Empowering Entertainment Through Online Videos

I hope that you are not suffering from a painful case of "slow Internet connection." Because that would be the only reason to not revel in the fun filled world of online videos.

The amazing thing about online videos is the way they have managed to convert the standard from long film to video bytes, often no longer than a few seconds. That is what the world of entertainment has become: sound bytes, flash videos, and instant gratification.

Previously the concept of an entertainment video was symbolic of extensive infrastructure and large production houses. Even those kinds of videos have made their way through the buzzing cyber-wires. But, I am most excited about two others kinds of development.

The first one is the fact that most online videos, driven by short durations, tend to communicate a single message or purpose. So, you know exactly what to expect. And when you get it, you know you got it. This is akin to the bite-sized, some would call it fun-sized candy bar.

Then there is the other bit about not just using the Internet to disseminate video content, but actual create video content. Sure, the Internet does not create videos, but it sure seems to encourage their production. So, now, everyone is a producer. And while they are at it, a director, an actor, a scriptwriter, a screenplay writer, and a voice over artist.

Despite the fear of an incurable dumbing down of videos, I am heartened to see that online videos are actually turning out to be quite good. It is refreshing to see the take of these new digital creators. In fact, online videos have become the eyes of the world with enthusiasts rapidly shooting everything that needs to be shot.

I think that we are in for a version 2.0 like phase in the lifecycle of online videos. In addition to production qualities getting slicker, I think we are also in for a more meaningful discourse coming through. This will probably be aided by the fact that many erstwhile free video-sharing sites might actually end up paying video producers.

If that happens, there will be a fresh new lease of life to producers and the flow could be so strong that what we have now would seem like a trickle.

If you are not fully acquainted with all that I am talking about, all you need to do is to access some of the top entertainment sites. Most of them will have online videos that you can watch for free. If the site actually makes editorial decisions in choosing the videos to display, the quality of videos would shoot up.

My personal favorites tend to be funny videos, especially of the blooper kind. I don't know what is wrong with me, but there is some exceptional pleasure in watching people accidentally make a fool of themselves! Sorry, I know that is kind of mean, but hey, it is funny, what can I say?
