The technique dates back at least 2,500 years. The practice of acupuncture involves inserting needles into meridian points on the body. Manipulation of the needles is believed to promote health by balancing the opposite forces of 'yin' and 'yang.' Yin and yang flow along energy paths in the body. This 'chi' energy is sometimes calle Qi. Acupuncture is believed to clear natural blockages of this energy as it flows throughout the body.

How Can Acupuncture Help Me?

The verdict is still out on the results of the scientific study of the beneficial effects of acupuncture. However some western medical practitioners will agree that there are certain conditions that acupuncture is good as a helping therapy. It is particularly useful in treating against nausea and pain and nausea. Acupuncture can help to treat chronic pain, nasea, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, menstrual pain, headaches, arthritis, repetitive strain injuries, asthma and some addictions.

Acupuncture should be used a part of a comprehensive health management program. Check with your doctor to see what negative repercussions could be encountered. As a warning, acupuncture is not recommended for all types of illnesses. Some conditions may actually increase the risk of using acupuncture, for example breast implants, drugs, pacemaker, and pregnancy.

Back in 1972 most people in the USA had never heard of acupuncture or any of the Traditional Chinese Medicine practices. But President Richard Nixon's visit to China to visit Chairman Mao in 1972 changed that. His visit cracked open the door to China for most Americans. For the first time American reporters covered ancient Chinese practices that fascinated our western mindset.

Some doctors refer to acupuncture as quackery based on folk medical practices and mysticism. Believers in acupuncture run the full range of people that buy into the whole flow of energy concept fully to those that just believe that acupuncture is a good therapy for pain management. <bio>Gisela Harris owns http://www.AcupuncureI.com a resource directory of acupuncture and alternative health resources on the internet. </bio>

Acupuncture Therapy

Chinese medicine is responsible for a number of natural therapies, and acupuncture is probably the best known of them. Basically, acupuncture works on the theory that your body contains energy centers at specific, strategic points. These energy centers are then linked to a particular part of the body. If you have a sore knee, for example, then the acupuncturist would locate the energy center links to that knee. This could well be located in a completely different part of the body. That's the point where very thin needles are then inserted to stimulate the energy center. The result? The pain in your knee is reduced or removed entirely, by accessing the central nervous system through the acupuncture point.

Acupuncture is used to treat many conditions, but pain relief is the most common. It's an odd concept - inserting needles into your body to reduce pain! But plenty of people find acupuncture. It's believed that as well as stimulating energy centers, acupuncture stimulates the production of endorphins, known as andquot;feel goodandquot; chemicals, which also helps reduce the pain.

Other research has shown that acupuncture can assist the immune system by stimulating the production of white blood cells. It's also been shown that Alpha, Beta and Gamma Globulins increase after acupuncture therapy, and these assist in fighting infection and producing immune antibodies. Recently, acupuncture has been used to assist people recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. Acupuncture focuses on reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms, tension, and inducing a feeling of relaxation.

Sports people at the highest level have turned to acupuncture therapy to help improve both their training and performance. Muscle tension inhibits performance, and acupuncture releases tension in both muscles and the surround tissue, as well improving the efficiency of the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. Acupuncture can also be used to speed up recovery rates from injury and manage pain.

Allergies also respond well to acupuncture therapy. Harmless substances can cause the immune system to overreact, leading to an allergic reaction. Many allergies are triggered by common environmental factors such as dust, pollen and chemicals. Many people also suffer from food allergies, which can be triggered by wheat, milk and shellfish, amongst other things. Allergies are uncomfortable - stuffy nose, watery eyes and sneezing. In some sufferers, allergy reaction can result in extreme symptoms such as kidney problems, joint pain and depression. Detoxifying the body and strengthening the immune system with acupuncture helps reduce or eliminate allergic reactions.

Many people turn to acupuncture therapy for more serious issues, such as bronchitis, asthma, hypertension and ulcers. Western medicine struggles to understand how acupuncture manages to be so effective, but the results speak for themselves. Some suggest that believing acupuncture will work is the reason it does, but that hasn't been proven. Sometimes, for more chronic conditions, massage and herbal remedies are used together with acupuncture therapy.

Other health issues that often respond well to acupuncture include PMS, chronic fatigue syndrome, stress, menopause and menstruation problems. If you're interested in trying acupuncture therapy, find yourself a reputable local practitioner, then ring and have a chat with them about your health problems. This will give them the opportunity to say whether or not they think acupuncture can help you. The only way to know for sure is to give it a go. <bio>Steve Dolan is an active athlete who uses acupuncture therapy to treat various conditions.
Acupuncture is a method that originated in China over 5000 years ago. It is a holistic practice that is based on the belief of releasing blocked energy or "chi" in living beings. These energy lines circulate through twelve invisible energy lines known as meridians of the body. Each meridian is associated with a different organ system in your body so the needle insertions in each of these meridians reduce the respective disease associated with that meridian point.

What acupuncture can do?

Usually people suffer from diseases when energy gets blocked in the meridians. When the needles are inserted into the specific points along the meridian lines, the balanced flow of energy is restored. Acupuncture works effectively because the needles stimulate the release of pain-relieving endorphins into the body, influences the release of neurotransmitters and also enhances the working of autonomic nervous systems. By influencing the electrical currents in the body, acupuncture also improves blood circulation throughout the body.

School of acupuncture therapy

School of acupuncture therapy provides acupuncture-training courses to all practitioners. Sometimes the needles are electrified to produce better results. This also helps in curing smoking, alcoholism and drug addictions.

Other unique acupuncture treatment offered by acupuncture schools

Needle-less acupuncture includes techniques like Moxibustion, Soft Laser Therapy, Cupping Therapy, and Ultrasonopuncture.

1. Sujok Acupuncture -- the acupuncture schools offers this unique technique where the expert uses only his hands and legs. He inserts microscopic needles into the points or even a sesame seed and small magnets that relieve the patients instantly.

2. Acutron Mentor Acupuncture -- this is one of the most advanced techniques that use electro curative apparatus that offers micro current therapies and interferential current through the needles. It is advantageous because it can be used for pain management and treating all types of diseases.

Special training methods of acupuncture NYC

Other significant acupuncture treatments are offered by Acupuncture NYC [New York City] center.
When therapists and enthusiasts are asked about the effectiveness of acupuncture for endometriosis the topic of pain relief often comes up. This is because endometriosis pains are so varied and differ wildly from woman to woman.

Endometriosis is often difficult to treat even with today's advanced pain medication. According to acupuncture therapists and enthusiasts, however, although acupuncture will not treat endometriosis entirely, it can help relieve the pain that comes with the disorder.

Women who suffer from endometriosis often report severe abdominal cramps, a feeling of heaviness especially in the pelvic area, and disabling, crippling pains in the lower back.

This is because endometriosis involves the migration of endometrial tissue normally found in the uterus, to other parts of the body. Each month as hormonal changes encourage the tissues to swell and then shed, instead of being expelled as menstruation, the blood and tissue lodge in various organ systems, causing internal bleeding, intense pain and even disruptions in normal bodily functions.

Because the cause of endometriosis is unknown, it is difficult to treat with only one form of therapy. Physicians will often recommend various drugs, including those that can help manage pain, and those that can lower the levels of estrogen in the body. Acupuncture contributes to therapy by allowing patients to relax better, and to deal with pain more effectively without resorting to medication.

If you are suffering from endometriosis and do not want to take more medications to relieve your pains, then you may wish to consider acupuncture.

Acupuncture makes use of tiny needles inserted into strategic parts of your body, with the aim of redirecting the universal energy field, called chi. When redirected, chi can allow you to be healthier and more relaxed. With greater relaxation, you can perhaps learn how to handle your pain better.

Before you go to an acupuncturist, however, you will need to consult with your doctor first about what other therapy options are available to you. This is especially advisable if you have a fear of needles, or if you are highly skeptical about acupuncture. If you do undertake acupuncture therapy, however, then these tips can help in your search for an acupuncturist.

=95 Ask your physician for referrals. Many obstetricians and gynecologists will be in touch with acupuncturists who offer relaxation or pain relief therapy. These acupuncturists will also be licensed and legal, so you can be sure that you are receiving treatment from a qualified practitioner.

=95 Join an email group or forum for people suffering from endometriosis, and ask around about acupuncture therapy. There will most likely be people present who have undergone the therapy to deal with their own endometriosis-related pains, and they can offer you tips on where to go, who to see, and what to do.

=95 When you arrive at the acupuncturist, ask as many questions as you can. This is a good way to do research on acupuncture. Besides, a good, licensed acupuncturist will be happy to answer your questions, offer reassurance and be more than willing to help you. Try and find a practitioner who has knowledge and experience of dealing with endometriosis.

=95 Share your good experiences with members of your email group or forum. You can help other endometriosis sufferers in dealing with their own conditions.

Discover more information on natural alternatives for treating endometriosis by signing up to the newsletter below.

For those who practice acupuncture, endometriosis is not necessarily easy to treat. The many pains can blind patients to the possibility of being able to deal with the difficulties of the disorder. However, with positive experiences, and with more acupuncture for endometriosis therapy sessions, the pains of endometriosis may lessen significantly. <bio>Sign up for Shelley Ross' free Endometriosis newsletter - Overflowing with easy to implement methods to help you discover more about acupuncture endometriosis at http://www.treatendometriosis.com?source=is </bio>

Acupuncture has a long and glorious history in the Eastern world. Its been applied for centuries in the treatment of an endless variety of ailments, diseases and conditions. From painful periods to the common cold; from insomnia to hypertension; furthermore its application in fertility treatment is now widely accepted as a viable opportunity for both male and female.

Is Fertility and Infertility Treatment A Recent Use For Acupuncture?

Well, the simple answer is no, it isn't. You see, Acupuncture treatments have been around for many thousands of years and acupuncture and have been partners since the beginning of the therapy - thousands of years, in fact.

Thankfully there are a great many couples that can stand and testify to the difference that acupuncture made to their lives. For these people, for one reason or the other, the traditional methods of treatment for infertility have proved unsuccessful.

You are right to think that many western medical professionals treat acupuncture for infertility with a degree of scepticism and using acupuncture for fertility is often the final straw for couples that have explored every other traditional avenue.

Can Acupuncture Really Make You More Fertile?

A person who is fit and healthy and has a personal sense of well-being and is in a good state of mind is more likely to be fertile than a person who is feeling poorly, sick and depressed. Worrying over ones fertility can make you even less fertile.

Not as such, but it does help you achieve an optimum state of health and wellbeing.

Most conventional doctors would agree that this is advisable to give you and your partner the best chance of conceiving.

Essentially, acupuncture therapy is simply the use of tiny, fine needles inserted into the skin at points on the body know as "meridian points". The amazing fact of this treatment is that it brings about a high level of relaxation. It is the perfect de-stressor and is able to bring about a deep sense of relaxation - perfect for raising the level of ones fertility.

Is Acupuncture the Final Solution to Infertility?

The therapy has long been a source of help to many couple but there is no single be-all-and-end-all solution to infertility. Yet many women decide to have acupuncture treatments as well as conventional fertility treatments. They seek to optimise their chances of falling pregnant and to assist their natural fertility in the best way they can.

The whole belief behind acupuncture is that the body is full of energy - called chi - which causes problems if it does not flow correctly. The acupuncturist finds those points, which are causing stress and disharmony, and treats them with the needles to restore the body's natural balance.

However, as with many alternative therapies; there is no exact, scientific data to prove its worth but many desperate women, definitive proof isn't necessary. <bio>Peter Wellington writes for http://www.acupunctureaid.com, a website providing a comprehensive archive of free information and guides on the ancient art of Chinese Acupuncture... </bio>

Acupuncture is a highly effective quit smoking method for all, and specially for those people who had been unsuccessful with other methods to stop smoking. People who go for acupuncture treatments are usually keen on quit smoking beliefs. Although they have failed with all previous programs, this 3500 years old Chinese remedy promises quick relief from chronic smoking habits.

Acupuncture works most effectively on human body to reduce chronic smoking habits

Acupuncture is based on the belief that "chi", a vital energy force flows through 12 key channels around the body. Within these channels, there are at least 365 acupuncture points, which can sometimes get blocked preventing the smooth flow of vital energy, thereby leading to chronic habits. Acupuncture for stop quit smoking does not involve any "magic" acupuncture points. At least five needles are taken and inserted into the ear [particularly in the cartilage and not in the ear canal] and a few on the hands and wrists. With the needles pricked to your skin, you are left to relax for 30 to 45 minutes. These pricked needles provide significant effect on lessening cravings for smoking.

Treatments involved in acupuncture

To become a non-smoker, you have to follow a series of sessions. These sessions also focus on physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms occurring in the patient during the acupuncture treatments. While the needle-pricking treatments are going on you are also advised to undergo treatments with herbs. You can apply a mixture of oil of cloves and wintergreen, extracts of evodia fruits and Sichuan lovage rhizomes in the acupuncture points to get faster stop smoking results.

Other advantages of acupuncture - tips on stopping smoking

Acupuncture tips on stopping smoking not only relieve you from permanent smoking cessation but also works advantageous for you. After the acupuncture series is over, even cigarettes taste foul. It takes a nasty burnt taste and you can thus proudly redefine yourself as a "non-smoker". Acupuncture therapy for stop smoking also reduces side effects of nicotine withdrawals like depression, cravings and anxiety. While the body actually improves in blood circulation and de-congesting the lungs, you also start feeling truly optimistic.

Acupuncture is a definite method that helps you to quit smoking miraculously within a few days. They differ slightly because acupuncture makes use of thin needles in approaching health concerns while acupressure never breaks the skin. On the other hand, they do a have a few things in common. For instance, both are centered on touching meridians which carry energy or chi along those meridians right through an individuals' body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clearly states that illness occurs due to the blockage of chi in any of fourteen different meridians. Acupressure and acupuncture both advocate the free flow of energy without obstructions. Both methods are used to treat arthritis, allergies, migraine headaches, depression, menstrual cramps, nausea and anxieties.

Because acupuncture uses very thin, long needles to puncture the skin it should be performed by an experienced practitioner who is skilled in traditional Chinese medicine. Acupressure is much less technical; it can therefore be learned from a book and may even be; in some instances, performed on oneself. Somewhat surprisingly, acupressure was practiced long before acupuncture became known.

In addition, since acupuncture requires the skilled use of a tool (needles) it requires much greater accuracy in order to bring quick relief whereas acupressure is less precise since the only tool is the practitioners finger. Due to the release of toxins or through realignment of muscle groups, in some instances acupuncture can result in some short term, minor side effects.

Acupressure and acupuncture thus have different effects on the patient with acupressure having fewer side effects. This may be somewhat akin to deep tissue massages where there is also less chance of unforeseen side effects to the patient.

Acupressure and acupuncture are known as Zhen Jiu and Zhi Ya respectively. They are probably the best known of all traditional Chinese methods used in treating health imbalances. Acupuncture is now a very popular alternative therapy for arthritis pain relief and acupressure makes use of the same points while using the fingers to manipulate the meridian points.

By pressing down firmly with the thumb or finger on the groove that lies between the two large tendons running from the base of the palm up to the elbow, acupressure is often used to provide relief for those who are suffering from nausea. Acupuncture can also achieve the same results through the use of needles. Both methods have a long history of success and neither is better than the other, it's simply a matter of opinion as to which method is best. <bio>Visit http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com or http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com/links.html or http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com/sitemap1.html for more information on acupuncture and Chinese medicine. </bio>

Part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is a healing method developed over the past 2000 plus years in China and the Far East. Popular culture portrays acupuncture as pain therapy administered by practitioners using thin needles placed in specific points (i.e. acupoints) of the body. All in all this is a fair portrayal, although the patient in these portrayals is usually shown to be a bit different and quirky and not deserving the fruits of the ancient practice. Although so-called andquot;modernandquot; medicine has been slow to accept the ancient practice it has become increasingly more andquot;openandquot; because it's becoming more and more difficult to dismiss the successes of treatments on conditions like depression.

The specific origin of acupuncture has been lost in the mists of time. One might logically conclude that acupuncture has survived because it works and that the successful aspects of acupressure and bloodletting slowly developed over the centuries into a separate discipline, fueled by the confidence of the patient in this so-called mysterious practice. Unlike Western science, the discoveries and studies of TCM practitioners were never documented and shared with the public at large. Rather, theories and practices were passed down from master to apprentice in secret. Nobody knows for sure, but it's possible that successful techniques were compiled around the beliefs of the Eastern cultures.

Acupuncture treatment depends on precise placement of fine needles in andquot;acupointsandquot; drawn by centuries of practitioners. Points are found along lines of andquot;chiandquot; or energy from major organs that run along the back and limbs of the human body. As with Feng Shui, the idea is to allow the chi to flow unimpeded while balancing yin and yang. Needles are mostly placed along the right side of the body to correct the flow of chi when treating depression with acupuncture.

A study done in Tucson divided women with mild depression into three groups. The first group was treated with the recommended therapy for acupuncture and depression. The second group was treated using acupuncture therapy normally used for other conditions and the third group; the control group was simply put on a waiting list.

The first two groups were told they received the traditional acupuncture and depression treatment. The finding showed the first group had as much improvement as if they had received medication. The other two groups fared less well but had a little improvement.

The Cochrane Group, a scientific group that is looking for evidence concerning acupuncture, looked into this study for the effectiveness of acupuncture and depression and decided that the results were not convincing enough to receive their seal of approval. Of course, the conclusions of the Cochrane Group must be taken with a grain of salt because it's filled with people who hold a bias against traditional Chinese medicine and unless the results were so overwhelming they couldn't discount them they would look for any reason they could to discount the results.

While science will continue to study the so-called efficacy of acupuncture and depression, the bottom line is that acupuncture has been used successfully on a wide range of health conditions for thousands of years. The proof is in the many anecdotal stories told by happy patients.

Tip - For options in finding the best lender for you, check out the links below. <bio>Visit http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com or http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com/links.html or http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com/sitemap1.html for more information on acupuncture and Chinese medicine. </bio>

Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese method of using tiny needles to stimulate specific areas or "meridians" of the body and to rebalance the body's energy, or chi. Because acupuncture is especially effective for chronic conditions, many pregnant women are turning to acupuncture to provide drug-free relief from many of the unpleasant symptoms of pregnancy.

An Australian study showed that women who received acupuncture treatments regularly before their 14th week of pregnancy had less nausea and shorter bouts of morning sickness than women who did not receive the treatment. Acupuncture has also been used to treat the more serious condition hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes serious vomiting that persists throughout pregnancy.

During the second trimester, acupuncture has been used to successfully treat heartburn and hemorrhoids. In the third trimester, acupuncture can provide relief from sciatica, joint pain and carpal tunnel syndrome, which many women develop late in pregnancy. Acupuncture has even been used to relieve pain during labor and delivery.

Pregnant women seeking to use acupuncture to treat conditions developed during pregnancy should be sure to visit a licensed and experienced acupuncturist. For example, although acupuncture can be used to treat edema, or swelling of the ankles, edema can be an indicator of a serious problem. An acupuncturist experienced in treating pregnant women would be more likely to recognize this problem and refer the patient back to her obstetrician.

The most serious risk of using acupuncture during pregnancy is that it may stimulate labor if it is improperly applied. Choosing an experienced practitioner reduces this risk to almost negligible levels. In fact, many women have turned to acupuncture to purposefully stimulate labor when their baby is overdue. Some women have found that labor induced by acupuncture is gentler than labor induced by drugs such as Pitocin.

In addition to benefits during pregnancy, labor and delivery, acupuncture has been used to promote fertility and to treat infertility. In a small German study, women who used acupuncture in conjunction with in vitro fertilization had a 42.5% success rate compared to 26.3% in women who used in vitro fertilization alone. Fertility specialists attribute this to the overall improvement of health that comes from receiving regular acupuncture treatments.

Finally, acupuncture may have some benefits in treating post-partum depression. Although no research has been done to support the efficacy of acupuncture treatments on post-partum depression, anecdotal evidence shows that some women do benefit from its use. Because acupuncture does not cause harmful drug interactions, it can be a useful complimentary therapy. <bio>Jonathon Hardcastle writes articles for http://4alternativehealthinfo.com/ - In addition, Jonathon also writes articles for http://thenursingcenter.com/ and http://letsdropsomeweight.com/ </bio>

Acupuncture is another alternative treatment, like cupping therapy, which has been effectively used to provide some fibromyalgia patients relief from painful symptoms. However, unlike cupping therapy that has been adapted from traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is traditional Chinese medicine.

What is acupuncture? Acupuncture has existed for more than three thousand years and originated in China. It is an ancient Chinese practice that has been used throughout time for treating painful symptoms that occur from a variety of health ailments. Its purpose is to improve the overall functioning of the body by restoring balance to the body's natural life force known as "chi".

Chi flows through 14 meridians (unseen channels within the body), and each meridian is connected to various trigger points (known as acupoints) throughout the body. Thus, everything is interconnected, which means when specific acupoints related to the health problem are stimulated, this helps to bring balance to the body as a whole.

How is it performed? Acupuncture is a treatment that involves inserting short, solid hair-thin needles into specific acupoints on the body. There are numerous acupoints located all over the body. The ones that are focused on during a session are related to the health problem suffered by the patient.

Usually, before an acupuncture session begins, the acupuncture therapist with ask a fibromyalgia sufferer specific question related to the symptoms they experience, and if there are any other treatments they are currently using. The therapist will then check the pulse and the texture and color of the tongue in order to determine which acupoints should be targeted. A therapist may target as many as 15 acupoints in one session.

Once the acupoints are decided, the needles will then be inserted. The insertion of the needles is not and should not be a painful experience. Many people describe it as a slight pinch or a dull ache or tingling feeling in the affected area. Needles are usually left in the body for 20 minutes.

After the session, some people find they are totally relaxed, their limbs feel heavy, or that they are energized. However, bear in mind that everyone responds differently to treatment.

Are there any side effects? Some individuals experience side effects such as fainting, fatigue, headache and nausea, but this is extremely rare and usually only occurs in those suffering from complications, and when treatment is performed by someone who is not qualified. However, it's a good idea to talk to you doctor about acupuncture treatment before perusing it.

How does acupuncture benefit fibromyalgia? Medical studies have found that acupuncture is quite successful at relieving fibromyalgia symptoms for up to one month after treatment. The symptoms it effectively relieves include:

• Decreases and relieves pain • Reduces feelings of depression • Increases energy and reduces fatigue

It is believed that acupuncture needles help to increase blood flow in fibromyalgia sufferers, and the increase in circulation helps decrease the number of sensitive points and improve overall muscle health. It is also believed by Western medicine that the reason acupuncture is so successful at reducing and relieving pain is because it increases the level of endorphins (natural painkillers in the body) and may block pain impulses to the brain.

How can you find an acupuncture therapist? Ask your...

• Health care provider • Physical therapist • Neurologist • Hospital • Fibromyalgia support group

You can also do an online search using the keywords "acupuncture" or "acupuncture therapy" and your city name.

Make sure you receive acupuncture therapy form a qualified and experienced acupuncture therapist. If a therapist does not have a license find out their educational background and how long they have been practicing acupuncture. It also doesn't hurt to ask for referrals. Remember, acupuncture can be painful, cause bleeding, organ puncture, and lead to side effects if not performed correctly. <bio>By Jane Thompson.
Are you severely or mildly depressed and wondering about acupuncture and depression? According to research and case studies, acupuncture is effective in treating depression. But, did you know that there is a way to treat the depression without the needles? More on that later.

It appears that the most effective treatment for depression is medication. After all it works. I've used medication for both depression and anxiety and have had phenomenal success in both cases. However, I prefer to use natural remedies whenever possible because medications do have side effects and also introduce toxic elements into the body.

So what about acupuncture and depression? The good news is there is some scientific research that supports the effectiveness of acupuncture in decreasing the severity of depression in patients. Remember that medical research doesn't really 'prove' anything, it just supports claims. It is really hard to conclusively prove claims.

Anyway, this study was conducted by the National Institute of Health in 1998. I will not bore you with the design of the study. You can look up the study and read that for yourself. I'll just share the results it found on acupuncture and depression. In this controlled experiment, all the participants that received acupuncture for depression collectively experienced a 43% reduction in their depression symptoms, which was 21% greater than the dummy control group. This suggests that the acupuncture did something for the depression symptoms.

Theory on acupuncture and depression is this. Acupuncture states that there are energy pathways in the body called meridians. Various illnesses occur when these meridians become blocked. The acupuncturist attempts to unblock the clogged up meridians by inserting needles into certain points along these meridians. When the energy is allowed to flow again, the symptoms of the illness subside. And so it is with acupuncture and depression.

If you don't like needles but are interested in the possibilities of acupuncture and depression, there is a form of acupressure that has been found to be equally successful. No needles here. It merely involves correctly tapping certain points on special meridians with your finger tips. The best thing about this approach is you can do it yourself. You don't need to pay a professional to do it for you. Although, that option does exist.

In any event, there is a lot of promise for acupuncture and depression. With the help of a qualified psychologist you can get your symptoms under control. <bio>Rich has put together several informative tips on acupuncture and health in the form of an email newsletter.
Standard acupuncture charts can be purchased that aid in identifying the name and locations of the meridian and acupoints on the front and back of the human body. An acupuncture chart will accurately show the location of the14 primary meridians as well as some of the extra points. Most acupuncture charts also show the names and locations of meridian and acupoints on lateral sides of the human body. Normally, they also have the international standard nomenclature and alphanumeric codes.

Some acupuncture charts come in sets that may be further divided into smaller sets that show the acupoints on the whole body surface (i.e. the back, neck, front, back and lateral sides of the human body, as well as the trunk of the body and other parts of the anatomy contained in different layers). There are also charts that show the upper limbs. Other acupuncture charts will show the entire human anatomy while others simply show regions of the human anatomy.

The acupuncture chart first became prevalent during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) when the Chinese first printed vernacular literature in great numbers. However, over the ensuing hundreds of years they have become increasingly well known. Acupuncture charts appeared in manuals dealing with Chinese medicine and the purpose was both to instruct and identify the proper location of the acupoints. In addition to the reasons just given acupuncture charts were maintained for Chinese medicine which included reflexology, moxibution, massage and a number of other specialties.

Illustrations Aid in Understanding

Acupuncture charts don't explain how to needle the body but rather are diagrams that show the path of channels or meridian conduits as well as the location of acupuncture points. Because there are a great deal of acupuncture points, the acupuncture charts can only display a fraction of the channels and acupuncture points which are being discussed in the text of the chart. As a result, many acupuncture charts correspond with the specific body part, body function or disorder that needs to be treated.

A few common acupuncture charts are for the ear, foot, head and stomach. Other charts also describe healing methods of hot and cold diseases as well as other ailments.

The bottom line with acupuncture charts is that their primary function is to serve as a visual enhancement to the text and they are not intended to stand alone.

Tip - For more information on Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, check out the links below. <bio>Visit http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com or http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com/links.html or http://www.acupuncture-gateway.com/sitemap1.html for more information on acupuncture and Chinese medicine. </bio>

Acupuncture is part of the oriental medicine healing system that has been in practice for over 2000 years. Developed in the Chinese, the practice of acupuncture is based on the belief that a interference in the energy flow in the body can cause energy imbalances, which is considered to be the root cause of most of the ailments suffered by human beings. These blockages can be cleared and the energy flow of the body can be stimulated by the insertion of tiny needles into specific acupoints of the body. There are over 2000 different acupuncture insertion points on the human body and the disease determines which insertion points should be used. Acupuncture is now used all over the world to treat a variety of conditions, such as bronchitis, gingivitis, sinusitis, myopia, infertility and Meniere's disease.

How Does Acupuncture Help Infertility?

The use of acupuncture to cure infertility is a comparatively new concept for western countries. The theory behind acupuncture for infertility is that acupuncture will increase the amount of blood flow to the sexual organs and readjust the hormones present in the body. This practice is confirmed to be effective by increasing ovarian effectiveness in women and assisting in sperm creation for men.

Using acupuncture for infertility treatment is most commonly used when a couple is having functional issues, such as infrequent ovulation or erectile dysfunction. In some scenarios, acupuncture is used as additional procedure for in vitro fertilization, helping women to relax their uteruses during the embryo transfer process. A study conducted in 2002 by German researchers found that acupuncture increased the success rate of in vitro fertilization by up to 16% and reduced the amount of miscarriages in women receiving in vitro fertilization by 12%.

What's It Like To Go Through an Acupuncture Treatment?

Acupuncture is a rather painless procedure and side effects are very uncommon. The most common negative events reported include the transmission of infectious agents, minor bleeding at the insertion point and needles broken beneath the skin. These risks will be greatly reduced if the acupuncturist is a licensed and accomplished professional that has gone through the required 2000 to 3000 hours of training and has passed the required board exam.

Acupuncture for infertility treatment can be a long-winded process. On average, acupuncture therapy requires 12 individual sessions, each about an hour in length and occurring weekly. During this hour long appointment, a physical test will be given and any complications or issues that have arisen since the last appointment will be discussed.

Using acupuncture to treat infertility is quickly gaining acceptance in the USA. Although whether the procedure is useful is intensely argued among researchers, the fact of the matter is that it seems to work and it certainly doesn't hurt to try. For couples who have been trying to conceive a child without success, using acupuncture therapy to aid in infertility treatment may give them the breakthrough they need to finally have a baby. <bio>Please visit http://www.pregnancy101.net for more tips on conception, breastfeeding, fertility and birth issues.
As you age, you start collecting tons of little aches and pains you didn't have when you were younger. Are you wondering just how bad it's going to be when your reach, say, seventy-five or so? Backaches and neck pain are especially common; my mother is continually complaining that her back hurts. Given my luck, I'll probably have the same types of aches and pains when I reach her age. In any event, I've decided to be proactive and find ways around having a backache for the rest of my life.

I know there are perfectly good treatments out there and I'm ready to go for it and get some relief. How about you? Do you suffer from joint pain, hip or lower back pain? If so, are you ready to do something to be pain-free forever? Think about what types of treatments or therapies available to you that may help rid your body of pain from this moment on.

The first step is to find a reasonably-priced and effective low back pain or joint treatment. How exactly do you accomplish this? If back pain seems to be the biggest problem you have, consider seeking the advice of a chiropractor. If you don't have one already, getting set up with one is a good idea. As you age, aches and pains are inevitable so you may as well be proactive about it.

Chiropractors are specialists in bones and joints and they understand how the body works, especially the skeleton, including the spine, and the ligaments and muscles. I know a chiropractor who treats both young and old for back and neck pain. He says that many of us wake up with pains in the back and neck and that most of the problem has to do with our poor postures, the type of bed you sleep on, your pillow and the type of shoes you wear.

These are things you can easily fix and if they don't work, you can see the chiropractor to treat your pain. In some cases, however, it's not a matter of a simple ache or pain. Some people, however, suffer from serious injuries and need more intensive treatment like surgery and medications.

Acupuncture is a type of back pain therapy that is really gaining in popularity lately. A form of treatment originating in China, acupuncture involves the insertion of needles in various parts of the body in order to heal pain and cure disease. Backaches and other muscular pains respond very well to acupuncture, when done properly.

While this is a type of therapy used for many conditions, back, neck and muscular pain are conditions that are particularly suitable for acupuncture. If you're interested in finding someone who does acupuncture near you or who treats back pain in your area, go on the Internet and do a search for acupuncture or low back pain. Do your homework to find the right treatment for you. You don't have to suffer forever with pain your whole life. <bio>Read more from Joe Goertz at: http://www.myhealth-magazine.com </bio>

Acupuncture is becoming one of the more popular alternative and complimentary therapies used by IBS sufferers to help alleviate symptoms. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine that is designed to restore health by improving and bringing balance to qi - the body's natural energy flow. Acupuncture works to restore the proper function of organs, muscles, glands, nerves and vessels.

How can acupuncture improve IBS symptoms? Acupuncture is recognized as being an effective therapy for treating the following conditions which are often symptoms of IBS:

• Muscle cramps • Abdominal pain • Constipation • Diarrhea

In addition, acupuncture effectively reduces stress and other negative issues that often cause IBS symptoms to occur. Some of these include:

• Nervousness • Anxiety • Insomnia • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) • Menstrual cramps

As was previously mentioned, acupuncture is based on improving and brining balance to qi that flows through all of the 14 unseen channels in the body known as meridians. A person with IBS usually has a deficiency of qi in the spleen, lung, liver, kidney and large intestine meridians, so these are the areas that will likely be targeted during an acupuncture session. That being said, you need to understand that each person is treated differently depending on where their discomfort is located.

In order to help improve the qi flow within the targeted meridians, tiny, solid, disposable needles are individually inserted into specific acupoints within the body. How deep the needles are inserted depends on the thickness of the muscle. Acupoints (trigger points), are precise points of the body where the meridians surface has deeply penetrated into the tissues and organs.

The insertion of the needle is usually painless and is a sensation often described as a mosquito bite. Most people only feel a slight achy or numbing feeling in the targeted area.

After the needle has been inserted, they may be twirled or connected to an electrical current to help stimulate the targeted meridian. Needles may be left in between 20 -- 60 minutes. All sensations that are experienced during an acupuncture session disappear with the removal of the needles.

Aside from acupuncture needles, another popular technique that acupuncturists use for IBS is moxibustion. This is a method in which mugwort herb is burned over precise acupoints. Moxibustion is used because it is believed to penetrate deeper into the body than the needles.

Although Chinese medicine believes that acupuncture is successful at relieving symptoms due to reestablishing balance to qi, Western medicine believe that acupuncture treatment causes inflammation in the body, which causes it to release natural pain killing hormones - endorphins. Despite what the actual truth may be, it is clear that for many IBS sufferers, acupuncture has provided them relief from abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, constipation and diarrhea.

Acupuncture is a safe alternative treatment for most people, but you should discuss acupuncture treatment with your doctor first before engaging in the therapy. You should also know that it often takes several acupuncture sessions before a person begins to feel relief from their symptoms. Finally, make sure you seek treatment from a qualified and experienced acupuncturist. <bio>If you are looking for more information on http://natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/blog/2006/12/28/changing-seasons-of-ibs/ please visit http://www.natural-irritable-bowel-syndrome-relief.com/ </bio>

Quite amazingly the whole body and can be treated by applying pressure to acupuncture points in the ear.

The basis for this strange notion is the concept of the inverted foetus, and idea developed by Dr. Nogier about the acupuncture map of the ear. Due to the development of his thoughts and studies auricular acupuncture made its debut.

Ameliorates The Pain And Illness

Quite simply acupuncture points in the ear are shown to be able to reduce pain throughout the body by a reticular formulation through the parasympathetic nervous system.

Chinese acupuncture has long been used as the treatment for various conditions and diseases such as addiction, psychological disorders such as depression, pain control, obesity and a wide range of other chronic conditions.

Ear acupuncture, also known as auricular acupuncture, relies on the traditional approach to Chinese acupuncture. The ideas and principles behind the use of acupuncture points in the ear stretches way back in time yet the ideas are extremely applicable to modern acupuncture.

When an acupuncturist inserts needles into acupuncture points in the ear endorphins are released throughout the body. These chemicals and hormones produce a feel good factor and a sense of well being to the patient. Basically auricular acupuncture is extremely good for treating certain conditions.

There are approximately just over 200 acupuncture points in the ear and each of these points has its own name. And expert acupuncturist will know all of these points. The locations of these points will be well known to him. These acupuncture points in the ear are all related to different parts of the body.

When acupuncture needles inserted into these points a electrical impulses begin their passage towards the brain and then on to the relevant area of the patient's body. In this sense you can see that the ear operates something like a telephone switchboard. You stimulate one point in the ear and quite amazingly another part of the body is also stimulated.

So you needn't be surprised when you visit your acupuncturist complaining about pain in the ankle that he begins to insert acupuncture needles into acupuncture points in the ear. You will be pleasantly surprised when the pain in the ankle begins to subside even though that area has not been directly treated.

Surprisingly the ear lobe itself has its own particular set of acupuncture points that are stimulated in order to treat parts of the head, strode, tonsils, sinuses, throat and many other parts of the anatomy. Then concha of the ear is also used to treat major organs throughout the body in particular: lungs, heart, liver and other organs.

It is well known by the professionals and experts that the ear and the associated acupuncture points in the ear are perhaps the most potent acupuncture points in the body. In fact it is estimated that the chances of success are as high as 95% for successful treatment. In this means that acupuncture points in the ear are most worthy of mention. <bio>Peter Wellington writes for http://www.acupunctureaid.com, a website providing a comprehensive archive of free information and guides on the ancient art of Chinese Acupuncture... </bio>

Many people are familiar with the physical act of acupuncture, the act of inserting needles into the skin for the purpose of relaxation and natural healing. Acupuncture goes much further than needles in the skin. The Chinese used acupuncture to re-align one's Chi, which is an energy of universal life that is believed to flow through all people. When the Chi is blocked and unable to flow freely, health is affected. Now, researchers are investigating the role of acupuncture for migraine reduction and treatment. Read below for more on how acupuncture for migraine reduction works.

The Studies

Two publications have published studies with strong conclusions on the effectiveness of acupuncture for migraine relief. The Journal of the American Medical Association, or JAMA, published "Acupuncture for Patients with Migraine." In this study, scientists used 302 patients, most of them women who suffered from migraine headaches. Patients were administered acupuncture, sham acupuncture and a waiting list control. Researchers concluded that sham acupuncture was no less effective than regular acupuncture, though both had much more of an effect on migraines than did the wait list control.

Another study, published by Blackwell Synergy, one hundred sixty women were run through a controlled study examining the effects of acupuncture for migraines versus flunarizine for migraines. Group A was administered acupuncture weekly for 2 months and then once monthly for 4 months. Flunarizine was given to the patients every day for two months and then twenty days out of the month for four months. The conclusion was profound: acupuncture won the contest for the most effective treatment out of the two.

Getting Past The Fear

The first thing to look for when seeking out a professional acupuncturist is to make sure that the acupuncturist is licensed and certified, depending on the state in which you live. Most acupuncturists will walk you through their sterilizing procedures, and most use disposable needles. If you cannot get past the fear of acupuncture needles, the acupuncturist will probably provide alternatives for you. These include herbal methods, magnetic needles and ear cups that can be taken for similar results.

When you go to the acupuncturist, be sure you know what you are seeking treatment for, and have as much medical information as possible. This will help the acupuncturist decide what acupuncture for migraine techniques are right for you. <bio>Lee Dobbins writes for http://www.herbs-home-remedies.com where you can learn about more alternative methods for treating ailments. </bio>

If you are tired of trying all the treatments for your back pain and are still unable to find any relief in either of them, then you have surely wasted your precious time and money.

Ever heard of Acupuncture? Yes! Acupuncture is the answer to all your back pain worries. More and more people now a days are depending upon the alternative treatments for curing back pain. Even various physicians and health care professionals are advising their patients to take benefits from the acupuncture treatment and get relief from back pain.

Acupuncture has been used since thousands of year to cure and treat various diseases and disorders. There are many success stories related to treatment of back pain with acupuncture. Since it does not employ the use of any external medication, many people find it an easy and affordable mean of cure.

The treatment of acupuncture runs on a simple theory. We have two thousand energy points on our body. These points are connected with the twenty pathways or the meridians. Wherein, conduction of the chi or qi life forces take place. If any one of the pathways are blocked, back pain comes into play.

Acupuncture treatment involves the clearing of the above mentioned path for the proper conduction of the life forces. The process of acupuncture involves the insertion of anywhere between one to twenty needles into the human body. The number of the needles to be inserted depends on the age, sex and magnitude of pain to the patient.

Besides this, there are different ways of inserting the needles in the body. Some of them are made to rest on the skin surface, while the others are inserted into the skin. The depth of the needles range from one inch to several inches. These needles are then left stationary for about thirty minutes. The needles may be sometimes rotated, depending upon the type of treatment. This is done to free the energy that is blocked in the body. At certain times, the needles, before inserting are warmed or charged electrically to facilitate the process properly.

Apart from this, some acupuncturist also use the method of moxibustion (heat therapy). It is a process in which small amounts of herbs are burnt at the need of the needles to be inserted. These herbs help in encouraging the negative energyb to go away from the body. <bio>The author writes about a number of different topics.
Having the ability to treat suffering individuals for chronic illness or simply relieving them from stress with the proper touch of your hands is a gift that few posses. However, acupuncture is one such healing method that with proper training, anyone can learn to relieve others from pain and suffering.

Acupuncture - What Is It China is the birthplace of acupuncture as well as many of the natural healing methods available today. Acupuncture is believed to have been practiced for more than 2000 years and in the past, was taught predominantly through observation. No wide-spread structured classes were taught because it was believed that only a privileged few were worthy enough to hold the knowledge behind the healing powers of acupuncture.

Acupuncture works through stimulation and/or relaxation of the nerves in order to obtain the desired results. The nerves are stimulated through the use of extremely long fine, yet strong needle, when in the right hands works wonders at stimulating the body to attack any disease and to heal itself.

Modern Acupuncture Due to the fact that acupuncture has shown that it can heal both chronic and superficial disease, interest has continued to grow not only in being treated by those suffering from illness and pain but in getting trained as an acupuncturist. As a result, many schools have been founded where acupuncture is being both practiced and taught. These acupuncturist schools will train you to become a therapist and so you can start healing people.

In addition to acupuncturist schools many acupuncture clinics have established classes for wannabe therapists.
