If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to or dependancy on alcohol, than I have one suggestion and one suggestion only: don't hestitate to get the alcohol treatment that is needed. It seems like people are not embarrassed about drinking alcohol until it gets to a level where they have a problem that requires attention and care. Then people seem to be filled with a lot of shame about their problems with alcohol.

I have been an alcohol treatment counselor for many years, and I am convinced that many of our problems with alcohol spring from the fact that we do not have an accurate view of just how harmful and addicting alcohol can truly be. In fact, most youth that are near the age of legal drinking have such a fascination and a wonder about drinking alcohol that is it no surprise that people quickly have problems with alcohol addiction. Because no one has taken the time to really teach the youth the potential problems they can have with alcohol, it makes sense that many of them get addicted and end up needing alcohol treatment.

Struggling with alcohol is something that is very treatable. You simply have to own up to the fact that you have a problem with drinking, however, or you will never be able to get help. My hardest clients are those that are forced into alcohol treatment and yet do not see that they have a problem that needs help. I've become convinced that a person addicted to alcohol or anything else must first admit that they are addicted and must honestly want help in order for help to be effective.

Realize that you do not have to remain in trouble with alcohol. There is freedom from your addiction. Will you ever be able to drink alcohol again? I don't know, but what I do know is that getting the alcohol treatment you need is really worth it when it comes to getting healed and enjoying a normal life. So take a serious look at your life and your future and decide whether or not getting alcohol treatment is something you should do.

Talk with your doctor, a counselor, or an alcohol treatment specialist to discuss your situation. See what course of action might be best for you or the one you love. I guarentee you that even though alcohol treatment might not be fun, it definitely is worth it. <bio>Julee Mitchelsin loves helping people by being an alcohol treatment counselor.
Many of us have problems with stress and this can sometimes lead to the misuse of alcohol.

If you have a situation that has led you to abusing alcohol and need some ideas to reduce the stress while avoiding using alcohol, Parts One and Two of this article may help.

A little bit of stress is good but too much stress is not. Sometimes we are so stressed out we turn to alcohol and at some point may realize we are having a problem with the overuse of it.

It may be time to think about stress and the effect it is having on you. You may need ways to deal with your stress while staying away from alcohol.

There are many possible problems with long-term stress. Alcohol use can intensify these problems even though the use of alcohol may seem to relax you at first.

The situation becomes difficult and even life-threatening when alcohol is used to an extreme and becomes an addition.

When you are dealing with too much stress you may find that you are having trouble sleeping. You may develop frequent headaches even if they have never been a problem for you before.

Constipation or diarrhea can become daily occurrences and you may also notice that you don't have the concentration you used to have.

A person who is under a lot of stress may experience a greater level of irritability.

Mix this with a moderate or high usage of alcohol and your stress level may become even worse. Your energy may drop off and you may feel sad at times or angry.

The use of alcohol in addition to the stress will not improve the situation.

Eating may become an issue and people often overeat and gain far too much weight or they may not be hungry, eat very little and become too thin.

People who live with too much stress can have high tension levels as well as a higher risk of asthma and arthritis flare-ups.

Depression and anxiety often accompany those who are dealing with too much stress.

When alcohol is used as a way to fix the problem other health issues may arise. Heart problems and high blood pressure can become factors.

Irritable bowel syndrome is another possibility and alcohol consumption certainly does not help this condition.

There are many other ways to handle too much stress. As you can imagine when alcohol is used to alleviate stress the problems may only multiply.

In the second part of this series we will give you healthier ways to handle stress. You can give up alcohol and find ways to make too much stress a thing of the past. You will feel better and be able to live a life free of alcohol. <bio>Discover how to stop drinking alcohol permanently, within 21 days guaranteed For more information go to:http://www.stopdrinkingadvice.org/ </bio>

When it comes to treatment for alcohol poisoning, there are some effective and not so effective always to treat this. Alcohol poising is a very serious condition that, when it comes on, can actually lead to death if not treated immediately. Therefore, getting help right way is essential.

What brings about alcohol poisoning? Drinking too much alcohol too fast. Generally speaking, the human body can only handle up to one glass of alcohol every hour, and obviously many people drink much more than this.

This is particularly true in colleges, where binge drinking is very prevalent, and therefore many people get alcohol poisoning annually.

Any time you drink too much too fast, you put yourself at risk of getting alcohol poisoning, which, even if it doesn't lead to death, can have very serious long term consequences. The reason for this is that your liver can only handle so much alcohol, because of the huge amount of calories it contains.

What amount of alcohol causes alcohol poisoning? Actually, this amount is different from person to person, and how much you can handle is entirely dependent on your physical stature.

If you think someone you are with has experienced alcohol poisoning and is unconscious, first attempt to wake them up by either saying their name or pinching them. If this doesn't work, be sure o flit them on their side because if they do throw up, this will prevent them from choking on their vomit.

Obviously, make sure somebody stays with them at all times, and of course, get help right away. When it comes to alcohol poisoning, there is no time to lose-even waiting fifteen minutes to a half hour can have a dramatic effect on their body, and may be he difference between life and death-that's how serious alcohol poisoning can be.

Obviously, once you've turned them over to professional help, there is little else you can do. However, her are some tips to help prevent his situation in the first place so that you hopefully will never have to worry about it.

First, try and drink no more than one drink per day if you are female, and two per day if you are male. This is a general rule of thumb that, if you stay under this amount, you will be safe from alcohol poisoning.

Some people can handle more, but you don't want to find out the hard way. Of course, even if you only drink one or two glasses per day, your liver is still put under at a tremendous amount of strain, and if you have a lifetime of drinking, it can lead to liver problems when you get older.

I'd highly recommend you cut out drinking altogether, and replicate it with a more resourceful habit, such as exercising, or something that takes your mind of your cravings.

Trust me, the health benefits down the road will be worth the pain it takes to give up alcohol.
When people are confronted with a problem with alcohol, denial and self control issues become a major part of the problem. People want to believe that they either do not have a serious problem or that they can control the problem on their own. The fact with alcohol addiction is that people have to recognize their problem and get help from people who are trained to deal with the issue. People who do these two things have the best success at fighting the problem of alcohol addiction.

There are many support groups and community programs that may be helpful to a person struggling with alcohol problems but one of the best courses of action is for a person to seek help from an alcohol addiction treatment center. Treatment centers for alcohol addiction have specially trained staff and the facilities best suited to address the alcohol addiction problem.

When a person with alcohol addiction begins treatment at a center for alcohol addiction the staff will be able to quickly identify all the factors that may contribute to the alcohol problems and they will be able to help the addicted person face the reality of their situation. The treatment staff is also able to help the family and friends of an individual to understand alcohol addiction and how they can best support the addicted person. The fight against alcohol addiction will be difficult but a treatment center will be a great way for an addicted person to understand and face the struggle.

Finding Alcohol Addiction Treatment Centers

When a person or their family recognizes the need for intervention with an alcohol addiction they may feel confused about where to get the best treatment. Finding an alcohol addiction treatment center can seem to be a difficult task but does not need to be. A great place to get information is from a personal physician or medical clinic. Physicians should have a lot of information regarding local treatment centers and will be very confidential in dealing with their patient. Local schools and health departments should also have information for alcohol addiction treatment centers.

The internet is also a great resource for alcohol addiction treatment centers. Doing a search of the topic will produce several treatment centers. When a person has found one or more center they are interested in they should ask for references and check with better business bureaus in the area to make sure the facility has a good reputation. <bio>Christopher Jay provides free and extremely helpful information on his content rich http://www.alcoholabusetips.com Home page.
Craving alcohol is a complicated process that involves several different factors. We are usually first introduced to alcohol at a young age (in our teens). Since no-one under the age of 21 (in the US) is allowed to purchase alcohol, it becomes "cool" and desirable for young adults under 21 to give drinking a try.

Later on people grab a bottle of booze to feel better, gain more confidence in a social setting or to forget about their problems. Since the alcohol makes them feel better, at least temporarily, they start to crave it.

Consuming alcohol on a regular basis also becomes a habit after a while, just like driving down a familiar road. If there is a problem, or a social setting that calls for alcohol, you may be grabbing that bottle of beer or glass of wine without even thinking about it.

This could eventually cause an alcohol addiction.

Once you get in the habit of drinking alcohol on a more or less regular basis, your body gets used to the alcohol in the blood stream and reacts with withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking. These withdrawal symptoms can range from mild to severe.

Is Alcohol Really Dangerous Or Addictive?

Yes, alcohol can be extremely dangerous. One of the most common diseases associated with alcohol addiction is liver cirrhosis, which causes liver cells to die and the tissue to harden as a result of drinking. It is by no means the only danger to your health.

Drinking can also lead to heart disease, stroke, dementia and brain damage, cancer (including liver cancer, colon cancer and breast cancer in women).

What Can I Do To Curb My Alcohol Cravings?

If you just crave the occasional glass of wine or beer, make sure you are aware of the craving and make a conscious choice to have a glass, or skip it. Don't let your cravings or emotions make the decision for you.

If you find yourself addicted to alcohol and are unable to not give in to the cravings, please seek professional alcohol addiction help. Alcohol addiction is very serious and the earlier you seek help and treatment, the easier it will be to kick the habit and take control over your alcohol cravings. <bio>Are cravings running your life?
Is there a difference between alcoholism and alcohol abuse? If so, what are the differences and is alcohol abuse a serious problem? Does alcohol abuse mean that a person needs to stop drinking?

There is a difference between alcoholism and alcohol abuse. When a person is dealing with alcoholism the craving factor is involved. There is a physical dependence on alcohol for the alcoholic and also a loss of control over the drinking itself.

Alcohol abuse is different because it is defined as a pattern of drinking that results in at least one of these situations during the course of a year:

Having a problem with fulfilling responsibilities or commitments at home, school or work.

Drinking while operating machinery or driving a car or any other situations that are physically dangerous. Continuing to drink even when relationships are falling apart or getting worse because of drinking.

Alcohol-related problems that end in recurring legal dilemmas such as driving under the influence or injuring someone because you were drunk.

Alcohol abuse is not the same thing as alcoholism but many of the effects of alcohol abuse are the same as those experienced by alcoholics. In either case it is usually a good idea to stop drinking and make an appointment to get some help.

There are signs that a person may have a drinking problem. If you sometimes feel guilty or bad about your drinking or feel that you should cut down on your drinking or stop drinking, you could have a problem.

Have there been times when others have irritated you or made you mad because they criticized your drinking habits? Maybe you sometimes have a drink first thing in the morning just to get rid of a hangover or to steady your nerves. These, too can be signs of a drinking problem.

If you are thinking that none of the signs listed in the paragraph above have anything to do with you that is good. A person can have a problem with alcohol and not experience those signs but sometimes their drinking is affecting their health, relationships, or job in other ways.

Alcohol abuse may be the root of any of these problems.

For those who are ready to take a look at how alcohol is affecting their lives, there is help. Many professionals are trained to handle people who are suffering from alcohol abuse or alcoholism.

There are programs designed for people of all ages who are dealing with alcohol problems.

It may be wise to start with your current health car provider. She will be able to answer your questions and offer ideas for help and support. There is no reason to feel you are alone in your search for help and guidance.

Alcohol abuse and alcoholism are serious problems. For those who are ready to understand, get treatment, and heal there is help available. <bio>Ed Philips is a writer for http://www.stopdrinkingadvice.org/ which is an excellent place on how to stop drinking, For more information go to:www.stopdrinkingadvice.org </bio>

The South Beach Diet continues to create its own name in many parts of the world. Along with its rapid widespread, many issues surrounding the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol came to surface. With this fact, the number of studies concerning the South Beach Diet and alcohol increases and as such, still many unanswered questions are left.

Speaking about the issue on the South Beach Diet and alcohol, it is commonly noted that the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol is best explained when referring to natural principle behind the South Beach Diet and alcohol. This simply means by looking to every detail mentioned in the South Beach Diet principles and relate it to the function of the alcohol in the diet.

The South Beach Diet in the first place is an eating plan that bears the principle for right carbohydrates and right fats for a healthy life. As such, the South Beach Diet is generally divided into three different phases. With this division, the existence of the somewhat bond between the South Beach Diet and alcohol becomes evident.

According to many studied, the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol is best explained when knowing that the South Beach Diet does not really favor the intake of alcohol in the diet. This explanation between the South Beach Diet and alcohol is in fact shown that during the first two weeks of the South Beach Diet, alcohol is not allowed along with other cookies and goodies. But many people that were given such explanation between the South Beach Diet and alcohol often question the real reason for such restriction. Well, the real reason for such restriction for alcohol in the diet holds that alcohol cause swings in blood sugar that make the South Beach Dieters hungry. This is in fact the purpose of the first two weeks of the diet -- to eliminate the dieters' cravings for food.

Along with such explanation for the relationship of the South Beach Diet and alcohol, another support is given that the alcohol is eliminated in the diet knowing that it has a high level of sugar will hinder the goal of losing weight for about eight to thirteen pounds.

Numerous studies conducted for the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol however shows that a moderate alcohol intake is not that really bad. It is for the reason that it help in slow stomach emptying, and therefore slows the rise and fall of blood sugar, which is the main goal in the South Beach Diet. However, in the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol, it is noted that an excess in alcohol intake doe turn into sugar and can be a diet buster.

So if you absolutely have to have one, it is then necessary to go for a low-carbohydrate version. Another study that shows the relationship between the South Beach Diet and alcohol have shown that hard alcohols have less potential to raise the blood sugar, though they certainly are not that virtuous.
Most of us have engaged in drinking alcohol at some point. It may have been to satisfy our curiosity, out of peer pressure, our 21st birthday bash, or just as part of a celebration. Alcohol can help us relax and enjoy what is taking place. There are those who consume alcohol in excess and too often. The result is it takes a toll on their life and their health.

The most commonly talked about effect of alcohol is on the liver. It can lead to serious health problems as the liver becomes inflamed. Symptoms that your liver has been adversely affected by alcohol include impotency in men, fatigue, no appetite, achey muscles, jaundice, vomiting of blood,

Consuming large amounts of alcohol puts you at risk for many health issues including cancer and diabetes. This is because alcohol depletes your body of the necessary nutrients. Most alcoholics don't eat a healthy diet either. The alcohol you consume remains in your bloodstream. In some severe cases alcohol can affect the memory and lead to brain damage.

It is never a good idea to consume large amounts of alcohol during pregnancy. Being pregnant takes enough of a toll on your body. The alcohol in your blood can lead to a miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and birth defects. Some babies are born addicted to alcohol because they have consumed so much of it in the womb. This is known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

There are many great treatment programs out there to help someone with an alcohol problem. The sooner they seek treatment the less severe the effects will be on their health. The damage to the liver and other effects can't be reversed. The internet and the yellow pages are great resources to help you find a solution.

If you are a parent, be sure that you teach your kid's responsible, healthy habits about alcohol and drinking. It's just not worth risking your health or life. <bio>Visit the Texas Residential Treatment Center and learn about their 12 Step Recovery Program for men - nestled in the peaceful Hill Country near Austin, Texas. http://www.markhoustonrecovery.com/ http://www.markhoustonrecovery.com/12step.php </bio>

With an estimated 14 million Americans into the bad habit of abusing alcohol or drinking to such an extent that they have become alcoholics there is no wonder that more and more marriages break ups are related to alcohol abuse or addiction. The breakdown of relationships due to excessive drinking is becoming an increasingly common marriage problem with the bad habit often leading to physical abuse.

Alcohol abuse or even worse alcohol dependence is a serious problem that can not only cause chronic health issues (such as liver damage, brain damage or, if you are pregnant, harm your unborn child), but can totally change a person's character with abusers more likely to become thoughtless or violent towards their partner or spouse. Alcohol abuse is one bad habit that you have to break!

Although alcohol abusers aren't physically dependant on alcohol they are far more likely to go that stage further and become alcohol dependant. Excessive consumption of alcohol causes or aggravates marriage problems, problems at work and problems with health. Alcohol abuse is a bad habit that can lead to financial issues, social issues and dangerous actions such as driving while under the influence. Alcohol abuse is one of those bad habits that can totally change a person's personality and lead to the abuser physically harming their spouse or child.

Like with many bad habits the earlier you break the habit of alcohol abuse the easier it is to stop, the less likely you are to destroy your marriage, harm your baby, ruin your health or lose your job.

Living with an alcoholic or an alcohol abuser is and ugly experience, full of fear resentment and hate. Most partners who break free from a marriage of three (husband, wife and booze), wish that they had done so years before. Alcohol abuse is one of those common marriage problems that can only be resolved through the action of the abuser and that is to kick the bad habit now, before it's too late to save your marriage, your family, your job and your life. <bio>Terry Ross is the author on and the creator of: http://www.commonmarriageproblems.marriagehealth.com/Break_Bad_Habits.html, a site dedicated to resolving marital conflict. </bio>

There are approximately 10 million alcoholics in the United States. On top of this staggering figure you can also add 20 million alcohol abusers. Most of these alcohol abusers are teens and college students. Figures show that 2 out of 3 adults use alcohol. It has been determined that over half of all suicides, accidental deaths and homicides are related to alcohol.

More than 10,000 young people were killed and 40,000 more are injured annually in accidents that involve drinking and driving.

As you can see the cost of using alcohol is high and these are just the human costs. Let's also add the cost of productivity and health expenses that occur because of alcohol addiction and abuse.

Financially these costs are estimated at more than 100 billion dollars per year. The financial costs are also high for those 1 out of 10 people who do seek help for their alcohol problem.

Besides the above costs there are many others that are associated with alcohol abuse and addition.

There are alcohol related automobile tickets and/or accidents. Blackouts can be a serious consequence of drinking. Depression often becomes a problem and relationships are damaged or completely ruined.

People often start drinking at parties or socially from time to time and then may progress to serious and problematic drinking.

There are people who are more at risk when it comes to alcoholism than others. Families who have members who are prone to having problems with alcohol should be especially careful when it comes to drinking.

While it may take years for alcohol to become a problem for some it may only take a fraction of that time for others.

Some signs that alcohol is becoming dangerous are: drinking excessively and often, making excuses for drinking too much, the loss of control and missing days of work because of alcohol.

People may have start drinking earlier and earlier in the day and they may also spend a lot of time drinking alone. The concerns of family members and friends go ignored and the preoccupation with drinking becomes more important than anything else. The person may be drinking and driving often.

When a person drinks too often and too much the alcohol depresses the functioning of the brain.

Some of the first things to become effected are emotions, judgment, and thought processes. When the drinking continues motor control takes a dive and the person experiences slurred speech, poor balance and slower reactions.

The costs of alcohol abuse and addiction are high and many suffer.

If you know someone who has a problem with alcohol abuse or addiction do everything you can to convince the person to get the assistance needed. Do not make excuses for the person or try to change the drinking problem.

Do give the person information about recovery and support groups. Find help and support for yourself if you are close to the person.

There are many problems associated with alcohol abuse and addiction. Add up the costs and see if it is worth it. <bio>Discover how to stop drinking alcohol permanently, within 21 days guaranteed For more information go to: http://www.stopdrinkingadvice.org/2007/03/08/problems-associated-with-alcohol-abuse-and-addiction/ </bio>

Many people drink alcoholic beverages at parties, bars, and sometimes at home to wind down after a long day of work. Alcohol in moderation can be fun and allow you to relax after a long day or week of work. However alcohol is also considered to be a "downer" type of drug, so you should not drink it if you are depressed. Drinking while you are depressed will usually just make you feel more depressed. You should only drink alcohol to have a good time or relax, but you should be careful and not drink too much, because it can cause many different problems in your life. The negative effects of drinking too much alcohol can be divided into short term effects and long term effects.

The negative short term effects of drinking too much alcohol are loss of judgment, loss of coordination, blurred vision, slurring of speech, and loss of balance. These negative effects can cause you to make bad decisions while you are drunk, and these effects are also the reason that you never want to drive when you have been drinking. If you drink too much alcohol you can experience some extreme negative effects. These include unconsciousness, coma, and even death.

Not only can drinking too much alcohol cause negative short term effects, but it can also cause negative long term effects.

These long term effects include loss of brain cells, liver failure, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer, epilepsy, nerve damage, and heart failure. Drinking too much alcohol is not a good idea, because as you can see it can cause serious problems in your life. If the abuse of alcohol does not cause immediate problems, then excessive use over a period of time can cause major problems down the line. Everyone deserves to have a drink now and then to relax if they want to, but alcoholism is a very serious problem that should not be taken lightly. <bio>Visit the Texas Residential Treatment Center to learn about their 12 Step Recovery Program: http://www.markhoustonrecovery.com/ </bio>

Insomnia is many times mistaken for a sleep disorder, when in fact it is basically a complaint about the difficulty of falling asleep, trouble staying asleep or unrestorative sleep. There are many reasons that people suffer from insomnia and there is usually an underlying clue to determine the cause of the problem.

Insomnia resulting from alcohol is one of the problems that can be eliminated. Most people think that drinking alcohol is comparable to a sedative, but actually it may put you to sleep for a few hours only to wake you up in an alarming state. Alcohol insomnia will then make you restless throughout the remainder of the night. A nightcap before bed will have the same effect; however, you may have a quick nap and then a fitful sleep throughout the rest of the night.

Combating Alcohol Insomnia

An individual who is very stressed may use alcohol as a way to calm the anxiety they are suffering from. This eventually turns into a cycle and the pattern of alcohol insomnia will begin to take effect. Two or three hours of sleep and then wakeful, tossing nights, usually with vivid alarming dreams is what alcohol insomniacs are accustomed to. Eliminating the alcohol before bedtime is the key factor in reducing alcohol insomnia.

Teaching the individual different ways in which to handle his anxiety before bedtime is very important. Sleep disorder behaviorists call this proper bedtime hygiene. In other words, preparing the brain and body for sleep is the proper bedtime hygiene. Eliminating alcohol from an individual's diet or at least limiting it to one cocktail or glass of wine before dinner will begin the process of proper bedtime hygiene. The process will go deeper to find out the reason behind the anxiety. Sometimes it is just a transient sleep insomnia, which means that an individual is stressing over an upcoming job review or wedding or some other similar event in their life. This stress will pass soon, but anxieties for other people reach much deeper into their souls.

Some individuals have inner conflicts, fears and phobias which can only be resolved with proper psychiatric counseling. These people will use alcohol as a crutch to help them sleep and in fact are only making their alcohol insomnia worse. Convincing these people that they do indeed have a serious anxiety that needs psychological counseling and not alcohol to remedy their troubles is their first step in reducing their alcohol insomnia. http://www.about-sleep-disorder.com <bio>http://www.about-sleep-disorder.com </bio>

Being diagnosed with high blood pressure can leave you confused and overwhelmed. How can something that you don't even feel affect you so much? For many the diagnosis comes as a surprise and is quickly followed by feelings of vulnerability. It can feel as though no matter what you do you are somehow at the mercy of this silent predator.

But as you educate yourself, you begin to find that you have more control over the situation than you might have thought. Your doctor will surely discuss with you the positive impact that a healthy diet and exercise can have on high blood pressure. And you'll undoubtedly be told to quit smoking if you are hooked; as well as cutting down on caffeine and managing stress.

But what you may have also been told is that excessive alcohol and high blood pressure do not mix. While alcohol in moderation is acceptable, too much can serve to exacerbate hypertension. Alcohol and high blood pressure has been studied extensively be researchers who have found that if you enjoy a drink now and then, try to limit your consumption to one or two drinks a week. Red wine is, by far, the best choice as its properties have a variety of health benefits.

Certainly many people enjoy having a few drinks at the end of a long and stressful day to help them unwind. And often this can have a positive impact on blood pressure. But when alcohol and high blood pressure combine aggressively =96 as when too much alcohol is consumed =96 then the results can be far from positive.

Additionally, if it is found that you require medication to control your hypertension then alcohol should be severely restricted, if not eliminated all together. Medication and alcohol do not mix on any level; alcohol can complicate the effects of medication, if not render it useless. Be sure to check with your doctor about instructions regarding alcohol and high blood pressure.

Blood pressure can be successfully managed with a commitment to changes in lifestyle and consistent medical guidance. Understanding alcohol and high blood pressure =96 along with the other factors that can affect your blood pressure - can ensure a lifetime of health. <bio>For easy to understand, in depth information about high blood pressure visit our ezGuide 2 http://highbloodpressure.ezguide2.com </bio>

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is an extremely serious traffic violation in Florida. It results in a felony conviction in most cases, and if you are convicted of a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) you will most likely be arrested and penalized, which can require that you seek assistance from a Florida alcohol treatment center in your area. Alcoholism is the cause for many deaths all over the world, but if you seek treatment before something bad like this has a chance to happen, not only will you save your own life, but potentially countless other lives as well.

Florida alcohol treatment is designed for people that have come under uncontrollable and heavy influence of alcohol or any other type of intoxicating substance such as drugs. Florida is definitely an ideal location when it comes to alcohol treatment because of its obvious proximity to the beach, as well as the presence of plenty of excellent florida alcohol treatment and rehabilitation centers in the area. Florida alcohol treatment programs are not difficult to find if you are serious about locating a solution for your addiction to alcohol, but what you do need to consider is the fact that not every Florida alcohol treatment program and center is going to be created equally.

There is no one size fits all solution to drug or alcohol addiction, so it is vital that you take the time to really look around and weigh different options before you completely commit yourself to one program over another. What this means is that you should consider the following things when choosing a Florida alcohol treatment program in your area:

- What are your individual needs when it comes to a Florida alcohol treatment program or center? Are you looking for something long term, short term? There are inpatient treatment programs and outpatient treatment programs as well. Which one will work best for you?

- What kind of Florida alcohol treatment programs are available in your area? There are luxury programs that offer rich amenities, and there are also programs that are a little more clinical in nature. Your individual needs are what really matters when it comes to choosing an alcohol rehabilitation program in Florida so choose wisely.

- If you want to get a good feel for what types of rehabilitation programs are out there for alcoholism, it would be wise to ask around and get some referrals to check out before you do anything else. Simply choosing the first name that you find in the phone book isn't really wise, because you have no idea what that particular Florida alcohol treatment center is going to be like. On the other hand, if you ask friends or family members who have been through the process already, you might get some excellent feedback regarding which treatment centers are and are not worth your time and money.

The decision is ultimately up to you regarding which alcohol treatment program you assign yourself to in Florida. Just keep in mind that making the right decision will impact whether or not you are successful in overcoming your addiction.<bio>Troy McCormick is a freelance writer for The Recovery Place, the top alcohol treatment center in florida. This situation happens when somebody drinks too much in too short a time period, and as result their liver cannot digest the alcohol quickly enough.

You see, alcohol is extremely hard for the liver to process, which is the main reason it's so harmful to the health when drunk too much. Especially when drunk too fast, alcohol can be deadly.

Eventually, the heart rate will slow down, as well your breathing and your blood pressure will drop. How much alcohol is too much?

A general rule of thumb is that you should not drink more than one glass every 2 hours, because this is the time period it takes for your liver to properly digest the alcohol. If you drink more than this, you are at risk of getting acute alcohol poisoning.

Unfortunately, many people die from alcohol poisoning each year, as it is a very deadly thing that should be taken very seriously. It does so by alternating your bodily functions I just described, and slowing them down to the point where you pass out, and often times will die if not treated immediately.

Binge drinking has contributed to the deaths of alcohol poisoning immensely, as this is where people essentially go out drinking for the sole purpose of getting drunk, and therefore they drink many glasses in a short period of time to make this happen. Usually, getting drunk is the only thing that will come of it, but on some occasion, it can result in acute alcohol poisoning.

If you do make it through the process, you very often will need to have your stomach pumped in order to eliminate the excess alcohol, and sometimes may experience long term mental affects from the poisoning.

What should you do if somebody you know is experiencing acute alcohol poisoning? First of all, you need to know the symptoms to look for. if they've passed out, they very likely may have experienced it, or if their skin turning blue and is cold.

Other things to watch out for include slow speech, the inability to stand up or walk comfortably, erratic behavior, etc. Obviously, some of these symptoms aren't a guarantee of alcohol poisoning, but certainly should put you on the alert.

However, if they are passed out, absolute call for help immediately. While you are waiting for the ambulance, make sure to lay them on their side so that they don't choke on their own vomit, if they do throw up in between the time you call and the ambulance gets there.

Once you've done this, the situation is pretty much out of your hands. Hopeful these tips will help you know hat to look for, an then do, if someone you know is experiencing acute alcohol poisoning.<bio>To learn more about acute alcohol poisoning, how to treat it and how to avoid it, check out http://www.endsmokingandalcoholism.com.
When an alcoholic tries to quit drinking, he can expect unpleasant withdrawal symptoms to go along with purging of the alcohol from the body. These symptoms can get really painful and a person experiencing it may have to undergo an alcohol withdrawal treatment.

* What Is an Alcohol Withdrawal Treatment and Where Does One Get It?

The person is likely to experience withdrawal symptoms during the first few days of depriving the body of alcohol. These symptoms are common side effects of the detoxification process. And because these side effects are often painful and dangerous, rehabilitation clinics use painkillers and sedatives as part of the alcohol withdrawal treatment, to help the patient cope. Medical professionals working in rehab centers and clinics administer these treatments.

* What Are the Usual Withdrawal Symptoms of Alcoholics?

Withdrawal symptoms will vary from one person to another. It may take a few days or a few weeks. This will depend on how the long the person has been dependent on alcohol and how dependent he has been. The most common withdrawal symptoms are headaches, nausea, anxiety and insomnia. This can be treated by mild sedatives. The more extreme symptoms include convulsions, seizures, delirium tremors and high blood pressure attacks can be treated with painkillers and stronger sedatives. It is important that a person detoxifies in place where he can access alcohol withdrawal treatment preferably somewhere nearby his or her other half.

* Alcohol Withdrawal Treatments beyond the Detox Stage

A reformed drinker's greatest task after the rehab stage is to keep sober. This is not an easy task and it requires vigilance on the part of his family and friends and even medications to help him sustain an alcohol free life. Unlike medications administered in an alcohol withdrawal treatment, these medications will make the person fill ill when they ingest alcohol and control their craving. <bio>You Are About to Know What Alcoholic Must Know about alcohol withdrawal treatment.
There are ways to recognize people who have alcohol problems. If you are concerned about your drinking habits or those of someone close to you, here are a few ways to determine if alcohol is indeed a problem:

If you are a woman who has more than seven drinks a week or more than three drinks at a party, bar or celebration, you may be drinking too much.

The same is true for a man who has more than 14 drinks a week or more than four drinks at a party, bar or celebration. For those over 65, more than seven drinks a week or three drinks per occasion could mean you are drinking too much.

Think that you or a loved one or friend may be in the drinking heavily category?

If you are a woman who is drinking more than three drinks every day or 21 drinks per week, the answer is, "yes." Men who consume more than five drinks a day or thirty-five a week also fit into the drinking heavily category.

Maybe you are concerned about the risks you or someone who is close to you is taking when you drink. Those who drink and drive are taking risks with the consumption of alcohol.

If you operate heavy machinery or mix alcohol with medications, either over-the-counter or prescription medicines, you are putting yourself and others at risk.

When you don't tell your pharmacist, doctor, or surgeon that you are a regular drinker, you are taking risks with alcohol. Did you know that even small amounts of alcohol can be dangerous for an unborn child?

If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, you are taking risks every time you drink and even if you are not putting yourself at risk, you are putting your baby in a precarious and dangerous situation.

Drinking has become a habit when you or a loved one uses alcohol to relieve anxiety, relax or to get to sleep. The use of alcohol has become a habit if you consistently drink so that you will feel more comfortable in social situations.

When drinking is used as a way to avoid thinking about unpleasant or sad situations, it may have become a habit. The same is true if you spend quite a bit of time socializing with other drinkers.

There may come a time when the consumption of alcohol begins to take over your life. One sign that this is happening is if you worry about having enough alcohol for the evening or the weekend.

If you hide alcohol or purchase it at various stores so that people won't know how much alcohol you are consuming you may have reached the point of having alcohol take over your life.

When you are at a social gathering do you try to avoid letting others know how much alcohol you are drinking? Do you attempt to get extra drinks and hope that others will not see you doing it?

If you fit into any of the above categories, it may be time to talk to a doctor or other professional about your alcohol consumption.

There are also self-help and support groups that can offer assistance. Do not feel that you are alone or that you can not stop drinking. The misuse of alcohol can lead to ruined health, the end of relationships and other serious consequences for you and for others. <bio>Discover how to stop drinking alcohol permanently, within 21 days guaranteed For more information go to:http://www.stopdrinkingadvice.org/2007/04/02/ways-to-recognize-problem-d= rinking/ </bio>

The consumption of alcoholic beverages dates back to the beginning of time. Unfortunately some of us are affected by the excessive consumption of alcohol in a very negative way. Hence the problem of alcohol abuse which has disrupted lives, societies and civilizations over the generations..

In today's society consuming alcohol has become the norm and when consumed in moderation, it can be a relaxing tonic. Many people come home from a hard day of work and unwind with a drink. How do you know, though, when that relaxing drink has taken over your life? How do you know when you become dependent on it? Alcohol abuse in today's society is becoming a serious problem. In the past people used to believe that alcohol abuse was a characteristic of a weak person, but now it is known that it is really a serious disease that has a chance of affecting us all.

Statistics on Alcohol Abuse

A surprising statistic is that 1 in 13 adults is affected by alcohol abuse. The online health guide, WebMD reported that in the United States alone, 12 to 14 million adults suffer from alcohol abuse and each year, around 100,000 adults will die from alcohol abuse. It has also been proven that alcohol abuse is a large factor in contributing to the country's car accidents, suicides and homicides. Alcohol also affects many other things in daily life, including increased rates of job absenteeism, and increased reports of domestic violence and child abuse.

What are the Signs of Alcohol Abuse?

Occasional drinks at home or with friends does not mean that you have a problem with alcohol. As a guideline:

- in women, a key indication that there is a degree of alcohol abuse is if you consume more than seven drinks a week and more than three in a social gathering.

- In men, the rate of consumption would have to equal more than 14 drinks per week or anexcess of four drinks while with friends.

Other signs include:

- alcohol cravings, - a loss of control when drinking, which leads to the person unable to stop drinking. =96 - Tolerances built up to alcohol can be another sign of alcohol abuse, - physical dependence on alcohol, such as nausea, sweating and headaches if no alcohol is consumed.

Scientists are discovering that many other factors are involved with drinking, such as family history of drinking, family genetics toward drinking, stress levels, and social and environmental factors.

Alcohol abuse is a very serious disease that is escalating all over the western world. It is a treatable disease, but is difficult to cure and it can affect anyone. Many factors make people more susceptible to it than others. Whilst many people drink and enjoy themselves in moderation, it is important that we all hear the message and keep our consumption to recognized tolerable levels.

Unfortunately modern society has raised the spectre of alcohol consumption to levels of absurdity as the fashion of Binge Drinking has become the norm amongst many of the young. This bad influence can only lead to more and more of us suffering from alcohol abuse. <bio>Author's Biography: Paul Courtney contributes articles to various publications pertaining to Alternative Medicine, herbal Medicine for more information on alcohol treatment please visit http://www.notoalcoholabuse.com </bio>

First off, when attempting to get off alcohol or drugs, be advised that medical personnel should always monitor any kind of detoxification in order to provide prompt and educated aid to those striving to rid their bodies of the effects of chronic alcohol and drug abuse. An alcohol detox program is only the first of many steps that alcoholics will take on the long road to recovery.

Withdrawal is the first process that an alcoholic must take to begin the cleansing process that will ultimately remove all traces of alcohol from their body systems. With alcoholism or drug abuse, the body becomes dependent on those drugs or alcohol, and during an alcohol detox, withdrawal is the process by which drug or alcohol induced toxins are exorcised from the body. It isn't easy, and many people aren't mentally or physically prepared for the process. But with an alcohol detox program, that's only the first step. The next step, therapeutic and emotional counseling, are only begun after the person has completed the alcohol withdrawal process. Some well meaning people try to skip to the second step first, but such an endeavor is useless, as any remnant of alcohol in the body will continue to induce cravings for it, thereby defeating any and all arguments to the contrary.

The term, alcohol detox, is officially defined as the period of time it takes someone to overcome his or her physical dependence and need for alcohol. In an alcohol detox rehab center, this process is carefully and closely monitored by trained medical personnel experienced in dealing with the moods and temperaments of alcoholics on the road to recovery. The end goal of an alcohol detox program is to free the alcoholic of the addictive effect of alcohol on their body, in addition to helping them get through that most difficult process as pain free as possible. An alcohol detox center will offer expert guidance and advice to those wishing to enroll in their program and to help people get a good start on the road to a long-term recovery. For the most part, an alcohol detox program is completed within an in-patient, medical type setting so that patients can be closely monitored and helped.

Experiencing alcohol detox isn't pleasant and can produce symptoms that express both physically and emotionally. Many who have completed an alcohol detox program claim the experience, though necessary, was traumatic and withdrawal from alcohol or drugs can produce both physical and mental manifestations that range from mild to alarmingly severe. That's why it's so important for people to go through an alcohol detox process in a licensed facility with fully trained medical staff on hand to oversee the process. Some people experience headaches, the 'shakes', vomiting, insomnia and even delirium tremors, more commonly known as the 'DTs' and even seizures. Supervised alcohol detox is recommended, especially since one in four patients may experience severe withdrawal symptoms like seizures and convulsions.

An alcohol detox program can take within three to seven days in most cases, and then the rehabilitation process begins. It's not an easy battle, but with the help of an alcohol detox program, a person has a high chance of not only a healthy recovery, but also a less stressful one. <bio>Need to know more about alcohol detox?
One of the problems with excessive drinking is the possibility of alcohol poisoning.

While there are people who think that a high school or college student who is stumbling around in a drunken stupor is funny, it may be a serious problem. Alcohol poisoning can be deadly.

There are many dangers that exist concerning alcohol poisoning.

Tragedies happen because people do not know what to do in these situations or even the signs to look for.

Some people think that a person who has had too much to drink should just take a cold shower, drink some coffee or walk or sleep it off. None of these things work, the only thing that does work is time and a person who has alcohol poisoning may not have this luxury.

When a person drinks the alcohol depresses the nerves that control involuntary actions. These actions, like the gag reflex and breathing can be stopped if a person drinks too much.

Someone who has had too much to drink may vomit because the alcohol irritates the stomach. If that person chokes on the vomit they may die because they are not conscious. A person's blood alcohol concentration may keep rising even after the person has passed out. This can also lead to death.

If you are in a situation where there is a possibility of someone having alcohol poisoning here are some critical signs to watch for:

Vomiting Mental confusion, stupor, a person who can't be roused, coma Irregular breathing Bluish skin color or paleness that can signify hypothermia Seizures Slow breathing

Any of these signs can mean that you need to take action. There have been many cases where people have waited too long to call 911 or have assumed that the person will be all right after they sleep it off.

All of the symptoms do not need to be present for there to be a serious and life threatening problem and any person who has passed out from drinking could die.

When a person has alcohol poisoning and does not get the treatment they need there are several things that can happen.

The person may experience slower breathing which can become irregular and then stop all together.

A person who has alcohol poisoning and goes untreated may choke on his own vomit.

Sometimes severe dehydration occurs and the person will have seizures, permanent brain damage or may die. If a person who has alcohol poisoning is not helped her heart may beat irregularly or stop beating.

Hypoglycemia, which is too little blood sugar can lead to seizures.

Alcohol poisoning is a serious situation and one that needs to be handled with care. Don't assume a drinking buddy will be O.K. after he has stopped drinking and passed out. Know the signs and know what to do. <bio>Ed Philips is a writer for http://www.stopdrinkingadvice.org/ which is an excellent place on how to stop drinking, For more information go to:www.stopdrinkingadvice.org </bio>
