How to Win Science Projects
Are you struggling to find that right idea for your Science Fair Project? I know that I struggled and came up with some lame experiment at the last minute that failed. The failure was good because I learned early in my life that by waiting for the last minute and inadequately preparing for the project, the projects would ultimately fail. I decided that the next project I worked on I wasn’t going to fail.
Preparation and planning is your key to success for a winning Science Project. The first step is finding a project which excites you. Quickly make a list of five subjects in science that you like. The list should be general subjects such as Physics, Biology or Chemistry.
Now rank the list from your favorite subject to least favorite. Usually your favorite subject is where you have achieved academic excellence in. For your Science Project, you should start at the subject that you have ranked second or third.
The reason for this is simple. You want to make this project a learning experience which will excite you more than if you chose a project that you are familiar with.
The growth and insight you gain by working on an unfamiliar project will impress the judges and become one of the key factors of a successful wining Science Project.
Now that you’ve narrowed the list down to one or two subjects, you need to research what projects to work on. The best list of projects that I’ve run across is from Paula D. Jones. Her book, 45 Easy Step By Step Science Fair Projects for Grade 4 to 9, gives you the plan for implementing your project.
Of course you may not like one of her projects outlined in her book and decide to use your own novel experiment; however, her book provides a basic plan of attack for wining your next Science Project.
