The Embarrassing-but-true Story Of How I Got Into Article Marketing

The truth is, I stumbled on this thing called article marketing. And I continue it out of necessity more than anything else. Here's why:

There's another Lisa Sparks out there and she also has a substantial presence on the Internet. One day I was waiting to hear back from a potential client. This lady was big time and would've put lots of money in my pockets.

Lost the Client But Gained New Skills

When she called she had some interesting questions such as, “What else are you into other than copywriting?” Yikes! I knew then something wasn't quite right.

She Googled me (she typed my first and last name into the Google search engine) and found “the other Lisa Sparks.” The other Lisa stars in films you wouldn't want your kids to see (you might not want to see them either, I don't know) and so any association with her was pretty dangerous for me.

Alas, I didn't get the gig with the client and I learned a valuable lesson – dominate the Google search for my name.

I did that through article marketing. Now, if you Google “Lisa Sparks” I have the top two positions and the other film star Lisa has been relegated to the bottom of the search page. Woo hoo!

And it all came through sending out content-rich articles on a regular basis.

Here are a few things I've done to win in the article marketing game:

1. Create articles on a regular basis.

I do my best to put 10 articles onto article directories each month. You may want to start out with just four per month, which translates into one per week. But get started immediately. It will bring an instant surge of traffic to your business.

2. Write easy-to-read articles.

If you make your articles appear short and concise, more people will read them. You can do that by adding numbered lists like this one, or bulleted lists. You can also use subheadings, bold typeface and underlining to accomplish this.

3. Distribute articles to key article directories.

Get your article out where it can be seen by sending it to directories such as EzineArticles.com and/or iSnare.com. Both have worked well for me and my clients. I suggest you try them and watch your article bring in quality links back to your Web site.

Note: I have to continue submitting articles on a regular basis to keep my Web sites at the top of the search engine results for my name. I suggest you do the same if you don't want to be mistaken for someone else, lose lucrative contracts and sully your image.
