Like crabgrass on a lawn, algae can be bothersome. Fortunately, there are ways to control the growth of algae in your aquarium.

It is impossible to eliminate algae altogether, and you should not be frustrated by the persistent nature of algae to accumulate. What you can do is control the condition under which plant life and fish thrives and algae does not. First, how much light are you allowing into your tank area? If you have light for more than ten hours a day, you are assisting algae grow in your tank, so don't keep the lights on 24-7. You can purchase algae eating fish if that would fit with your aquarium's motif. Some fish types that consume algae are three breeds of suckermouth catfish, the Ancistrus, Peckoltia, and Otocinlus. In addition, the Siamese Algae Eater, Crossocheilus siamensis is a great choice for controlling the algae in your tank. If you have a large tank, then the Common Plec is a good choice as well. But they are aggressive fish and do grow to huge size. Saltwater fish that are excellent for algae consumption are most tangs/surgeon fish, or any grazer.

The next step in controlling algae is to consistently change the water itself. By doing this, you are controlling the nutrient levels in the tank, which is crucial. Controlling nitrates, phosphates, and silicates are especially important. Another thing to look for is how you are controlling the iron in the tank. You can include different kinds of plants in your setup so they will compete for iron and other nutrients algae feeds off of in order to how a low opportunity for algae to survive.

Your first battle is likely to be with brown algae, or diatoms, because it appears first by siphoning silicon from the new aquarium tank itself, and unlike other stages of algae, it is unaffected by low lighting levels, so controlling light will not stop it from thriving. You can effectively combat it by changing water and gravel often. Diatoms thrive in conditions where phosphate is low and silicon is high, and this is generally what your scenario will be when you first start your aquarium. As time progresses and the environment changes, brown algae is usually replaced by green algae, because green algae thrives in a higher phosphate environment.

Green algae is apparently delicious and the best way to get rid of it is to bring in those algae eating catish and/or Siamese. Combined with keeping your aquarium only lit for a maximum of ten hours a day and simple manual removal of clumps of green algae, you can control what is typically the most usual and common algae growth in your aquarium.

Red Algae, or Brush, is a real problem because it is difficult to remove manually and most fish won't eat it. Take care of this pesky nuisance by changing your water to RO/DI water and let your Siamese fish tackle it.

Blue Algae, or Cynobacteria, have photosynthesis, meaning the more light, the more it thrives. It is extremely harmful to both plants, by smothering, and fish, by poisoning. Treat your aquarium with erythromycin but be sure you know what you are doing, as you will need to check for ammonia and nitrate. <bio>Salty Supply offers the most premium aquarium supplies on the net.
It is a fact they say, that if you have an aquarium long enough, you will have to deal with an algae problem at some point. Not all of it is bad, but it will make the tank look ugly to view, and could overwhelm the other species in your aquarium tank.

There are different types of algae that can grow in there, and it is very beneficial to know them all, as not all of them are necessarily bad. The green hair-like looking growth that starts out as a small green slimy patch is one of the more common types, and as long as it is kept in check, means that you have succeeded in creating a healthy eco-system for your fish.

If you have a saltwater aquarium, you might run into red or brown algae. This usually occurs in new saltwater tanks and affects coral. The water quality of your tank is responsible for this problem.

Some other not so colorful looking algae problems are the diatom and cynobacteria. They diatoms are the hardest type to clean, as they have hard shells that look like dots, and they cling to the tank. Green algae tend to grow on them, so if not taken care of, you could have a double problem on your hands.

Cynobacteria is a very slimy looking type of algae that is very easy to clean and very difficult to get rid of completely. It grows fast, and returns even faster, so be worried and take action if you see this in your tank. Cleaning the corals in your tank is a good way of getting rid of this annoyance.

One of the biggest factors controlling the growth of algae in your aquarium is placement of the tank itself. If the tank is placed next to a window, direct sunlight could be a cause of your algae problem. Windows that have aquarium tanks near them need to have blinds put on them to diffuse the sunlight coming in. That along with regular cleaning will help control the problem.

A "live" solution is to result to creatures that eat the algae, such as putting algae eating snails and fish in the tank as long as the aquarium does not get overpopulated. You must keep an eye on this so you don't substitute one problem for another and accidentally kill your fish. Limiting the amount of light your fish get is another one of these "know what you are doing before you do it" kind of moves. Your fish do need the light so check with your pet shop pro before experimenting.

Other algae cleaning options are ultraviolet sterilizers and algae scrubbers, as well as equipment that does ozonation, resin exchange, reverse osmosis and distilling the tank water.

So in the end you probably will have an algae problem at some point so trying to prevent it would be a futile effort. Keep your tank clean and take care of the problem quickly to keep you and your fish happy. <bio>Find out more information about setting up an aquarium at http://www.aquarium-at-home.com </bio>

Algae are plants that are undesirable in any aquarium. Once algae grow in an aquarium, they will compete with the other inhabitants of the aquarium for nutrients and other resources needed for survival. That is why it is necessary to control algae in the aquariums. Algae can never be completely eliminated from an aquarium, but by using certain preventive measures, the amount of algae can quite certainly be kept to a minimum limit.

First, let us see the factors that promote the growth of algae.

1.Sunlight =96 Just like for any other plant life, sunlight is absolutely essential for the growth of algae too. Though sunlight looks very good for the water of the aquarium, the same sunlight can cause algae to grow, which could be hazardous to the other living organisms. Not just direct sunlight, but any form of artificial aquarium light too would promote algal growth if it is kept on continuously for more than 10 hours per day.

2.Nutrient levels =96 Algae will grow faster if there is an overabundance of nutrients in your aquarium. All plants require nitrates, phosphates and silicates for their better growth. When you introduce nutrients into the aquarium, the levels of these nutrients might go higher, which would facilitate algal growth.

3.Plant population =96 Algae will grow faster in a tank if there are very few plants in the tank to compete with, because then they can get all the resources present in the tank.

Now that we know what the major factors promoting the growth of algae in aquatic tanks are, we can try to understand the methods that can be employed in order to check the growth of algae. The following are some algae control methods that can be employed even by amateur aquarium owners:-

1.There are some species of fish that eat algae. These fish are called as tank cleaner fishes. Some of the cheaply and popularly available tank cleaner fishes are the otos or dwarf suckermouth catfish, Siamese algae eater, bushy-nosed pleco, twig catfish and even the Japanese algae eating shrimp. You can introduce one of these fishes into the tank once it begins to show an algal infiltration. You can also include a hermit crab or a snail, since they feed on algae too.

2.Using a protein skimmer could be a very good option too. Protein skimmers are devices that remove the unwanted proteins from the tank environment. They will remove the dissolved organic compounds from the tank, which would otherwise promote the growth of algae. They bring the nutrient level down. Protein skimmers also reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide from the tank, which the algae, being plants, need for food preparation through photosynthesis.

3.Reduce the amount of actinic lighting in your aquarium setup. The actinic lighting is the blue light, and it helps to promote the growth of algae if used in excess. The ideal situation would be use 50% of actinic light mixed with 50% of white spectrum (daytime) light. Also, the light sources must be replaced periodically. All VHO (Very High Output) fluorescent lights need replacement after every eight months. Metal halide lamps will do with an annual replacement. It must also be remembered not to keep the artificial light source continuously on for more than 10 hours in a day.

4.Carbon dioxide is directly responsible for the growth of algae because, after all, they are plants. If your carbon dioxide filter has choked up, then there is a possibility that the level of carbon dioxide in the tank will be high. Using a pump in the aquarium to allow the water to circulate continuously is way of reducing on the amount of carbon dioxide in the tank. You can find out when the carbon dioxide level in the aquarium is going up by checking the alkalinity and pH value of the water within the tank. If these levels show an abnormal dip, then it is time to do something about increased carbon dioxide levels within the tank. <bio>Salty Supply is your premier store for saltwater aquarium supplies.
The most frequent cause of death in pond fish are extreme environmental stressors such as the lack of oxygen. Blooming algae is the concern for the two of the major factors that contribute to oxygen loss in fish ponds. While algae makes oxygen during the daylight hours, plants take that oxygen back out of the water during the night. The death of pond fish can be brought about when the algae is profusely blooming and all the plants deplete all the pond's oxygen at night.

Algae can also trigger oxygen loss by dying suddenly, either naturally or by an algaecide chemical treatment. When this sudden death of the algae occurs, the algae are no longer able to make the necessary oxygen and therefore the level of oxygen is severely depleted. The oxygen in the water is depleted even further when the algae starts to decompose. Within one hour of the time that the algae dies, it has been observed that the fish in the pond often gulp for oxygen at the surface.

Oxygen in ponds that are liberally stocked with fish only provide for adequate amounts of oxygen to sustain them. The delicate environmental balance in this situation will easily become upset if any further claim on the existing oxygen is made. Conditions for fish survival often become critical when the warm-weather water temperatures rise and when there is little to no aeration provided for them.

When the water temperatures start to warm up, the water's capacity for retaining oxygen decreases. As a result, smaller waterfalls, fountains and other aerators cannot provide adequate oxygen for the fish to survive. When water temperatures surpass 80 degrees Fahrenheit, it is important that you introduce additional oxygen through brisk aeration, especially when you are fighting algae growth in the pond.

The only sure way of to reading the accuracy levels of oxygen in your pond is through a testing device. However, these devices are not available to the for the average person maintaining a backyard fish pond or water garden. The easiest way to ensure proper oxygen levels is through continual and generous aeration through pumps, diffusers, and airstones that bubble air into water as well as other splashing devices. Larger fountains and waterfalls will provide more aeration and oxygen for the pond. Be sure that supplemental aeration is constantly provided, day and night when an algae problem exists, or when the weather gets warm.

Another cause of sudden death in fish is a variety of algae that contain potent toxins. the death resulting from this variety of algae often causes a more devastating result than the a quick die-off of algal bloom. This is because of the concurrent discharge of toxins into the water; resulting in the deaths of some or all of the fish. Fortunately, the danger is rare since pond owners are unable to identify these algae.

You can increase the life span of your fish and make them happy and healthy by keeping your oxygen levels under control at all times.<bio>Visit Backyard Water Feature for more tips and resources for backyard water gardening.</bio>

Are you a fish lover? Something other than grilled salmon with lemon sauce is what is meant here. You must be if you have them in your house in an aquarium tank and not the freezer. If you have had fish for a while, you definitely know how hard it can be to keep that aquarium tank clean. If you are new to all of this, you will soon find out. Don't worry about getting bored though, algae growth, ammonia levels and uneaten fish food will keep you quite busy. Let's look at these problems and figure out what to do about them.

They say you shouldn't use the bathroom where you eat, but with fish in a tank there is no option obviously. The water will get very dirty with leftover food and fish you -know-what. You must have an aquarium filter to clean the water. These can run more money than you might have planned, but it is worth every penny. If you don't have one, you might be doing "spring cleaning" every few weeks. That means scrubbing the tank after everything has been taken out. Make sure that whatever filter you buy, you know how to clean it thoroughly. You can cause more damage to your fish if your dirty filter messes up the delicate aquarium water balance.

If you notice a problem with algae, you can try keeping the tank away from windows. Algae growth is affected by light, both natural and artificial such as fluorescent lighting. If you are using fluorescent lighting, don't keep it on for more than ten hours. Also keep in mind that fish have day and night cycles just like humans do.

Algae can also be taken care of the old fashioned way. Put some algae eating animals in the aquarium. There is a fish called the Chinese Algae Eater which will feast on the unwanted growth in your tank; however they can become very aggressive as adult fish, so be careful lest they start feasting on the other fish in your tank.

If you don't mind waiting days to get the job done, a good old dependable snail can take care of the problem. If you don't want to wait, manual labor will help. You can scrape the tank clean with a scraper bought at your local pet store. They also have things such as reverse osmosis and ozonization equipment that can help.

Back to the old fish poop problem. Here is something simple and elegant that you can try. Put the gravel on the aquarium floor slanting toward the front of the tank. You will be able to see the material that has accumulated, however, make sure that there is not too much space between the gravel or it will hide everything and you will see nothing.

One of the simplest and most overlooked things you can do to keep a clean aquarium is to be careful of how many fish you put in there. The more fish the bigger the tank needs to be to accommodate the proper amount of water. Unlike the open ocean or lake, your tank is a closed system. Just imagine living in a studio apartment with fifteen or thirty of your closest ex-friends. Remember, more fish means more fish poop, and that means possible high levels of ammonia.

You should plan on cleaning your tank every two to four weeks. Don't worry if the water becomes yellowish in between cleanings. This could be do to the plants you have in there and not necessarily dirty water. Any longer than four weeks and the water could become toxic to your fish.

Cleaning your aquarium tank may not be your preferred activity but your fish will love you for it. <bio>Don't be lost trying to figure out how to set up your first aquarium. http://www.aquarium-at-home.com has all the information you will need to get you set up properly. </bio>

What is your opinion on algae and lichens within the garden? Are you trying to discourage them or are you one of the select few who promote their growth. Let me introduce you to these algae and lichens, so you can make an informed decision.

Algae in glasshouses and polytunnels

Algae are the much-maligned green slimes found on ponds and as a greenish scum on paths and drives. You may be surprised to know algae is actually a garden plant, albeit a stem-less and non-flowering specimen. Over winter, disgusting greyish-green algae often builds up on the inside glass of our garden sheds, glasshouses and polytunnels. The solution is to trim back any surrounding planting to allow as much light as possible to enter. Also try to leave the doors and windows open for a few hours each week to prevent the build up of stagnant air. If some of the slightly powdery scum still builds up, you can wipe it off glass with a mild detergent, whereas on polytunnels only wipe the plastic with warm soapy water.

Algae control on steps and paths

Algae and mosses often coat paths and quite dangerously garden steps; damp shade is again a big factor. Reducing shade will cut down on the amount of algae and moss forming; by increasing the access of sunlight, you will also reduce dampness. The application of a copper sulphate solution (commonly known as bluestone) is a time honoured and effective way to combat algae on paths. When applied correctly it has a residual effect that prevents regrowth for up to several years after treatment. Mix copper sulphate or "bluestone" at a rate of 10 grammes to 10 litre of water in a plastic container. Apply on a dry day, brush in, and then leave it 3 weeks to act on the algae. After 3 weeks brush again with a stiff bristled brush and "hey presto". When applying any algae or moss control solution remember to avoid drift onto surrounding lawns, plants and vehicles. Use protection equipment when applying chemicals including a mask with a dust cartridge, safety goggles and impervious gloves with overalls. Remember, apply all chemicals according to the manufacturer's instructions and heed those safety warnings.

Lichens in the garden

However, what happens when this algae teams up with a fungus and the two start to live in a mutually advantageous association or symbiosis? Well, in that situation you get a plant form known as a lichen. A situation where lichens grow in abundance is on old carved stone headstones in graveyards. Many of the age-old stones will display white growths often containing bright yellow or orange splashes. When I have occasion to attend a funeral in a graveyard, I am always struck by the contrast between the mourner's dark garb and the pings and flecks of white, yellow and orange lichen growth. These growths are the lichens, growing where other plants would falter Lichens are tough devils, if there was an SAS for the plant world they would be the first to enlist.

Growing your own lichens

I feel lichens have a place within the garden, they happen to be an accurate indicator of low pollution, no harm in that. Lichen growth also adds a considerable amount of character to feature rocks, boundary walls, terracotta containers and stone garden sculptures. If you would like to encourage this type of growth, try this recipe for "lichen slurry". Mix one tablespoon of ground up lichen to one pint of natural yogurt or buttermilk and mix well. Paint or dab this slurry onto the object you wish the lichen to grow on, sit back and be prepared to wait, as fine-looking lichen growth is quite slow to form. But, worth it. <bio>James Kilkelly runs a professional garden design service in Galway, Ireland. He has a regular gardening column in a Irish regional newspaper.
Red marine algae has been a valued food in Asia for many of years due to its high nutritious value and trace mineral qualities. Red marine algae has been used by people as a food staple for thousands of years in costal regions around the world. This alga is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, proteins, complex carbohydrates, enzymes, essential fatty acids, fiber and trace elements. It nourishes skin, balances skin oils and helps with various skin disorders.

You might wonder how Red Marine Algae can help you. Red marine algae can assist the body's immune response to viruses. Some consider this alga to be one of the most beneficial ocean vegetables in the world, which has caught the attention of the modern scientific community for its immune supporting properties which may help with skin disorders such as herpes.

Herpes I also known as cold sores are not nice viruses because they can lie dormant for years and then be activated by one trigger or another. Herpes is a contagious viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Studies suggest that red marine algae has been shown to have significant inhibitory effects against herpes.

Red Marine Algae's medicinal properties are thought to enhance the immune system's response, indicating that it is an immuno modulatory perfect as an antiviral agent. The polysaccharides or long chained complex sugars stimulate interferon production as well as other anti-tumor and immune- enhancing agents such as T and B cells improving their action in the body. Because Algae stimulates the immune system, increases white blood cell count and promotes the growth of healthy flora, algae supplements are ideal for improving immune, skin, and overall health.

Herpes has some what of a bad reputation; there are five types of herpes viruses that are very common causing conditions such as cold sores, shingles and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Epstein Barr. Red marine algae through its immune boosting properties can reduce the formation of herpes virus colonies, also helping to reduce the number and severity of outbreaks when they occur. Eradication of the herpes virus will most likely never happen, but success in the short term temporarily suppression of the virus has been achieved with diet and marine algae.

The polysaccharides found in Red Marine Algae are what give this alga a powerful immune stimulator. This alga is often referred to as a sea vegetable, research has proven that the sulfated polysaccharides in red marine algae may provide nutritional support for immune health. Research has isolated and identified a number of sulfated polysaccharides from sea plants that improve immune function, but do sulfated polysaccharides only boost immune response or can they do more. Yes they can do more, clinical trials have shown that these sulfated polysaccharides can suppress HIV, herpes, and influenza viruses, and patients have reported a lessening or even a halting of their growth within the body. It is a great antiviral alga that anybody who suffers from the above listed viruses should consider.

In addition to antiviral properties, red marine algae has been useful in weight-loss, lowering cholesterol and fat in the blood, detoxifying and counteracting degenerative conditions. The antiviral polysaccharides found in sea algae can stimulate the production of interferons, which work with the immune system and strengthen it. A long series of scientific studies has confirmed that red marine algae has potent antiviral applications and that, when used as a medicinal food, could play and important role for people who are susceptible to herpes (Cold sore) conditions, including genital herpes and shingles, as well as other viral conditions.

In summary, we know that sufficient rest together with a good diet and exercise can do much to maintain a robust immune system. This ancient life-giving balance we receive from red marine algae takes on new meaning when understood as a major step towards strengthening our immune system to fight viruses. While outbreaks are never predictable, the number of outbreaks can be reduced through a proper diet and exercise to build up the immune system, proper amount of sleep, Stress management techniques, such as meditation, avoiding extended exposure to sunlight, and supplementing with red marine algae.<bio>More information on red marine algae is available at VitaNet ®, LLC Health Food Store. http://vitanetonline.com/</bio>

Superfoods are being increasingly touted by nutritionists as being among the healthiest food sources available. There term "superfood" has a fairly broad definition depending upon whom you talk to or what you read. In essence, however, it generally refers to any food with a high concentration of phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are plant-derived compounds that are acclaimed for their health-promoting benefits by health food companies and scientific researchers alike.

Commonly-recognized superfoods include berries, leafy greens, and sprouts. Other well-known and often-written-about ones include bee pollen, aloe vera, raw cacao (chocolate), goji berries, and flax seeds, to mention a few. All of these foods are available at most grocery and natural food stores.

Notably, some of the superfoods that have garnered the most attention over the past few decades are three types of organic green superfoods: spirulina, blue-green algae, and chlorella (all of which are types of algae!). Each of these foods is extremely high in protein and other nutrients.

Here are some details about what each of these types of algae can offer in terms of nutrition and health benefits:

1. Spirulina:

Spirulina contains an unusually high amount of protein -- between 55% and 77% by dry weight, depending upon where it was grown and harvested. In fact, spirulina contains more protein per gram than any other food in existence. Furthermore, spirulina contains a complete form of protein, meaning that it contains all of the essential amino acids. It is generally considered to offer protein that is superior to typical plant proteins, like that of legumes.

Spirulina is also one of the richest sources of beta-carotene known to science. Beta carotene is an organic compound that is a precursor to Vitamin A, an essential human nutrient important for vision and bone health. Finally it is the highest source of the B vitamin complex, B12 included!

2. Blue-Green Algae:

Blue-green algae - also known as cyanobacteria - is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, containing glycoproteins, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Typically, blue-green algae are harvested in natural lakes such as Upper Klamath Lake in south-central Oregon.

Blue-green algae also contain one of the most concentrated forms of phenylethylamine, which is an important component of a certain neurotransmitter and contributes toward balancing the neurological system and brain.

3. Chlorella:

Chlorella is a type of single-cell algae that can contain up to 50% protein, as well as amino acids and vitamins. It is the richest source of chlorophyll of any food that names chlorella as the ultimate "detox" food. Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in most plants and algae. It is known to have a number of health benefits, including growth and repair of tissues, neutralization of pollutants in the body, assisting the blood in carrying oxygen to cells and tissues, and neutralizing free radicals that do damage to healthy cells. Overall, chlorophyll (and the chlorella superfood that carries it) is an excellent detoxifier.

The three green, algae-based superfoods spirulina, blue-green algae, and chlorella represent a robust and powerful source of nutrients for the body. Together, they offer an abundance of protein for healthy muscles, phenylethylamine for a balanced brain, beta-carotene for eye and bone health, and chlorophyll for tissue repair and overall detoxification. When looking for a power-punch green food combination for your health, these algae-based products are among your most promising options.<bio>Billy's Superfoods offers one of the healthiest algae-based superfood formulas anywhere, with ingredients sourced from the most nutrient-rich locations around the world.
Saltwater Aquarium Care -- How to Maintain the Health of Your Saltwater Aquarium Plants

Good saltwater aquarium care means taking care of the fish and water quality in your tank but it also means taking care of your aquarium plants. Not only do your aquarium plants create an interesting home and shelter for your fish, they are also essential for the health of your fish, water quality and the tank as a whole. Proper, saltwater aquarium care, therefore, must always take into account the health of your marine plants.

Some marine plants are hardy and easy to care for while others need quite a bit of practice and experience. If you are a novice aquarist it is a good idea to start with hardy plants, as these are easier to care for. Once you have a bit more practice in correct saltwater aquarium care you can move on to fussier varieties.

The first thing to do is to decide what you want to achieve with your marine plants. You should do this even before you buy your tank. If you want big, healthy plants make sure you know what equipment you need, what sort of saltwater aquarium care is required and how much time it will take you to achieve these results.

If you are more concerned with the fish in your tank than plant life then it might be a good idea to invest in one or two plastic plants instead. Responsible saltwater aquarium care means knowing what you want and getting the balance right.

While most marine plants do grow into lush, healthy plants they all need good lighting. This is so that they have enough energy for making their own food by means of photosynthesis. Without sufficient light for photosynthetic activity your plants will remain stunted or die. So part of correct saltwater aquarium care involves making sure that your aquarium provides sufficient lighting for plant growth.

To make sure that your plants are getting enough light keep the following rule of thumb in mind: For each gallon of water in a tank you will require 3 to 5 watts of light. Most aquarium lighting systems are below that level, however so you may need to shop around to find adequate lighting to make sure you are providing the proper saltwater aquarium care for your plants.

In the natural aquarium the fish and plant populations are perfectly balanced and compliment each other. Marine plants create shelter, shade, and even food for your fish! Plants that are well lit will give off oxygen and this creates a good environment for your fish. So proper saltwater aquarium care makes your tank healthy and provides optimum conditions for plants and fish alike.

The fish will, in turn, feed off the carbon dioxide released by the fish. Plants also feed off the waste that fish produce. This helps to absorb some of the waste that might become toxic to your fish. So as you can see proper saltwater aquarium care means maintaining a healthy balance for all the life in your tank.

To provide proper saltwater aquarium care for your plants and fish you need to make sure that conditions in your tank are optimal. Plant growth needs water which is at the correct ph levels. It also needs the water to be at the correct temperature for growth and survival.

Unfortunately this might not fit in with the temperature requirements of the fish species you want to keep. So you might have to decide between plants and fish in some cases. Again, good saltwater aquarium care is always about finding the happy medium.

Fish also eat or tear away sections of plants and this might actually ruin the aesthetic appeal of your tank. Plants may be uprooted by the foraging activity of your fish. So plant care can be a bit tricky and does require some patience. One of the most frustrating aspects of saltwater aquarium care is the occurrence of marine algae.

Algae can really be a problem for the marine aquarist. Sometimes despite the best saltwater aquarium care -- lights, substrate additives, fertilizers and CO2 systems -- instead of lush plant growth you are confronted with algal growth. Algae can be very difficult to get rid of once it has taken root and it can really limit the growth of other plants.

Usually the aquarist employs various methods of saltwater aquarium care for combating this scourge. These might include using algicides, bleach dips, antibiotics (for cyanobacteria), manual removal or fish or invertebrates that feed on algae.

During an algal attack the amount of food and light is decreased and different amounts of fertilizer are tried -- sometimes with success. Correct saltwater aquarium care results in some sort of balance being reached.

The best form of saltwater aquarium care and algae treatment is to provide the tank with a water change. In fact if you could change the tank water daily it would be ideal but this is obviously not very practical. You should change 25% of the water at least twice weekly, however. If you can stick to this schedule the amount of algae in the tank will be reduced and your fish and plants will be healthier. A water change should form a part of routine saltwater aquarium care whether you have an algal problem or not.

So what kinds of plants can you grow in a saltwater aquarium? A variety of plants are suitable for a saltwater aquarium. Choose from grape algae (Caulerpa racemosa), Halimeda Halimeda sp, shaving brush algae (Penicillus capitus), fan algae (Udotea flabellum), corralline bush algae (Galaxaura sp.), sea grass, red gracilaria (which your fish can eat) and many others. Proper saltwater aquarium care means making sure that your plants and fish co-exist in perfect harmony.

Proper saltwater aquarium care means really getting to know your marine tank. Do as much research as possible to ensure that your marine plants and fish have everything they need to grow, stay healthy and be happy. If you get it right, your aquarium will provide you with many hours of entertainment, fun and pleasure. Good luck and enjoy your aquarium! <bio>Finally, All The Information You Will Ever Need To Begin A Wonderful Love Affair With Fly Fishing!
A subscriber wrote this question recently about recruiting online for her network marketing business:

Hi Carrie,

How do I introduce myself and my mission without sounding like a know-it-all? I am working toward getting people in my MLM businesses, too. So, figuring out how to work that in, is not easy either.

This is a very important question, because if you're not careful you can confuse or turn people off with a message that confuses them or that comes on too strong. This is what I would recommend:

Don't try to do two things at once.

In my opinion, it would be best for you to have one website that spotlights your product line, that gives valuable information about your product line and helps lead your customer to a buying decision. And another separate site designed to recruit for your business opportunity. Let me explain it this way.

If you walked into the health food store to browse the selection of blue-green algae in order to make a buying decision, and a sales person walked up to you, how would you feel if the conversation went like this:

Salesperson: "Hi, welcome to Shiva Foods. Can I help you fill out your application?"

You: "No, I'm here to look for a good blue-green algae supplement, can you help me find one?"

Salesperson: "Yes, the blue-green algae is on this shelf. But are you sure you don't want to work here? You can get a discount."

You: "No thanks, I just want to buy the blue-green algae. Can you tell me the difference between these two brands?"

Salesperson: "Sure (goes into explanation of the benefits of each brand of blue-green algae). Now, when you're ready to start working here, I can help you get an appointment with the manger for an interview."

You: (With increasing irritation in your voice.) "No, I SAID that I wanted to buy the blue-green algae, but I think I'll just go to the grocery store to get it. Maybe someone will help me without trying to make me into a salesperson!"

Then you leave the store.

Now. I don't mean to say that you shouldn't be engaging in recruiting for your business. Thousands of people are out there on the internet who are looking for a network marketing opportunity. What I'm saying is that when people want product, sell them that. When they want a business, sell them that. Don't confuse and distract them.

Using the above example, if you were looking for a way to earn extra income and walked into the health food store to get an application, you would be equally irritated if the employees kept trying to sell you product. The time for that is after you're hired and need to have more knowledge of the product line.

Whether you're "selling" an opportunity or a product, say the right things to the right market and you'll win.<bio>If you want to take your natural products online and don't know how, you need the Natural Mom Business Guide, the internet's only complete tutorial for people who want to earn a full time income online from their love of natural family living.</bio>

Saltwater aquarium plants add color and interest to your marine tanks and form part of any well thought out marine tank. But that's not all they do. Macroalgae and marine plants will also make the ecosystem in your tank healthier. Macroalgae are particularly beneficial as they provide a natural form of filtration in the saltwater tank.

Saltwater aquarium plants take in nutrients from the water in order to carry out their biological functions and growth. This action reduces the accumulation of toxic nitrates and phosphates and other impurities in the water. When you use plants in your marine tank the idea is to reproduce your fish and other organism's natural habitat. A tank that contains saltwater aquarium plants is likely to be a healthy one.

Here are some examples of saltwater aquarium plants that you can choose for your marine tank:

Halimeda or cactus algae are hardy saltwater aquarium plants and won't be fed on vigorously by most marine fish. It is also non-invasive so it won't damage nearby corals or invertebrates. It does need good light to grow in however as well as enough calcium for growth. Halimeda are sensitive to high nitrate and phosphate levels and don't like to be pruned.

Penicillus or "shaving brush" are saltwater aquarium plants that do a great job at absorbing excess nutrients like nitrates and phosphates from the water. They are usually not fed on by most fish and invertebrates except sea urchins. Plant the pencillus in the substrate and make sure the area is well-lit. If you add an iron supplement and trace elements regularly your pencillus should thrive. Pencillus has a hard calcium carbonate skeleton like halimeda an coralline algae and will do well across a range of conditions.

What about macroalgae? Macroalgae are saltwater aquarium plants that come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. They are to be found in a range of colors -- red, green, brown and blue. These saltwater aquarium plants are able to photosynthesize. This means they use a pigment called chlorophyll to make their own food for growth and other functions.

In general these saltwater aquarium plants get most of the nutrients they need from the water in the marine tank. These include nitrates and phosphates. This makes them good allies in keeping your tank clean. You will need moderate to strong light for the growth of macroalgae. The way to avoid macroalgae growing out of control is to control the environment in which it lives. This means the water chemistry and amount of available light.

So are there 'bad' saltwater aquarium plants? Certain kinds of algae can become problematic in a marine tank.

Bubble algae is one of the most common pest saltwater aquarium plants. Bubble algae forms green bubbles on any hard surface, for example live rock. It can occur in masses of bubbles or single or in small groups of big bubbles. The bubbles might be smooth or rough. Bubble algae look nice, BUT they aren't!

These saltwater aquarium plants grow fast and can take over your tank. Once you discover it the best thing to do is remove it and keep it under control. It can damage other plant species. You can usually remove it by hand. When you do, try not to break the bubbles as this might cause it to spread.

You can try to introduce certain types of fish like the Sohal Tang or Red Sea/Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang (Acanthurus sohal) to eat bubble algae. The best means of control, however, seems to be the "Emerald Crab". These crabs won't damage your corals but will eat the bubble algae. It is a good idea to learn about other such interactions between saltwater aquarium plants and herbivores as they might save you time and trouble in the future.

The emerald crabs are a great idea for the reef aquarium where they won't fight with other inhabitants. There are even coral farmers who use emerald crabs to control algae around their hard corals! So you can protect your saltwater aquarium plants by stocking some of these little helpers.

So what's your next step? Now that you know a little bit about the good and the bad kinds of saltwater aquarium plants, it's your job to make sure you learn more. Your local aquarist will be able to tell you more about which saltwater aquarium plants are most suitable for your tank, level of expertise and the other species you want to stock.

You can also do more research on the Word Wide Web, visit your local library or buy books on the subject. Don't ever buy your saltwater aquarium plants on a whim because you like the way they look. Always make sure you know as much about their nutrient, environment and lighting needs as possible. That way you can avoid making mistakes that cost time and money or even threaten the health of your tank in the long term.

Do choose saltwater aquarium plants that you find attractive as this is part and parcel of keeping a marine tank but never let your desires cloud your common sense. Once you have all you plants set up you will be able to enjoy the animal plant interactions that are so much a part of the marine ecosystem. The purpose of any aquarium is to provide both the fish and you with hours of pleasure and enjoyment. A healthy tank is a happy tank so do take the time to do your research.

Saltwater aquarium plants are very beautiful to look at and interesting to grow so make sure that you take the time to enjoy the plants in your tank. Find out if it is possible to propagate any of these plants from, how to increase or decrease their growth and what nutrients they need to stay healthy. Never share plants between aquariums unless you know they are 100% disease free and always put the health of your tank at the top of your list of priorities! Have fun and enjoy your saltwater aquarium plants! <bio>Finally, All The Information You Will Ever Need To Begin A Wonderful Love Affair With Fly Fishing!
Adding live plants to an aquarium does more than just improve aesthetics =96 plants provide shelter, food for vegetarian fish, and prevent green water. Plants also soak up carbon dioxide, waste products, contribute oxygen to the water, and promote the growth of algae, tiny worms, rotifers, and protozoa, providing live food for the fish.

Lighting is important if you want your plants to grow successfully. They need 12-14 hours of light each day, just like in nature. Opinions vary concerning how much light live plants need, but generally 3-5 watts per gallon works well. Compact fluorescent bulbs and par 20, 50-watt halogen bulbs both do the job right, so experiment with different types of lighting to find out what works best for your plants.

Plants also require the proper nutrients to stay healthy and green. Everything works together in a well-planned aquarium, so keeping the plants fed isn't a difficult prospect. Nutrients to feed the plants come from the fish in the tank - you can add more if needed. Fertilization is easy as well because plants are able to naturally use fish waste as fertilizer. You can add a commercial fertilizer when you change the water, but it's usually better to follow the "less is more" philosophy when it comes to fertilizing your plants. Too much fertilizer can cause problems with algae growth in the tank, and you can always add more if required.

What about water temperature? The majority of aquatic plants thrive in water temperatures between 72f and 78f. The pH of the water is also important =96 a pH of 6.8 to 7.8 is ideal.

Snails are another natural component that help the overall health of the aquatic environment. Snails clean plants of food and small algae, as they crawl over leaves and foliage. However, some snails can actually cause problems. Ramshorn, pond, and other species eat the leaves instead of clean them, and can cause unwanted damage. Luckily, it's quite easy to remove troublesome snails. Simply place lettuce leaves at the top of the aquarium to attract the snails =96 remove everything with a net once all the snails have assembled on the lettuce pieces.

Before placing new plants in your aquarium, rinse them thoroughly in warm water to remove any insects you don't want invading the aquarium. Healthy plants have solid roots and firm leaves, so this is what you should look for when purchasing aquatic plants. Avoid plants that give off a strange smell, especially bulbs, as this is an indication that the plant is not healthy and may not grow properly once placed in your tank.

Younger plants generally adjust better to transplantation, so keep this in mind as well. Although the plants you buy will need a period of time to adjust, and may lose some leaves, don't be alarmed. This is completely normal. To promote healthy new growth, just remove dead leaves as they appear, being careful not to damage the roots.

Aquatic plants make a beautiful addition to any aquarium and help keep the fish comfortable, healthy, and happy. <bio>Salty Supply provides quality aquarium products at http://www.saltysupply.com </bio>

Everybody understands the reason why most plants can be seen in many aquariums. Healthy plants and their lush are beautiful to look at when they are in an aquarium. They also create a natural setting in the aquarium.

Most of the fishes feel secure, less stressed and safe whenever they have plants to hide in. Some species of fish do not survive in an aquarium without any plants.

Aquarium plants will not only give the fishes a helpful shelter and make your aquarium look attractive but they can maintain the quality of the water as well. Plants and fish both exist on the wild and they will surely match well in your aquarium.

The wastes discharged by the fish contain compounds that are useful for the plant's nutrition. Therefore, the organic wastes can be contained in the plants instead of seeing them float in the water. The plants must be pruned regularly and the dead parts must be eliminated from the aquarium ASAP.

Not only that, the aquarium plants will also provide a shelter to many micro organisms which are useful for the ecology and environment of the aquarium. In addition, plants have also the capacity to inhabit the growth of ugly algae since algae and plants compete for similar nutrients.

Most species of fish will never reproduce in an aquarium without plants. This is because some species need plants for them to feel secured enough to reproduce, while other species need the leaves of the plants to place their eggs in. An abundantly planted aquarium will also enhance the survival growth of the fry especially if you want to increase the number of fry in a similar aquarium like with the adult fish.

However, we all know that plants rely too much to light and photosynthesis. An aquarium with no plants will only need little. But if you are planning to have an abundant number of plants in your aquarium, you will be required to put new lights. A fluorescent light will be better to your planted aquarium, make sure that they are made especially for aquariums.

If you are a beginner, the plant species that will be suitable for you are the Java Moss and the Java Fern. These are strong plants that can survive in water hardiness and pH values. They can even be placed in a brackish aquarium like the Molly aquarium.

Aquarium plants are very important to the survival of most fishes in the aquarium. It does not matter what aquarium plant you choose, the important thing is you know how to maintain your aquarium as naturally as the fishes and plants habitat. <bio>This content is provided by Low Jeremy.
Changing the water in your saltwater tank is important for a number of reasons. If you don't change it, algae will arrive in large quantities and that is harmful to both the plants and livestock in your tank. As the water becomes stagnant, its composition will change and thus your fish may suffer illness-like symptoms as all of the nutrients and chemicals they need become depleted. Therefore, changing the water in your tank no matter its size is a necessary task for the aquarium hobbyist.

First off, the idea that you should change all of the water in your tank is incorrect. All you need to do is change ten to fifteen percent of the water every two weeks, which adds up to a cumulative twenty to thirty percent change over the course of a month. Of course if you are having a major problem with algae or your fish are exhibiting signs of strange behavior and you discover it is because your water levels are off, then you may need to perform a 50% or 30% in one water change. But regular upkeep is different and it is unnecessary to change all of the water, just a portion so that the nitrate levels in the water are reduced which deters algae and helps your livestock. Why not change all the water all the time? Fish become acclimated to their environment, and a full on water change is a shift in the environment. Too many of these may be a shock to your fish, one which they will not survive.

Naturally you will have to brew your own saltwater, but this is no longer as complicated a process as it once was, thanks to one-step salt mixes created specifically for this purpose. Once you have the necessary water prepared, the next phase is to ensure your safety and that of your livestock by disconnecting the electricity from your tank. Attempting to perform a water change-over while live currents are flowing to your tank is extremely dangerous and there is no good reason to attempt it. Remembering safety comes first, do not proceed further until you are certain that all the power is off.

You will then remove ten to fifteen percent of the existing water. This is a great time to make sure that the filters, the inside glass of the tank, and pumps are cleaned of algae or other waste. Now you are ready to put the new water slowly into your tank, but before you do that you should make sure that the water is approximately the same temperature as the water already in the tank, or you may harm your fish by giving them a drastic temperature shock, which most fish do not respond well to.

You can check your power sources while they are off and make sure there isn't any waste or salt creep that has leaked into them. Essentially, when you replace your water is a very good time to clean every aspect of the aquarium, including changing mechanical filters, as you will then be ensuring the complete upkeep and not just small portions.

Now simply replace the lid, and turn the power back on, and you should see positive effects occur as your fish will be happier and your algae will not! <bio>Salty Supply offers the most premium aquarium supplies on the net.
A UV sterilizer uses an ultraviolet bulb to destroy harmful organisms, such as parasites, viruses, algae, and bacteria. An effective sterilizer, this device works wonders on aquarium water. It works so well that companies often use it to purify water on a larger scale, and to control algae growth in outdoor ponds.

If you have a home aquarium, chances are you already have several filtration units taking care of the water. A UV sterilizer is a good addition to an aquarium, although it should be the last stage of the filtration process. It's important that aquarium water passes through the mechanical filter before moving through the UV unit. The mechanical or canister filter removes solids so that any water that passes through the UV unit afterwards is cleaned with optimal results.

UV sterilizers continue to work well as long as the bulb wattage is sufficient and the bulb isn't too old. The efficiency of the device also depends on the cleanliness of the quartz sleeve and the flow rate of the unit.

The Bulb

As time goes by UV the bulb will start to lose its effectiveness, which is why you should replace it every 6 months. You can purchase bulbs between 8 watts and 130 watts =96 a higher wattage does a better job at cleaning the water. Devices with a lower wattage bulb require a lower flow rate to work well.

Flow Rate

The flow rate is also an important factor to consider - a slower flow rate is more effective at killing parasites, in addition to algae and bacteria. The flow rate is measured in either gallons per hour or liters per hour. A device with a 15-watt bulb has no problem controlling algae and bacteria at a 120 gph flow, but it won't kill parasites unless the flow rate drops to 75 gph.

Clean the Quartz

The quartz sleeve is located where the UV bulb fits into the device. A lot of people forget about this part of the UV sterilizer and fail to give it a good cleaning every once in a while. Cleaning removes buildup and ensures that the UV sterilizer continues to work at top capacity. More expensive sterilizers are designed with a wiper handle positioned outside of the device for fast and easy cleaning of the sleeve, without having to take everything apart.

Luckily, it's easy to find UV sterilizers these days, in local stores and online. These devices make a wonderful addition to any aquarium, but they come with a hefty price tag, especially when you factor in the cost of replacement bulbs.

Saltwater aquarium enthusiasts are more likely to purchase UV sterilizers because they improve the quality of the water and offer another layer of protection for expensive saltwater fish.

Although a UV sterilizer is not a necessity, many aquarium hobbyists do find that this device is effective at maintaining clean water and keeping fish and other aquatic life healthy and happy. It all comes down to personal choice and what works best for your aquarium. <bio>Salty Supply Provides quality Aquarium Supplies at http://www.saltysupply.com </bio>

begin. Below we have put together some of the best tips on how to create the best garden pond. Ask anybody who has a garden pond and they will tell you how much the pond has changed their garden. Not only does it provide a focal point for relaxing and enjoying your garden but it can also become a real haven for wonderful local wildlife. There are a few pointers to take into consideration that will ensure the success of your garden pond project

The Beginning It is important to really plan your pond project, so don't just rush out and start buying material and pond equipment without considering the best way forward. The first thing is to draw up a plan of your pond and how you would like it to look.

Pond Position The next step is to plan the best position within your garden for the pond. Point to consider include the amount of sunlight the pond will receive during the year (if the pond is subjected to strong sunlight, algae may be encouraged to grow), distance from the house and household members such as children and pets, position in relation to trees (constantly clearing out leaves is not much fun).

Pond material There are several different types of material which you may choose to create your pond from, ranging from UPVC to concrete. Make sure that you consider what you want from your pond and where it will be positioned and discuss this with a specialist pond provider company. They will be able to best advise which material to use.

Digging out the pond Check that there are no pipes or wires where you have decide to dig and then begin digging a hole in accordance with your plan. Remove any sharp stones or foreign debris which you might find. Think about creating shallower areas for wildlife and specific plants.

Fill the pond It is best to allow the pond to fill with rainwater naturally rather than filling it with tap water. This is because tap water contains minerals which may encourage algae growth. If you have to fill it with tap water then discuss this with a pond specialist who may be able to give advice on specific products to prevent this problem. <bio>Grange Aquatics have been in business for over 20 years and have a dedicated team of staff on hand to share their expertise in pond equipment and water features.
With over ten thousand different dietary supplements on the market, how do you know which one to choose? All of these products promise a slim, trim, body that is free of fat, but not all of them actually fulfill that promise. Instead, most of them fall flat when it comes to trimming away that fat.

The best way to choose the dietary supplements that will work for you is to understand how the human body absorbs supplements. Health and beauty products all work the same way once they are ingested. As the body breaks down each product, most of these products are destroyed by gastric acids.

Natural Collagen Colvita is different from all the rest of those dietary supplements, since this product actually swells while it is inside of the body. Why does this make a difference? As the Colvita swells, the body will absorb this natural product bit by bit. This is in large contrast to other products that are broken down right away.

Collagen that can be found within the body is a natural vessel for antiseptics. When the same collagen is ingested in the form of a pill, the antiseptics stay intact causing fat within the body to break down. All of this is possible thanks to the extensive testing of Colvita by engineers and specialists.

In addition to breaking down fat within the face, skin, and body, Colvita also helps hair grow. These dietary supplements work with your body in order to stimulate the tissue that is responsible for hair growth. The natural ingredients inside of Colvita are the main reason why this product works.

So, what's inside of Colvita? This dietary supplement contains fish collagen that has been freeze-dried in order to create a liquid form of collagen. Additionally, Colvita contains Fucus Vesiculosus, which is a type of algae that grows along the shoes of the British Isles.

Within each strand of algae there are numerous vitamins and minerals including vitamins B and C, beta-carotene, and numerous other natural substances. Colvita is a health and beauty product that helps to slow the aging process by reducing the amount of fat within the body, but there are other ways that Colvita can help keep your body healthy and youthful.

As we age, the collagen within our bodies begins to break down. This is precisely why skin begins to droop, sag, and lose muscle tone. Colvita helps the skin to hang on to that natural collagen by tightening, firming, and helping skin to gain back its elasticity.

This dietary supplement can also be used as a preventative measure for a number of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, cataracts, stomach ulcers, various sports injuries, dermatitis, and a number of other illnesses. Thanks to the numerous vitamins that are inside of Colvita, the body will be able to absorb and use all of these vitamins in order to fight numerous illnesses and diseases.

Colvita dietary supplements are full of vitamins and minerals that can help change the way you look and feel. Through the inclusion of natural ingredients such as fish collagen and algae, these dietary supplements work with your body rather than against it.<bio>Jerzy George (www.collagenelife.com) with over twenty years of experience in the beauty and antiaging industry is offering information and products oriented on the market's needs and which have the set of concurrent advantages, favourably separating them from the products of competitors.
Water bed owners are among the most loyal of mattress consumers. Water bed mattresses aren't right for everybody, but those who love them feel very strongly about them. Many people consider water bed mattresses to provide the ultimate ideal for comfortable sleep. To many people, there is nothing so soothing as being lulled to sleep by the gentle movement of their water bed mattress. Water bed mattresses are also long lasting and easy to use.

Water bed mattresses are very low maintenance, but there are a few simple maintenance steps you can do that can help lengthen the lifespan of your water bed mattress, as well as increase the comfort you can experience from your mattress. The most important components in the proper care of your water bed mattress are the periodic addition water bed conditioner to the water in your mattress and maintaining an appropriate water level in your mattress.

Water Bed Conditioner

Adding water bed conditioner to your water bed mattress periodically will prevent the water in your mattress from becoming stagnant. If conditioner isn't added as it should be, stagnation will result, and a bad smell originating with the stagnant water will emerge from the water bed mattress.

Failure to add conditioner to the water in your water bed mattress can also decrease the life span of your mattress. Deterioration of the mattress will accelerate as a result of algae growth within the mattress. Algae growth can result in hardening and cracking of the vinyl material from which the water bed mattress is made.

To maintain your water bed mattress, you simply need to add eight ounces of high quality, multipurpose water bed conditioner to the water in your mattress once every eighteen months. The best place to find high quality water bed conditioner is from a water bed dealer.

Proper Water Level Maintenance

Keeping the water level in your water bed mattress is an important part of proper water bed maintenance. Overfilling and under filling can both result in damage to your water bed mattress. A mattress that has been overfilled is subject to stretch out. As the vinyl stretches, pressure will be placed on the seams that can cause it to weaken.

Additionally, water bed frames are designed to support the weight of properly filled water bed mattresses. A water bed mattress that has been over filled weighs more than it should. Therefore, additional stress is placed on the water bed frame. When the water bed frame is under excess stress, its ability to properly support the mattress is diminished. Damage to the hardware that keeps the frame together also can occur as a result of excess water in the water bed mattress.

An under filled water bed mattress can result in excess stress being placed on the water bed heater that can cause it to overheat. An adverse effect of an overheated water bed heater is damage to the vinyl material that comes in contact with the heater.

One way to determine if your water bed mattress is filled to an appropriate level involves placing a broom handle across one of the corners of your water bed mattress frame. As the mattress begins to fill, watch the frame. You will know that it is time turn off the water supply when the handle lifts off the frame as a result of the expansion of your water bed mattress. This might not be the most scientific way to be certain your water bed mattress is filled to the correct level, but it is an easy and accurate way to be sure. <bio>Find more Helpful [http://www.mattressesonsalenow.com/] Mattress tips, advice (and Resources) Click Here: http://www.mattressesonsalenow.com A Popular website that specializes in Sources of Mattresses to include Mattress Cover, Full Size Mattress and [http://mattressesonsalenow.com/mattress-warehouse.html] Mattress Warehouse </bio>

Calcium is one of the most essential mineral needed to sustain life of a human body. Calcium has many functions like preventing the signs and symptoms of pre menstruation, reducing the possibility of hypertension, regulating muscle build up, strengthening the nerves as well and the most important use of calcium in the human body - maintaining strong bones and teeth. Adequate intake of calcium makes you free from the conditions like muscle spasms, absence of menstruation, hypertension, weak bones and teeth, improper heart function, disturbs the proper wound healing process and it slows down blood clotting. This is why you need to have adequate calcium intake everyday.

Aside from the human body, there are also things that need calcium. Would you believe that the aquarium needs it as well? If you continue reading this article, you will find out the use of calcium and calcium reactor in aquarium is crucial.

Calcium is not only needed by the body but the reefs as well. Calcium reactor is needed to maintain the calcium and alkalinity of the reef tank. You will need to maintain the right amount of calcium reactor in the reef to maintain its existence. The calcium reactor is needed for heavy stocks tank and stony corals because in this area calcium demands are increased.

Calcium reactor is also needed for the growth of many coralline algae. These coralline algae are very important part of the reef. The calcium reactor provides supply to the calcium by counteracting with CO2. It dissolves the media in the calcium reactor which releases the calcium in the water. The release of the calcium in the water stabilizes the pH level of the water. This is why calcium reactor is needed in water parts or in large aquariums as well.

If you are looking for a store where you can find calcium reactors, you do not have to worry about which one is to choose.
Reef keeping can be a delightful hobby, especially if you have the right balance of coral and fish to create a truly beautiful aquarium. You can go and buy a small tank to start off, but that is not always the best move. You might as well go and get the largest tank that will fit in the space you have available, so that you don't need to bother with upgrades. If you go small at first and then decide to go larger later, you will need to make changes in your lights, filtration system, everything really. So the cost for upgrading to a larger tank will be much more than just acquiring the larger tank later.

And your fish will need room to swim and to grow. If you get a small tank you will have small fish that aren't happy because they have no room. This may lead to aggression between your fish and that doesn't make for a good situation at all.

Once you have decided on your tank size, you will need to consider your filtration system, which is where bacteria live. You want bacteria because it breaks down waste. While you can go with mechanical filters, you could instead use a sand bed to mimic how it works in the ocean. This will cost less and work better, so it's a wise choice. Use three to four inches of a fine sand grain and then top it off with one to two inches of heavier sand to keep the lighter sand down.

Next are your rock formations. You will want to start off with figi because of its combination of shape and price, then you can select other rocks based on aesthetics. Between the sand bed and the rock formations, you will actually have created a natural filtration system which all of the critters you place in your tank will like and so will the bacteria you need.

Note that if you are starting with a new tank, you want uncured rock to help cycle your tank, but if adding to an established tank, make sure you used cured rock, so that your cycle is not interfered with.

The next thing to consider is your overflow system including your water pump, sump, and return tubing. You want to use an overflow box set, and a mag drive is a quality pump choice and you can use a tote for the sump. For the tubing you can just use PVC pipe, it's effective.

You need to have a water conditioning system to keep the water fresh for your livestock and to help prevent algae. The right ingredients include a protein skimmer, an RO TFC water filter, and an RO float valve kit.

Your lighting system is also important. You want a mix of two kinds of bulb: 10,000K white and 460 Actinic (blue) bulbs, and put them on a timer because you only want to keep your tank lit for ten hours a day in order to avoid rapid algae growth.

Now that you have your setup, you can go ahead and add your coral and fish, and enjoy your reef tank! <bio>Salty Supply offers the most premium aquarium supplies on the net.
