small Indian Civets, White Bellied Heron, Badgersblyth's Kingfisher, Dalmatian and a lot many more species. Though the Park remains open from November to April, March-April is considered to be the best time for animal sight seeing. The Park is usually closed during the monsoons i.e. from April end to mid October.

The Kaziranga Park has a fairly wide range of accommodations available for it's guests including rest houses, dormitories and lodges, which are especially maintained by the forest department and ITDC for it's esteemed visitors. Some of the Hotels where one can comfortably find accommodation are "Bonani Lodge", "Kunjaban Lodge", "Bonoshree Lodge" and "Shangrila River Cruise". These Lodges also cater the tourists with exciting tours which last around one hour on trained elephants that are available as mounts for sight seeing the Rhinos at close range.

Apart from these National Parks, there are a few other National Parks in this region like, Keibul National Park and Manas National Park, which the tourists can visit.

The east is definitely one of the most sought after places for nature lovers across the globe. <bio>For more information visit our website http://www.mumbai-hotels.org </bio>

*MOYLE*

A man by the name of Rex Moyle created the Moyle breed of horses in Idaho during the middle of the 20th century. He used mustangs that had been brought into Idaho from Utah. Moyle horses are light riding horses that are normally bay or brown and they have front horns. The breed is rare.

*MURGESE*

A light riding horse and draft horse that is similar to the Friesian, the Murgese is found in Italy. The breed is rare. Most often in black, the Murgese is also ocassionally gray. They are descendants of Oriental horses that were crossed with local horses. There is a Murgese herdbook established in 1926.

*MUSTANG*

Sometimes referred to as the American Feral Horse, the Mustang breed is found wild in the western United States. Mustang is from a Spanish word, "mesteno" which means "wild" or "Stray". Mustangs were originally Spanish horses, but over the years and due to their roaming qualities, they have now become a mix of several breeds. European settlers brought their own horses into the west; Indian raids and freed wild stallions tore down domestic fences and joined the tamed horses; and Indians captured horses between tribes and bartered which contributed to the distribution of Mustang horses and mix of breeding.

The United States government purchased 150 horses from Germany every year for 10 years between the 1800's and 1900's. The East Friesian horse was a heavy warmblood that could pull heavy wagons and artillery- but some escaped and their blood was mixed with the Wild Mustangs of the west.

The herds of Mustangs started to cause problems when the western United states became settled and the land was needed for cattle to graze. Some mustangs were shot to the point that the population was cut in half by 1926. A Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act was passed by Congress in 1971 that helps protect these horses. The population of Mustangs grew again, until they were too numerous once again. The Adopt-a-Horse program in 1973 began in Montana to help distribute excess Mustangs in a humane way. Individuals can adopt a horse for $125 provided they meet certain requirements. The government actually owns the adopted horses for a year after adoptions, until a veterinarian statement is produced to show the horse is under good care.

Most Mustang horses are warmbloods, and the coat colors can be any colors found on horses. Some still exhibit Spanish characteristics despite that blood being very diluted in the breed.

*NATIONAL SHOW HORSE*

A registry called The National Show Horse Registry was created in order to meet the need within the equine industry for athletic horses with beauty that could be shown in the ring.

The breed has the refinement and stamina of the typical Arabian horse, and a high-stepping movement like the American Saddlebred. In 1981, the National Show Horse breed was born. The registry has taken every possible step to be sure that a wide variety of combinations of the Arabian and American Saddlebred bloodlines produce a high quality horse.

New concepts and horse shows have been developed in which to show these fantastic horses, and a high prize money system encourages spectators and exhibitors to participate.

*NEW FOREST PONY*

The New Forest Pony is named for and was originated from a forest located in southern England. Of the mountain and moorland ponies in the British Isles, the New Forest Pony is the most recognized breed. They are known for their strength, willing to please temperaments, intelligence and versatility.

The size of New Forest Ponies are usually between 12 and 14 hands. They are often brown, bay and gray colored, although some chestnuts, blacks and roans can be seen. The registry allows a few white markings on legs and head.

Well bred New Forest Ponies have a free and straight movement, strong quarters, body debth and be a good riding horse. Their versatility allows them ability to participate in Pony Club, Dressage and Polo-Driving, as well as gymkhana and jumping. Many New Forest Ponies are used for training to carry handicap riders.

New Forest Ponies are extremely gentle and they are often used for children's horses. They can carry light weight adults as well, and are an ideal driving pony.<bio>Phillipe Wiskell is a writer for www.HorseClicks.com, popular classifieds of horses for sale, horse trailers, farms for sale.</bio>

When discussing areas of northeastern Los Angeles often one hears of the Arroyo Seco. To a native Angelino it's a common name, but the reality is very few native California know what it is. Is it a mountain, a forest of trees? Most know it is not a city, so just what is it? The Arroyo Seco is a great long canyon that extends from the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains north of Pasadena, southward along the western edge of South Pasadena. It skirts the Garvanza district, and continues south through Highland Park until it joins the Los Angeles River not far from Elysian Park.

The Arroyo Seco, as with other parts of the City of Pasadena, are sitting within a great gorge which has been formed by the depositions of eroded bedrock that has washed out of the San Gabriel Mountains for thousands of years and then deposited by various streams and brooks. Significant portions of the Arroyo Seco watershed are protected open space, ranging from the National Forest to golf courses to passive nature parks. There is almost a continuous stretch of open space in the Arroyo Seco from the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel Mountains to its confluence with the Los Angeles River.

Years ago, written into the glorious history of Pasadena, the Arroyo Seco was a peaceful and quiet little village dotted with orchards of walnuts, olives and a mix of citrus trees, and a few spectacular homes sprinkled about. In recent years due to its magnificent scenery, balmy and warm climate, and it's lush green natural landscaping and natural meandering trails, the Arroyo Seco has become quite a favorite hot spot of the locals and tourists alike for hiking, fishing, hunting, and various other recreational activities. The Arroyo Seco is home to the famous Rose Bowl, Brookside Golf Course and other recreational facilities, and one of the most popular and heavily visited areas of Los Angeles.
Are you yearning to see the great outdoors in all of it's basic, untouched beauty? If you are sick and tired of the same old mundane activities, then you should consider visiting the state of Colorado. For those in the know it's known worldwide for its endless scenic beauty and peacefulness.

Depending or your knowledge and level of stamina, you can go for Colorado horse camping and hiking trails. To minimize the pain and help you choose the best camping and hiking trails for you, here are some of the most popular Colorado horse camping and hiking trails.

THE AMERICAN DISCOVERY TRAIL

American discovery trail, one of the most diverse, expanded and explored camping and hiking trails is located in the eastern plains of Colorado. It is one of the most peaceful and the oldest trails in the history of this area. Many of the explorers, philosophers and great pioneers of the past have used this trail to reach new lands. Today this Colorado hiking trail proves to be a real testament to nature and is the best place to relax and be peaceful. This place being one of the best choices that brings one close to the nature.

Along with great pleasure, this place ensures to provide the people with great challenges. One would really have to work hard to reach this trail as it passes through 15 mountains that are over 9,000 feet, so you can imagine the amount of comfort and sense of accomplishment one would get after reaching it!

THE ARAPAHO AND ROOSEVELT NATIONAL FORESTS

Of course you can go anywhere, but the place not to be missed is the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests for horse camping and hiking trails. Situated in north central Colorado, this forest and grassland covers 1.5 million acres of land. It starts from the north of the Wyoming border that is to the south; and goes up to Interstate 70 towards Mount Evans. This forest covers up the Continental Divide going to the William Fork area, from the west side. This forest is so expanded and has a lot of wild animals to be seen. So if you decide to visit this place, then in spite with all the luxuries provided, you will be extremely happy to see the wild species roaming around.

Since the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests is like a big jungle, once you enter it, you are more likely to get confused and lost, most of the times, and therefore carrying a GPS along would prove to be a great idea. You need to be prepared for it, as it might be a wonderful experience but not fun at all if you wind up lost.

THE BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON

The Black Canyon of The Gunnison is one of the most challenging Colorado horse camping and hiking trails with lots of constructive activities. This place is so steep that it can also prove to be very challenging for even the most seasoned professional hikers. However, since there are plenty of trails to choose from you don't have to choose a difficult trail since there are plenty of easy ones to go with. <bio>Joseph Coultier makes it easy to enjoy camping, quickly and easily.
A deciduous tree is a type of tree that periodically shed their leaves. A forest that is composed of mainly deciduous trees will appear as if it is bare or naked during the cold, winter months. A deciduous tree usually grows in a well-watered, temperate area that has a warm, long growing season that alternates with a cold winter. The precipitation that a deciduous tree requires during the year is snow and rain. Snow is very important because snow creates moisture that stays in the soil well into the spring months.

A deciduous tree, woody vines or shrubs that are located in the middle latitudes or the topics will drop their leaves during a period of a drought. For a woody plant that is located in a temperate area the winter is the time when the deciduous tree will shed its leaves. If the winter is so severe that the ground freezes that the water is unable to be taken in by the roots of the tree then the tree will shed its leaves.

As the spring blooms all around the deciduous tree will re-grow their shade-casting leaves. The deciduous tree provides adequate shade to many plants that grow in full or partial shade. The spring time is when the deciduous tree experiences a long season of reproduction and growth. This is when deciduous trees will reproduce and create seedlings, from seeds fallen in fall, that can be seen sprouted along the forest floor. After this long season of reproduction the leaves of the deciduous tree will begin to change colors in preparation for winter.

Most temperate deciduous forests, that require a cold winter season, can be found in the Northern Hemisphere. Also, a deciduous forest can be found in three major tracts of the world. In Europe the deciduous tree is usually found in the British Isles and in France reaching as far as central and Eastern Europe. Deciduous forests have been spotted as far as the Ural Mountains.

In East Asia a deciduous forest is found in the far east of Russia, the Korea Peninsula, Northeast China and Japan. Most of the deciduous forests are found in North America and occupy the areas that are around the Great Lakes, the Atlantic Ocean and in the south near the Gulf of Mexico.

Even though these forests are vastly separated a deciduous forest, no matter where its location is, consists of the same group of plants. The plants and trees that can be found in a deciduous forest include elms, walnuts, maples, oaks, beeches, birches, chestnuts, ashes and hornbeams.

A deciduous forest is most beautiful during the spring, summer and fall months. During the winter months many people find a deciduous forest to look barren and empty. An evergreen tree usually provides the only color in a deciduous forest during the colder months. A deciduous forest is a real treat when the leaves are changing color. This is when the countryside will be dotted with reds, oranges and browns. The fall season is when a deciduous forest reaches new and beautiful heights.<bio>Owner of Mishobonsai.com , has been practicing bonsai for over 10 years.
Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva last week announced that the government would allow "sustainable" logging within 3% of the Amazon rain forest. The objective of the law is to reduce illegal logging while giving rural Brazilians employment. The plan is also aimed at generating revenue for forest management and protection.

Logging licenses will be restricted to private Brazilian companies, and by changing logging patterns, it is hoped that less damage will be done to the rain forest.

Current illegal logging practices, which account for most of the production, pay little heed to environmental regulations. A 2005 study found that "stealth logging" -- the selective logging of mature trees carried out under the protective canopy of the forest -- causes considerable damage to the forest.

In fact the study found that such selective logging is almost as harmful as if the forest was just cleared. Selectively logged areas are up to 8 times more likely to be settled and eventually cleared because of the access roads that are cut into the forest.

Logging itself is not thought to be the main cause of deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. That honor goes to agricultural expansion -- cattle ranching, soybean production and subsistence farming.

The Amazon area has lost more than 132,000 square kilometers of rainforest since the end of the 1990s.

The hope is that Brazilian firms will be able to operate profitably in the Amazon without damaging or diminishing the forest. Given the importance of the Amazon district to the ecology of the entire world, this is an experiment that all of us should hope will be successful.

**Brazil automakers sustained by exports

Although the Brazilian domestic market for new automobiles was down slightly in February, exports increased, keeping the overall level of vehicle production moving upwards. February production was up 3.3% over January and 3.9% over February of 2005.

Analysts had expected exports to decrease as the value of the Brazilian real strengthened. The real has gained almost 25% against the U.S. dollar since the beginning of 2005. But, in fact auto exports increased -- a sign that the Brazilian economy is stronger than expected.

Although domestic auto sales were down by 3.8% from January, this is an increase of 11.3% over February 2005.

Flex-fuel vehicles continued to be the biggest sellers, accounting for 93,000 or 76.6% of the total sales. Flex-fuel vehicles run on any combination of gasoline and ethanol.
Camping offers the opportunity for families to bond in a way that is often overlooked in our high tech world. It provides a chance to escape the stresses associated with school, work, tasks at home and the everyday hurriedness that characterizes most of our lives regardless of age.

Camping offers so many opportunities to be together and do things you could never do while you are ensconced in the comfort of your home. You can learn teamwork, communication, dealing with unexpected challenges, and more.

There are many pristine and beautiful areas in the United States that offer a taste of the wilderness, yet provide camping accommodations that are not completely barren of all modern convenience. One of the best places in the southern states is the Shenandoah National Forest along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Here one can set up their tent, experience the beauty of forests that contain the flora and fauna native to the region, hike along the Appalachian Trail, view waterfalls and see the magnificent vistas of the valleys below from the ridge lines as well as enjoy the company of family without the stress that is often encountered at home. Note that you will need to get a free camping permit from a ranger station if you plan on camping in the backwoods. Or you can rent a spot in one of the campgrounds in the park.

A fireside chat under the stars offers the opportunity to convey the values that are important in life to our children without the distractions that are present in the home environment. Camping offers the opportunity to teach self reliance, survival skills, an appreciation of the wonder of nature and allows family members to develop a sense of calmness that is often lacking in other environments. Different and unique challenges bring a family closer together as a hike is undertaken, wood for a fire is gathered, native species are observed and the solitude of the forest is captured.

At the same time, along the Blue Ridge Parkway one can enjoy the wonderful museum that records the history of the area and explains how the park came into existence. For those that desire a more guided experience, forest rangers regularly conduct guided tours and point out unique aspects of the park to visitors.

You don't have to travel far to find a good place to camp. No matter where you live, you almost certainly have state parks, national parks, or other government lands near you that allow camping. Be sure that the area you intend to go allows camping -- if you are unsure, contact the local park ranger's station or office.

Also be sure to keep safety first when you are camping. Learn the important safety rules for camping and follow them. Staying safe while you are camping is not hard -- just make it a priority.

This is just one short view of what a camping experience can offer to a family. Camping is relatively inexpensive and provides educational and bonding opportunities that should not go unexplored.<bio>Need camping and outdoor gear?
Rainforest deforestation impacts the planet, local and global economies. We're going to focus on the local changes, and work from there, up the chain of events and causality. The typical cycle is that rain forest lands get clear cut and used for crop lands, then cattle grazing lands when the crops fail, then abandoned (or used for housing if conveniently located), when even grazing lands fail. This is part of a vicious cycle =96 most of the nutrients in a rain forest biome are tied in the living organisms, not the soil itself. When they're clear cut, and burned, most of the resulting land is poor for agricultural use, low in phosphorus and nitrates, with soil that will blow away when the first wind storm hits. Soil exhaustion and salinization from over irrigation makes things even worse. This is, in many ways, analogous to strip-mining the soil, much as one would strip mine for copper or iron ore.

In an active and thriving rain forest, minerals and nutrients cycle quickly. When the rain forest is chopped down, those nutrients aren't there any more. They're shipped off as building materials or simply burned to clear the land. When grasses are seeded for cattle ranching, the soil is already starting depleted, and gets more so quickly. Eventually, the grass gets overgrazed, winds and rains come down and wash the soil into estuaries, and the process cycles even faster.

Erosion from deforestation is an attendant problem. The cover provided by the rain forest canopy keeps the tropical sunlight from baking the moisture out of the soils, and the aspiration of the plants helps capture rain clouds and seed clouds for rain. After the forest has been cleared, rainfall drops considerably. The tropical rain forest is a perfect example of a system where the combination of elements creates a whole greater than the sum of the parts.

There are several programs in place to try to preserve rain forests; the problems come from the fact that, in terms of local economics, it's hard to convince a farmer that clearing more land to raise more crops and make more money is a losing proposition compared to leaving the rain forest in place as a refuge for vermin and predators. Trying to preserve islands of rainforest land hasn't worked; the minimum area for viable rainforest biomes is around one hundred square miles, and most of the island experiments have been a tenth of that or less. Now, larger non governmental organizations are trying to buy up large tracts of rainforest land to keep as nature preserves, or to use as a basis for ecological tourism as a revenue stream to offset land use taxes, and the economic incentives for clear cutting.

Some efforts are being put in place to teach local farmers to work with the rain forest ecosystem rather than competing with it, using clearings in the rain forest for garden plots, and attempting to harvest the bounty of the rainforest directly. These have met a great deal of resistance because of the difficulties in balancing immediate short term profit with long term sustainability. <bio>Learn about Preservation of Endangered Rainforest Birds and Plant Species at http://www.paradiseearthonline.com </bio>

The park has a fragrant evergreen scent waffling through the forest. The park is open and airy character to the forest that lets the camp grounds have bright sunlight and breezes flow through.

Bradbury Mountain State Park has camp sites that are first come first serve and they also have camp sites you must make a reservation for. (1-800-332-1501/1-207-287-3824) The campground host site is on the right as you enter the park.

The campgrounds at the park all have a hard, sandy surface that holds on to tent stakes. Camping sites 6-7 are moderately spacious. These two sites plus site 15 have an old stone wall that goes through them and are open forest for light and a breeze. The three sites don't have to much privacy because of the open forest but are good for a bigger family setting. Also 8-9 and 15-16 have the same lay out like one extremely large spot, these are good camp sites for a large group of people.

Bradbury Mountain State Park single camp sites differ in size and are mark as such on a map if you have bought one. The sites at the park are similar when it comes to privacy do to the open forest and light undergrowth.

Bradbury Mountain State Park is a year around site and the park has 41 camp sites with fire rings, picnic tables, with hiking trails, play area, softball field, and cross country skiing. The numbers to call for information on dates and fee's and reservation are 1-800-332-1501 / 1-207-287-3824 also ask about pets and alcohol and any other concerns.

Even though the camp grounds sites seem to be exposed to one another you will still have plenty of room and medium privacy. <bio>Ronald Moody has been an avid fisherman for 40 years.
